http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/another-republican-admits-benghazi-panel-political?cid=sm_fb_maddow

Congressional Republicans are no doubt looking forward to Hillary Clinton’s testimony next week before the GOP’s Benghazi Committee, but at this point, Republicans might just want to cancel – to prevent further GOP embarrassment.
In an interview with WIBX 950 in New York on Wednesday, moderate Republican Rep. Richard Hanna said House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy was speaking the truth when he said this month that the committee had successfully injured Clinton.

“Sometimes the biggest sin you can commit in D.C. is to tell the truth,” Hanna told the upstate New York radio station. “This may not be politically correct, but I think that there was a big part of this investigation that was designed to go after people and an individual, Hillary Clinton.”
ThinkProgress, which I believe was first to report the Republican congressman’s comments, posted an audio clip of Hanna’s on-air interview.

Brian Fallon, a spokesperson for the Clinton campaign, said in a written statement, “House Republicans aren’t even shy anymore about admitting that the Benghazi Committee is a partisan farce.”

That’s not just a throwaway line in a press release; it’s an accurate assessment. Consider the series of recent events:

* House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) publicly conceded that the committee’s work is an election scheme intended to undermine Hillary Clinton.

* A lifelong conservative Republican who worked for the committee has complained that the committee’s sole interest was in tearing down Hillary Clinton.

* Senior Republican officials acknowledged to the New York Times that GOP leaders directed the Benghazi committee to focus on Clinton’s email server management – instead of the deadly Benghazi attack – in order to “cause political problems” for the Democratic candidate.

* Rep. Richard Hanna (R-N.Y.) has now admitted that his party’s Benghazi panel was “designed” to target Clinton.

The Benghazi Committee isn’t investigating a scandal. The Benghazi Committee is the scandal.

There’s been some debate in recent weeks about whether congressional Democrats should continue to participate in such an obvious farce. It’s a worthwhile question that deserves an answer.

But it’s arguably just the start of a larger conversation. Given the circumstances, it’s not unreasonable to think there should be an independent investigation into the Republican’s Benghazi Committee itself in order to uncover why it was formed, why its redundant work was deemed necessary, how it spent millions of taxpayer dollars, why the probe has been dragged out for so long, and whether the panel violated ethics laws by using official resources for partisan political purposes.

Clinton’s testimony will no doubt receive a bright spotlight next week, but testimony from House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), and other GOP leaders would probably shed more light on the ongoing controversy.

Should there be an investigation into the investigation????

anyone who is fair minded and has been paying attention to the whole situation knows there are unanswered questions that have arisen totally because of the Hillary Clinton email scandal, as well as her blatant lying over the deaths of the workers there.

if she had been forthcoming, honest and integrity filled from the beginning, this conversation wouldn't even be occurring. the "server management" issue is part and parcel of the whole. and the enquiries/concerns pre-date Clinton's running for president.

as to the congressman's using the word "admit" here---as opposed to "this is my opinion." the former implies he is somehow "in the know," and theres absolutely no evidence of that other than "here's what I think"---which lands him rather squarely in the camp of "this is my opinion."

to blame the committee for seeking answers to questions they legitimately have, is to play the very type of partisan game liberals are accusing republicans of.

Anyone who is fair minded would impeach and throw the bastards out of the legislature, and charge them criminally.

"...anyone who is fair minded and has been paying attention to the whole situation knows..." this was done for political points NOT finding facts or evidence. This was a smear campaign from the begining, using tax payer money to help fund it. An now there are two people that have admitted to the crime. This is not just a breach of ethics, this is...VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW!

So where are all the Republicans and Tea Partiers clawing over each other to set up hearings and trials? To attack those LAW BREAKERS whom are using the system to hide behind (the arguments used by the GOP/TP on why Hillary was using her 5th amendment rights)? Where are all the conservatives at large, whom support and vote these people in to public office in demanding such hearings and trials?

"...anyone who is fair minded and has been paying attention to the whole situation knows...." they could drop a pin in that room and hear the sound of it hitting the floor from a thousand feet away.

Mrs. Clinton is allowed a 5th amendment right. Even if she was guilty or not of something, she has a 5th amendment right. She has come clean in stating she was using the same policy that was under the former George W. Bush administration. The policy, created by then, Secretary of State Collin Powell. There is evidence that Bush/Cheney deleted over 22 million emails. Where is all the outrage and fury over all this evidence?

