"I don't think women help themselves at time because even today they continue to be led down a path by men. Put yourself forward as consumed by shoes, hair and the rest of it; then yeah you'll be seen as dolls lacking a decent set of brain cells.'

huh. Really? I've got long, bohemian, hippie, gray-streaked hair, glasses, shoes which are super comfortable like sneakers and flip flops, and clothes I've owned for years or bought from a local thrift store (you'd be surprised at the quality one can get).
So, the brain cells are quite the healthy bunch nourished by the reading of several newspapers daily as well as non-fiction books.

OK, occasionally I spare a few brain cells for science fiction. Not proud.

There is a lot of truth to this...

Once upon a time, women were expected to not read certain books because their minds couldn't cope with them - the general consensus in that age.

True, although a lot of books were forbidden for men to read as well. But I would still say that women who could read would have still been better off than men who were deprived the opportunity to learn how to read. I'd find it difficult to fathom that the Queen of England should be considered worse off than a lowly male coal miner.

PeonForHer -> RE: Votes For Women (8/29/2015 7:22:14 PM)

I just don't get you, Nick. Millions of men didn't die in two world wars because of politically correct feminists at the helms of the warring nations. It wasn't 'feminazis' or the 'politically correct brigade' who pushed men into working their guts out till they dropped. The culture that led to men being estranged from their children in their lives, disconnected from their feelings and so 'hard' that they frequently snapped, started centuries before anyone had ever heard of feminism, much less political correctness. In the same way it wasn't feminists or PC types that led to the worldwide phenomenon of a tiny number of people at the top exploiting the mass of the people under them. You cannot, surely, be proposing that all those baddies of the past - the rulers, and that male-dominated elite - have been swept away, by the present day, and replaced by feminists and their supporters? That's so unlikely it's barely worth considering.

Whenever you turn up here you seem hell-bent on getting men to fight for their rights in the wrong way and against the wrong enemy. Don't you sometimes think that you could be literally worse than useless for the cause that you claim to espouse?

epiphiny43 -> RE: Votes For Women (8/29/2015 8:03:37 PM)

What Peon said.
Oppression doesn't have to be malevolent or conscious to exist. It's implicit in many Romance languages with gender for most nouns and assumptions about those separations. Culture of both genders can be as oppressive as a conscious program by one over the other. Every one making a fuss about little girls appearance and ignoring their curiosity and intellectual needs stunts vital development and is at least as common among other females as by men. Lower grade girls outperform males in all math areas. Not long after, social and even teacher expectations have them falling behind and disliking math in most cases.
My favorite illustration of the difference in how males oppress culturally is the observation by feminists that misogynist haters cite the inequality of dating culture as a gripe. Their response is: "Men fear laughter and ridicule dating women. Women fear rape and murder dating men." Too many men see no inequality there.
The current issues of educated female MDs in Pakistan marrying in overwhelming numbers instead of entering the profession is due to a family based culture, enforced as much by female relatives as by men. 3/4ths of new MDs are female, a big majority never enter a practice. The theory on the medical school imbalance is women study 'better' to qualify for entry, and in med school, as they have restricted social opportunities in a basically misogynist society. Male med students socialize too much and their grades sag. So much for the Chatty Girl stereo type?
Extremists on every issue are blind to how oppression of any reduces us all. Freedom in real terms has to be for all or the effects resonate badly through all the society.
Gaining wealth and having to spend much of it for armed protection for your children isn't that special. The US is headed to where many Latin American cities are. Ask any industrialist in Lima. I know one who left for just that reason, the .45 under his pillow got tiresome to sleep on.

Nick, your obsession with this never wavers. I can only guess that something terrible once happened to you at the hands of a woman. You should seek help because this obsessional behaviour is unhealthy.

Another good one by Janice Fiamengo.

This can go back to history too as people are only interested in one side of the story when it comes to history.

You create such a target rich environment. How else do you expect those you offend to react?

OMFG... are you serious? making (really bad) generalizations like that? so men are consumed by sex, sports, booze and gambling.. so where are men's brain cells then? yeah, I know, in their dicks!..

well, contrary to the generalization previously made about women, I have no interest in buying shoes or doing hair stuff... in fact, i cut my own hair.. I have long hair with bangs so just a little trim (snip, snip) of the bangs when they get too long and once in a while i pull the rest together and cut an inch off the bottom.. easy peasy and its practical/cheap.. I also rarely wear make-up.. if i tried to, the Houston heat would melt it off quickly anyway.. and for practical reasons, I like just casual clothes..

I know not all men's brain cells are in their dicks.. gawd knows my ex didnt have any there.. [:D]

thompsonx -> RE: Votes For Women (9/7/2015 1:22:13 PM)

People, both men and women, will obsess over all manner of things. For some it is wine or coffee others it may be shoes or a car. Those who wish to denigrate others will focus on these issues. I never had you pegged for make-up or "tall shoes"

Pardon me but there is no direct connection between grammatical gender and natural (and this is a "Binsenweisheit", as the Grimms called it some centuries ago). And it is also not limited to Romance language but a common feature of about all Indo-European languaes - even English has it, though obstructed and reduced ... or why should a river be a "She" ...?

A good example is the pair sun-moon: sun male moon female in Latin (and from Latin down to post-Latin languages), sun female, moon male in German(ic languages)

so have fun making your assumptions

MercTech -> RE: Votes For Women (9/8/2015 3:30:09 PM)

Mother nature is a practical joker.
Yep, she gave men a brain and a penis but only enough blood supply to run one at a time.

Oppression has never been a gender issue, it's always been a class issue.

There is a lot of truth to this, although not all feminists are of the bourgeois, corporate variety. There are a few who seemingly support a more proletarian style of feminism, although they don't seem to get as much limelight as the more obnoxious ones.

If this is Nick, then I do have to ask: Could you at least post a few lines of summary with these videos? It's just easier to cut to the chase and get to the main points that way.

I need the bourgeois proletarian capitalist running dog take on all this.

Does anyone have the Cliff Notes? or Enya singing Madonna's take on Britney Spears (old Britney) POV?

I'm not sure if they even have a take, although they would probably say "let the market decide." I was only pointing out to the OP that not all branches of feminism can be lumped into the same category.
