Status: offline 		In my opinion, many beers are served ice cold because the cold hides the various issues mass produced beers often have.
America does have some fine micro craft beers.

As for horses, there are plenty of them near Houston.

And You might like venturing into Austin.

well, thats not part of Houston.. it is part of Harris County & north of Houston.. there is a (peak time) bus that runs from The Woodlands directly to downtown Houston that many office workers take..

hurmph... If I want something warm I will drink tea.. when you are hot (like after slinging straw bales all day in the sun), cold beer isnt for the taste, its to cool you off and quench an unquenchable thirst.. and no, cold orange juice or other cold drink doesnt do it..

I suppose a lot depends on what you call "beer".

I've not been to Houston (only went around NC and a big lump of FL) and I have to say I couldn't find a decent beer.
Most of what the US call 'beer' I would call pissy lager - just like most of the European continental 'beers'.
The nearest I got to one was Amber Bock in Jax and that was only just palatable.... chilled.
Even the British imported beer isn't the same. It seems to be butchered to cater for the American taste. YUK!!

To be fair, it's reputation is improving over here. There are usually a few American beers on show at any one of our beer festivals. 20 years back, it would have been unheard of.

To be fair, it's reputation is improving over here. There are usually a few American beers on show at any one of our beer festivals. 20 years back, it would have been unheard of.

There's been a few showing up in the Kent CAMRA gatherings but I still wouldn't call them 'beers'.
There's also been an explosion of Belgian and German beers too - same sort of shit.

I can honestly say that in my worldly travels over the last couple of decades or so, nothing comes even remotely close to good British ale for colour, body, and flavour.
Maybe I'm getting a tad jaded in my old age but I'm not liking the foreign muck masquerading as 'beer'.

Ron, Cumbria is in the North West, mate.

Northumbria was the Roman county that then included Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham on the North East Coast.

The Normans conquered other parts of England but never the North East.

And, the Vikings only reached as far as the River Tees, so anything above, i.e. Durham, Sunderland and Newcastle, where I come from, are undefeated on home soil since 560 AD. Now that is some fucking record.

The great vowel shift that happened in the English language in the middle ages didn't affect us, so we still pronounce words like the Anglo-Saxons did as well as some Old Norse.

I've read and heard stuff along the lines that the septics speak English more like the way we used to speak it here. Not greatly relevant, but interesting all the same.

Status: offline 		Lone Star beer is just armadillo piss...stay away from it. I can't drink most alcohols anymore (an occasional winecooler, Amaretto or cheap Boone's Farm wine) due to medications.

Don't worry about the hat though. Nothing hurts by standing out in a crowd.

I didn't mean the American beers are poor, Peon, in fact their brewing has more in common with English light ales than it does continental Europe.

I think we agree that what you get in continental Europe isn't anything like approaching beer. Just gas, flavouring and colouring.

But, you go to any beer festival these days and there will be some American beers on show these days because it has a good reputation and travels well.

Gone are the days when Americans brewed alcohol like the continental Europeans.
