You don't say what you are talking about, but I would have to think it is about the psuedo Christians who beat the kid to death. They have no more in common with Christianity than Jim Jones or David Koresh.

Apologies. Brain fart on my part as I didn't make sure the link was there. It is now.

No problem.

Hey

whoever said this "... it is about the psuedo Christians who beat the kid to death. They have no more in common with Christianity than Jim Jones or David Koresh. "

well the problem is they likely disagree with you and think their brand of Christianity is spot on. Thank God huh that you can claim its your religous right to beat your kid to death, but that you will be convicted of murder at least in America

thompsonx -> RE: Religious freedom dammit. (10/14/2015 5:45:20 PM)

but I would have to think it is about the psuedo Christians...

Of course you "have" to.

bounty44 -> RE: Religious freedom dammit. (10/15/2015 8:04:05 AM)

and you somehow maybe think this is a clever insightful indictment on Christianity? as opposed to a peevish post of a rare and Christian-contradictory incident in the life of a cult?

Lucylastic -> RE: Religious freedom dammit. (10/15/2015 8:18:54 AM)

So when I accuse you of not being my kind of christian Im attacking you, AND religion, BUT a cult is fair game by "christians", because its not your kind of christian.
where is the cut off point?

Oh... so you're the dude who gets to decide what's a valid religious belief or not?

crazyml -> RE: Religious freedom dammit. (10/15/2015 8:41:58 AM)

While I can't speak for HW, this doesn't look like an indictment of Christianity, but it does speak to the point about religious freedom.

Do you think it's not ok for these people to beat a person to death in the name of their religios beliefs?

Or should they not be prevented from "exercising" their religious beliefs?

tweakabelle -> RE: Religious freedom dammit. (10/15/2015 9:09:19 AM)

The 'sin' the brothers were alleged to have committed hasn't been identified. So we don't know what their 'sin' was, or how serious it might or might not have been.

I hope that the 'sin' wasn't ordering a cake from a gay baker......

On a more serious level, obscure sects seem to get into trouble regularly. There are the well known incidents in the US. Here in Oz a few years, an extremist Xian sect was busted and turned out to be a haven of sexual exploitation of children. It seems that the introspective nature of sects and their tendency to isolate themselves both facilitate the crimes these sects committed.

On the basis of these cases, a case for some kind of oversight can be made. My own view is that if religions are going to enjoy tax free status, then they should be subject to some oversight to ensure their bona fides and overall compliance with the laws of the land.

So...to get them to confess to sins, they conducted sins as justification. I thought the Spanish Inquisition went out of style a few centuries ago? Seems this group of 'christians' didn't get the memo that they live in the United States. Well, now that they are in custody, they are learning quite quickly that their religious freedom does not include beating 'others down'. Hopefully this group goes to prison for a VERY LONG TIME.

Perhaps if the two miscreants had confessed up front there would have been no "beat down"? If I would have been one of them I would have immediately confessed to being one of the nailers on the original "pontius and his nail drivin' five". I would have followed up with taking responsibility for lot's wife and that salt thing. Of course I would have copped to being the primary cause of the great flood and of stealing nails from noah[:D]
