Status: offline 		First post here. :) I'm an extremely huge bookworm and always on the lookout for new books/authors. I normally stick to the creepy/horror/paranormal genre, true crime, or anything pertaining to law, but now I'm trying to broaden my horizons and seek new things. So below, if you will, name your top 3 favorite books and your top 3 favorite authors so I can check them out on Goodreads and add things to my ever growing bookshelves. Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Status: offline 		Oh goodness favorites... I wouldnt know.... but ill mention "the metamorphosis of prime intellect" scifi but some horrorish elements and bdsm elements, plus it's a free online book so it will be easy to explore another genre.

Dog boy, my favorite based on true story type

And the current author at the head of my mind raymond feist. His first trilogy isnt the best but the second, the empire trilogy was my favorite.its in order so it might be a little confusing to skip but they give a synopsis of prior books at the beginning. This is fantasy set in a world like feudal japan with a lot of plotting and customs and the growth of a female ruler. You get to watch her grow and evolve into a capable leader.


There was also some really funny sci-fi about a guy who could turn into a unicorn but cant for the life of me remember the title haha I tend to forget what ive read since I don't look at the title page long ;)

I know the problem of sticking to one genre too long. One of my exes had just about every scifi book ever made. Every time he found a book he didnt have, add to the collection, the whole house was wall to wall books... so I read a looot of scifi. Really burned out on it after a while. The ones I chose are because I think they are good transitional pieces. Everything I like is going to be pretty quirky, weird or outright unsettling. But theres no hard scifi or anything there so its not something thats a drastic jump. I like the depth of character portrayals above all else... though the first listed is more a shock piece... but those should give a bit of range.

Anything by Gillian Flynn
Jessica Cornwell - The Serpent Papers (author is the Granddaughter of John le Carré)
Anything by Dan Brown

Status: offline 		RS makes a good point with Isaac but I also recommend Anne McCaffrey (RIP)(she has several series dealing with the Talents and Dragons of Pern). If you are wanting 'trashy' romance (as Mom calls them) I go for Bertrice Small (RIP). If you really want vampires with a high sexual content, I go for the Black Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward (her Angel series is just as highly sexual as well). Anything by Philippa Geoffrey since she does a good job pertaining to the War of the Roses and the Tudors. Any fiction from White Wolf publishing (mainly from Vampire the Masquerade rpg line, not just the core books but the actual fiction series like the Blood Curse series and the 13 book clan series)

For the classics, I go for Poe and H P Lovecraft. There is also Sherlock Holmes (I got the leatherbound books on Ebay from Barnes and Noble for about 25 dollars each). There is also Stephen King, some horror and some mystery there (great for mind twists).

If you can't tell I am an avid reader as well...

SDFemDom4cuck, I've read every book so far Gillian Flynn has came out with because I love the writing style and the twists. The only book I've read by Dan Brown is The Lost Symbol and I added a lot more to my Goodreads because I had no idea he was the author of The Da Vinci Code, Inferno, or Angels and Demons. Thank you! :)

ResidentSadist always up for new books, no matter the genre! Time Enough For Love sounds really fantastic, as well as all the others. I added those to my Goodreads as well, except for The Mote in God's Eye. Thank you so much for the suggestions.

And finally, ShaharThorne. :) I checked out all of them and I really think I'll enjoy the Black Brotherhood series. I really, really have a think for sexy vampires for some unknown reason for me. Even the poorly written ones! I also really adore H P Lovecraft because my dad used to read them and I'd see them lying around and he wouldn't let me read them until I got older, so of course it piqued my interested because who doesn't want to look/read something they're forbidden to read? No one! Lol. I've read about ever Stephen King and Richard Bachman book I've been able to get my hands on. That's what covers over three-fourths of my bookshelves at home currently. I have a collected works of Poe at home as well that I enjoy. I started reading him in 10th grade of high school and became a fanatic for a little while there. Sherlock is a favorite of mine too. Books/movies/the British TV show...

Status: offline 		^ FYI, Time Enough For Love is mandatory reading material in my house. It has a lot of really good life philosophy behind the plots and it's just a damn good read.

I'm not sure if Truman Capote's In Cold Blood counts as "true crime" exactly, but it's a fascinating book, beautifully written.

I just watched
"highlander" and have just ordered her four books. I will probably have read all nine before season two comes out.

PG Wodehouse writes fluffy, silly stuff. My favorite is The Code of the Woosters.

I like mystery stories. John McDonald's Travis McGee series was wonderful. James Lee Burke does the same thing, but writes much better. Gregory McDonald's offbeat Fletch series is simple fun. Tony Hillerman's mysteries have a strong Navajo flavor to them.

Donald Westlake wrote some hilarious things, especially the Dortmunder capers.

Status: offline 		Everville:) I have most of his books up to Abarat2. and Ive got the books of blood that came with me from the UK...Im a big reader but for sheer pleasure I tend to re read favourites a lot.
Robert MaCammon is decent too, his Swan song is another favourite.

Status: offline 		I hadn't heard of Clive Barker until just now, where have I been? Imajica sounds wonderful, and it's decently long which I love. Michael Slade's Special X series sounds really good too. I'm so happy I'm finding all of these new books to read. And they're such a long series!
