When Gary and I met he was a spry 64 and I was 54. We made like bunnies for several years. Then the medical problems associated with transplants started to make themselves known. The drugs that are keeping him alive are slowly killing him. We don't make like bunnies anymore, but the desire is still there. We still have our times. We're getting too old to do many things we used to do. Needle play is now out as his hands shake way too much. Suturing is out. He doesn't have the energy for flogging very often or for very long. However, he still can make me blush by just looking at me in a certain way or saying certain words. Heck he made me blush telling me what he's going to do to me today. Does this all bother us? No, not really. We enjoy what we can do and don't worry about those things we can't do any longer. It's all a part of life. Today I got him out of the nursing facility and brought him home. He broke his hip 2 weeks ago. Complications kept him in the hospital and nursing facility way too long, but he's home now. It's not as easy to take care of him as it used to be for me. I have my own health issues, but we make due. Together we can do anything. The important part of all this is that he's home. He's not living in a nursing facility. He's home where he's happy, where I'm happy to have him. I have someone to cuddle with at night. This dying shit sucks. More than a few times I've sat beside his bed, knowing that he wouldn't make it through another night. He's like the Energizer bunny. He keeps going, and going, and going. So far it's not been his time. Gary is 74 now. When he got his single lung transplant the docs gave him 3-5 years. The average lifespan of a single lung transplant is 4.6 years. He's at 14 years, 1 month. I met him on his 4 year transplant anniversary. He told me he had a year to go and did I want to spend it with him. It's been 10 years now. Wow. Yep, we're getting too old. The good part is that we are enjoying getting older.

We are stardust, we are golden, and we got to get ourselves back to the garden. Yes, I am crazy about feathered creatures. I have a dozen chickens, 3 ducks, 5 geese, and 2 parakeets. Revise that number. Just got 14 new chicks and 5 turkeys.
