Another senseless tragedy, and they appear to be happening with an alarming frequency.
At the very least, we probably need people to start going through metal detectors when they go almost everywhere.

On the street, I guess you are on your own.
Good luck!

They say that the gunman liked to post on political message boards.
I immediately thought of this place, has anyone in particular been missing for a few days?
Someone that tends to be very angry most of the time?

Last week was international terrorism as was the one in Garland. You have to take them out of the mix. That doesn't mean these things aren't really bad but is a police state really the answer?

And lives in Alabama?
He was from Alabama that cuts down the list a lot.

Marini -> RE: 'Trainwreck' shooting in Louisiana (7/24/2015 8:08:05 PM)

Well you are from Alabama aren't you?

There are more and more cases of this every week, and I am not going to believe that it is my imagination.
Can you name all the random mass shootings that have taken place this year?

Washington Post--204 Mass Shootings in 2015!

According to the Washington Post there have been 204 mass shootings === and 204 days , in 2015 so far.

WHAT THE FUCK???

I think their numbers need to be checked.
They must be counting every gang shootout in Chicago.
They may also have lowered the standard as I pointed out earlier wouldn't have counted as a mass shooting because they cut it off at 4 dead. This let them claim that ccw holders didn't stop them, when they step in the number of deaths drops dramatically, often to just the shooter.

Marini -> RE: 'Trainwreck' shooting in Louisiana (7/24/2015 8:59:28 PM)

There are many, many people all over the world that are not happy with many issues going on in the world.

If/when economies decline, or situations become more desperate, I don't think many of the citizenry these days are going to go quietly into the night.

I believe this person was living in a motel, and appears to have been in dire straits.

I wonder what growing numbers of disillusioned and desperate people will do?
He was a very, very, angry, violent and unstable man/with access to guns.
There is a lot to be said about non-violent protesters.

I looked it up.
The source was an anti-gun group that I never heard of before.
got their figures by people posting on a message board did admit to lowering the threshold for what amounted to a mass shooting. Someone like Joe could have doubled the number over night.
The only article I found on it also admitted that there have been 34 incidents with multiple deaths, and claim that only one involved a Muslim. I guess they don't count Garland since only the Muslim terrorists were killed.

Yes, this raises some question about his posts.
They were on his computer but if he was so bad off it may have been a second had or stolen computer. We know he got his weapon illegally.
On the other hand if things were so rough for him how did he afford a motel?
And he still had the home his wife lives in.
I would always prefer non-violent protesters to violent ones and crazies.
But the situation you described is not one where decent people should be disarmed.
History has proven that when the heavy hand of government steps in to deal with desperate people the situation escalates rapidly.

WHAT THE FUCK???

Calling these "mass shootings" is an abuse of language. If you held a protest in Times Square and only half a dozen people turned up, the headlines would not be shouting "Mass Protest in Times Square!" Moreover, most of the "mass shootings" that make splashy national news that gets cycled for days are only remarkable because the shooter was white. In Chicago alone there have been 227 people shot and killed to date, and an additional 1,285 wounded. But 65.6% of the killers were black, and another 18.8% hispanic. National news coverage? Zip.

So yeah, what the fuck?

K.

I admit maybe the Post exaggerated a bit.
But, isn't almost everything these days over-exaggerated or under-exaggerated?

I have NEVER said taking everyone's guns away was the answer.
I would hate to think only cops and criminals had guns.
{we aren't going to talk about the fine line between SOME cops and the criminals}
So what the fuckety fuck, K.

Sorry, I see were it could have easily sounded like that was directed toward you, it was meant as a general comment concerning several of out posters. I do not recall you making a statement like that.
Yes some cops are criminals, they need to be dealt with harshly and you are right, if I understood you, that doesn't mean that cops in general should be condemned.
It looks like the Post took a crowd sourced site, didn't research and took it as a legitimate source.
The 34 sounds more plausible and I would still like to see what they are counting since they don't include Garland.

I know of a few more cases where the only person killed was the shooter because someone there had a firearm. These are harder to keep track of as the press doesn't cover them as much, they don't fit the narrative.

Oh hey, I know that. You're okay with me. I was just pointing out a peculiar racial bias in the reporting and hand-wringing that cycles every hour for a week on cable news after one of these shootings, when they are such a small part of the larger picture of violence in America. It's almost as if nobody in the media really believes that non-whites can be expected to behave like civilized human beings.

How did he get the gun?

Illegally!

Even Joe knows that but that answer doesn't advance his agenda.

I believe it was yesterday I saw on a news feed (I think it was Yahoo) a headline stating something like "Louisiana Shooting Suspect Obtained Gun Legally". I tried to find that particular heading again and couldn't find it, so I entered "Louisiana shooting suspect got gun legally" into the Yahoo search engine and got multiple listings from various sources that he obtained the gun LEGALLY at a pawn shop in 2014. Here is the link to the search results: https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=Louisiana+shoot+suspect+got+gun+legally&ei=UTF-8&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-004 Most all of those link results were posted yesterday, so MAYBE there has been new information since then. However, I then did a search for "Louisiana shooting suspect got gun illegally" and got these results: https://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Louisiana+shooting+suspect+got+gun+illegally&fr=ymyy-t-999&fr2=p%3Amy%2Cm%3Asb where not any of the results had anything at all about the Louisiana shooting. (at least not on the first page. I didn't search any further than that due to time.) So, by the results I found it is your agenda that isn't being advanced. If you have links to information stating the gun was actually illegally obtained I'd be happy to take a look at it.

He had been involuntarily committed, that would disqualify him. You know that anytime something like this happens a bunch of people claim that the gun was obtained legally only to turn out later that it wasn't. With the information we have he couldn't get it legally.

MercTech -> RE: 'Trainwreck' shooting in Louisiana (7/24/2015 10:29:14 PM)

If the reports are right that the shooter had been court ordered to mental treatment' he would not be qualified to purchase a firearm. If he had a peace bond out for domestic violence; he could not legally purchase a firearm. If he had a felony conviction; he could not legally purchase a firearm.

Now, the charges that Huffpo described as an "extensive criminal history in Georgia) were all traffic citations and one misdemeanor charge of "theft" for taking down political signs of a candidate that he opposed. None of those are felonies which would have disqualified him from purchasing a firearm.

Either A> The reporting of court ordered mental treatment and criminal history are in error. B> The FBI has screwed up their background check again and allowed someone to purchase a firearm when they were disqualified, or C> There is a pawnbroker that is being audited by the ATF and will probably be prosecuted.
