And guys like Obama and Sanders who will do anything they can to take money from those who have worked hard to earn it and give it to those who don't want to do anything to improve their lives.

was there anything "klinger" at the stadium?

It was the 80s ('84, I believe) and I was in a band, at the time, but we were doing a gig in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and I screamed and bitched at the rest of the band after having seen a billboard advertisement for the team that I couldn't be that close to Toledo and not go to a Mud Hen's game.

So, yes it was a home game. I don't remember if there was a lot of Jamie Farr/Klinger stuff but I do remember a couple of posters (taken from the show, if I remember, correctly) of Farr/Klinger wearing his Mud Hen's game jersey.

I remember the Mud Hen's lost to the team they were playing and the fans were pretty rowdy about it. I remember it being reminiscent of a football game in Philadelphia.

The Eisenhower Interstate System goes back to a time when un-funded mandates were de rigueur. I'm sure the idea seemed like a good one, at the time but it left the states holding the bag for federal fuck-ups (and their mistakes, as well).

The with-holding funds until states raised the drinking age: I have some memory of that as I was due to turn 18 on 30 AUG, '82 and the state (New Jersey) raised the age to 19 on 01 AUG, '82 and to 21 on 01 JAN, '83. How could either of those have been under Carter's appointee?

Actually, the working man's wages have been stagnant for 30 years while explosive income gains have accrued to the 1 percent and .01 percent -- who pay the lowest tax rate of anyone. When you can get around by private jet, helicopter, or limosine --- you may not really care too much about the roadways, unless your fortune is in trucking or car sales.

The overall infrastructure in the USA now grades out at about D or C-.

“When we’re talking about infrastructure, we never compute the cost of inaction,” said former Pennsylvania governor Edward G. Rendell, who now heads a coalition that promotes investment in infrastructure. “The cost of inaction is greater than the cost of doing something. It’s become this literally crazed idea that spending money is bad. Federal governments and state governments have to spend money on certain things that are important.”

Positive it was Upper Sandusky, and not just Sandusky? Were you close to Cedar Point? If not, it was Upper. lol If you were close to CP, it was Sandusky. I think Upper is 45-60 minutes from Toledo, and Sandusky is about 60-75 minutes from Toledo. I grew up in the Sandusky area, and heard it called "Upper Sandusky" A LOT.

Road Hazard: How the ‘Embarrassing’ Gas Tax Impasse Explains Washington

The main federal fund for roads and bridges runs at a deep deficit. If even red states can raise the gas tax, why can't Congress?

servantforuse -> RE: Our Roadways (9/17/2015 3:01:55 PM)

Maybe your guy Obama and the democrats who were in control of both the house and senate should have fixed this problem.

Just who are we talking about here?

The term average has a meaning. All the average people have average jobs. Not everyone is a bill gates who will lie cheat and steal to "improve" themselves. Not everyone is an arthur davis (genius)who changed the aluminum industry. Most people want to live thier life and enjoy their families. How does one do that on a minimum wage job? Some will say that minimum wage was meant for entry level youngsters just getting out of the house. The reality is in front of you when you go to a restaurant...how old are the service staff? Hotel...how old are the custodial staff?Retail stores ...how old are the clerks. The articulate one with the big ears is different than forty or so of his predicessors in what way? they all take from the poor and give to the rich. You said you worked for the utiilty co. and made a good wage with a retirement package. That a union forced your employer to compensate you at the level you achieved is hardly through your efforts. Not everyone just happens to be at the right place at the right time.

Have you ever heard the old saw that goes: "If you can remember the 80s, you probably weren't really there"?

You are probably correct. I believe we were playing a civic arena (if that helps).

The travel distance/time doesn't help a lot because with the guys bitching at me in the bus, it seemed like it was an eternity, anyway LOL! They knew they couldn't just trust me to go on my own, back then and get back to where I was supposed to be, on time. So we all went.

Ok, like to a table of gasoline taxes.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_taxes_in_the_United_States

The last time the federal gasoline tax was raised; it was during the administration of Bush Sr. Mister "read my lips: NO NEW TAXES" increased the taxes and pissed off most of the country.
Whenever transportation costs are raised; it inflates the price of everything.

There is no real need for a gas tax increase. What needs to happen is congress stop using federal highway money as a deep dipping source of pork barrel funding for their crony constituents.

Maintaining infrastructure is not something that gives a politician a big name. Why fund keeping things working when you can build a stadium or theater that is used once a week at best or provide a sinecure for wealthy insurance companies.

Sounds like San Diego. We made the Top 20 list for worst road conditions in American (#8) and yet they're trying to build a new stadium to keep the Chargers from going to Carson (Los Angeles)

Well, that doesn't help. I don't know if Upper has a civic arena, but Sandusky sure doesn't. lol

Maybe it was Sandusky, Michigan? lol That's hours away from Toledo, though.

They easily could have. Unfortunately the Republican/Tea Party did anything and everything to undermine every concept at all stages of development from idea, to bill, into law. Maybe if you look closer and objectively, you would understand this. Then we can test your level of honesty and bravery in stating the facts. How about it?
