Sounds more and more like the EPA and its divisions are knee jerk organizations.

Sounds more like you did not research what is being talked about. Nor understanding the many things within this issue.

Let's start with the basics and move upward.

1 ) The honey bee population (I'm not even going to look up the Latin definition here) has been in decline for over a decade if not more. No one is really sure what is the cause of this decline, although there is some fierce debates on about a half dozen concepts. That it is taking more time to analyze the exact problem and any solutions is a frustration within the industry and scientific community. There is even a $1 million reward for anyone that can show verifiable evidence of why the population is declining.

2 ) The EPA made an approval of sulfoxaflor. According to Wikipedia: "Sulfoxaflor is a systemic insecticide which acts as an insect neurotoxin. It is a member of a subclass of the neonicotinoids which act on the central nervous system of insects with much lower toxicity to mammals." If your not understanding that, its a chemical compound.

3 ) The industry brought suit against the EPA back in 2013 stating the compund created problems for bees rather than being administered to fight other insects. The issue is moving through the court system now.

This is where it gets curious if not even more scientifically complicated. Try to follow along....

4 ) The EPA released a fifty-one page Response to Public Comments. You can either accept what I'm telling you is true, or have fun reading the PDF file! The EPA made one demand on the chemical compound: that it not be used beyond a limited exposure. Even then, not for planets to which bees are more likely to pollinate. This means the chemical can not be used "....within three days of blood, peak bloom, or petal fall (which I'm guessing is the industry jargon for 'the whithering phase of the plant's life cycle'). Further that this chemical can only be used in the early mornings or late evenings when honey bees are not usually 'out and about' (yeah, there is a psychology to bees...). The toxiticity of the chemical expires after three days (several sites point this one out when I was researching it).

So 'yes', I understand your desire to attack the EPA. However, quite a few sites stated that this chemical compound was tested over a lengthy period of time. I can also understand the bee industry wishing to protect its bottom line, since as mention before; no one is sure why the population is in decline. Rather than just blindly attack the EPA. How about sitting down and doing the research? You might learn some fascinating stuff about the honey bee!

This seems to make it extremely difficult to use. Perhaps we can use it on Mars?

No, I don't have anything relevant to add. What gave it away?

And the judge found that they didn't do a good enough job. Did I miss anything?

No It should be fixed.

Out of all the forums available, you picked this one to ask for help with your profile? What exactly do you think EPA stands for anyway?

Back to the OP....

I agree they do seem to have a lot of "oops' moments. And that wouldn't be so bad if they were not controlling areas that have such potential for damage. As much as I don't like bees in general, I am smart enough to know we would be screwed without them. You would think that being in that field they would also think about that but they really don't seem to.

How is the EPA to regulate a specific chemical compound that is used by individual users far away from inspections?

The only way to do that is to create a penalty so harash that it would easily be contested in court and destroyed. That is what stops the EPA from creating such a standard. That and all the political lobbying powers from the GOP/TP.....

by properly authorizing, meaning do their investigative/research job, chemicals. Then they can go after people and companies that fail to comply.

I think that bot agencies are screwed and require fixing. Not sure how to do that but it needs to be done.

That is all fine and good. However it takes funding to perform this task well. A concept that the GOP/TP have been constantly trying to undermine for two decades now! Further, when the EPA "...go after people...." the GOP/TP and their supporters do anything and everything to undermine the total effort. From 'stupid shit' in the courts, to running 24/7 misinformation in the media, and attacking anyone whom sides with the EPA.

More scientists whom are given latitude to operate. Better enforcement when things are found outside the law's requirements. Less lobbyists from industries most likely to cause problems being allowed to form laws and regulations in the first place! There exists a major political party that fights both government groups (i.e. the EPA and FDA) in any manner possible. From helping lobbyist to supply misinformation media systems to dumb Americans down from the facts.

Look at Climate Change. Many Americans think its a conspiracy and hoax; even though their smartphones operate on the same concepts found in Climate Change (i.e. they both follow the 2nd law of thermodynamics). That there are tens of millions of Americans so completely uninformed to the facts and evidence, should show how well the GOP/TP misinformation machine is doing in the nation on Americans! The one person whose state is the most effected by Climate Change (i.e. Sarah Palin in Alaska) is totally against the scientific evidence, known!

And because you and others of your mindset say it's real, it is...right?

Hate to tell you, Joether but...as has already been discussed on lots of other threads...it's a THEORY. Not a proven state of being.
