Some do, some don't.

A thousand times better. I could care less about physical bondage, to tell you the truth.
Using bondage restraints is simply a means to an end, for my sub's benefit during play.

To me, physical bondage means next to nothing.
This might be due to my not getting into "forced"/CNC scenarios.
My erotic high is derived from mental Domination and not from BDSM activities for the most part.

No offense to others and what they enjoy doing, but. . . anything in the physical, other than to evoke sensual and sensuous sensations, I consider to be a subordinate mechanism or inferior methodology.

I'd need more information on how you define "mental bondage" to answer the question.

If you mean "the creation of a D/s dynamic in which the s-type is mentally bonded to the D-type in such a way that it becomes hard for the s-type to even imagine disobedience" then yeah, mental bondage kicks ass over physical bondage any day of the week.

If you mean "an order to hold still, instead of the use of physical restraints" then not at all. Physical retains rock. I am, and always will be, a total gear slut. In fact, my husband says that I'm a gay Leatherman in a woman's body, precisely because gay Leathermen then to be heavier into latex/leather/full-body-restraints/hoods/etc than your average hetrosexual kinkster.

I don't. Give me rope any day.

Depends, really. I prefer the mindless animal and the physical restraints that go along with keeping a thoughtless beast from biting the hand which feeds it.

The smell of blood is heady. I want to inhale it deep into my marrow so that it fuels me.

When reality is a swirling chaotic war monger and still is required.. then I can find more peace in mental bondage.

Brain-washing or something more along the lines of conditioning ... that's another animal all together and one with which I am overly familiar.

For clarification purposes, your post reminded me that there are some who get into the brainwashing, erotic hypno, subliminal mental Domination aspect of things.

None of that has ever appealed to me. I believe in having a full conscious awareness of one's actions and to venture forward willingly into whatever landscape one chooses of one's own volition.
Otherwise, you can end up with an ethical crisis along the lines of the oft-heard "Mistress Made Me Do It" syndrome.

This isn't to say that there aren't Dominants who prey upon the gullibility of submissives, particularly newbies, or who don't take unfair advantage of them because we hear about far too many of these unfortunate situations.

On the other hand, having the *perfect* excuse to backpedal and to not take personal responsibility for oneself by blaming the Dominant party, is anathema (to my way of thinking).

Besides, I don't have any need to brainwash or hypnotize, to resort to manipulation tactics or to induce a sub by applying pressure or by making unreasonable demands, to get him to do what I want or to behave in the manner I wish for him to behave towards me. [;)] He either goes into our D/s dynamic full force with eyes wide open - based upon our matching priorities, interests and desires - or he isn't welcome to becoming a (significant) part of my life.

I'm the opposite. I couldn't care less.