"...anyone who is fair minded and has been paying attention to the whole situation knows..." conservatives do not hold the people they support and vote into power to even 1/1,000th the accountability and responsibility with power, that they blast President Obama and Democrats on an hourly basis.

Now, those same GOP/TP politicians are trying to worm their way out of wrong doing. To slink back into the shadows. The conservative media is doing its best to run interference and put people's viewpoints somewhere else.

Yet, people are not buying the bullshit. Your people...LIED. Your people....STOLE. Your people.....USED TAX DOLLARS ON A POLITICAL WITCH HUNT TO SCORE POINTS WITH THEIR BASE. Your people.....DONT HAVE ANYONE WHOM CAN STAND UP TO MRS. CLINTON IN A FAIR ELECTION. That might be why more Americans are more likely to side with Democrats in the next election. You and other conservatives tell us on these boards and into the mainstream America that you...HATE...and are.....AGAINST....corrupt politicians. Well, seems your party is full of them. And you keep voting them back into power.

Why should anyone take you seriously?

Negative campaigning and negativity are (1) and (2) in their playbook. Now, more than ever, I understand Gail Collins remark that "the only person Mitch McConnell hates worse than Barack Obama is Ted Cruz."

That gang of 40 "freedom" caucusers is killing the Republicans from the inside. Hillary looks like a white angel next to them.

They must have borrowed from Obama's and Bush's play books:

...Luckily for the republic, both parties love negative campaigns. According to the Wesleyan Media Project, in 2012 Barack Obama ran the most negative campaign in recent presidential history, with 58.5 percent of his broadcast and cable ads being judged negative. That eclipsed the previous leader, George W. Bush, who scored 55.4 percent negative. Academics and the occasional journalist may squeal in horror over the demise of campaign civility, but as Frank Rich wrote for New York magazine in 2012, negativity is in the great American political tradition.

Yes it explains that negative campaigns are any ad that MENTION an opponent, not ones that talk ABOUT the opponent.

That's semantic B.S., Lucy...you're better than that. But, just in case...

...As Mattes and Redlawsk explain, the standard political science definition for negativity in campaigns is “talking about the opponent.” The scholars at the Wesleyan Media Project who track, among other things, campaign negativity, likewise embrace this definition, stating that ads are negative if “they mentioned an opponent.”

What you say here for most, is not news or at least it shouldn't be but I am thinking Obama's campaign simply had much more material. I think this was especially true of the last against Romney. I saw a few of the dem's negative campaign ads but noticed that even then, didn't go as far as they could.

Yes....the standard is taking about the opponent.=negative ad.
Weslyans people count mentioning an opponent. Thats exactly who has claimed such high figures.
Now if i were obama, a standard for a negative ad woulbe " mitt romney is only running for the rich"
By your own link, the standard for weslyans is "mr romney and i met the press"
Big semantic difference

Patricia Smith, whose son, Sean was killed in the Benghazi attack stated Democratic presidential candidate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is “anti-mother” and Benghazi Select Committee Chairman Representative Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is “doing a good job” on Tuesday’s “America’s Newsroom” on the Fox News Channel.

Smith said, “Benghazi was her territory. She allowed it to happen. She did not give the security over there. Everything — this was her bailiwick. She was the State Department. Now, she caused all of this to happen, why shouldn’t she have to give an answer? I want to know what happened there. She promised me when the caskets came in in Washington, DC she promised me to my face that she would call and tell me what happened, because I don’t know exactly what happened. She has never called. Her office, not only has not called, but they gave out information that I was not to know anything because I am not a member of the immediate family…

She concluded, “Trey Gowdy told me that he’d give me answers once this thing is done. I’m waiting for those answers. I think he’s doing a good job. I think he’s trying to find answers. I think that Hillary and her department ought to stop sitting on the pot, and give answers to some of these things instead of saying, oh, it’s not my fault.”

Mr. Gowdy tried to push back on the mounting criticism of the committee for using the Benghazi attacks as a way to undermine Mrs. Clinton’s bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. Mr. Gowdy said the committee was focused on the Benghazi attacks, not Mrs. Clinton or her personal email account.

And he sharply criticized two members of his own party — the House majority leader, Kevin McCarthy of California, and Representative Richard Hanna of New York — for their recent statements that the committee had succeeded in its purpose of weakening Mrs. Clinton’s campaign.

“I have told my own Republican colleagues and friends: Shut up talking about things that you don’t know anything about,” Mr. Gowdy said. “And unless you’re on the committee, you have no idea what we have done, why we have done it and what new facts we have found.”

Trey Gowdy, the chair of the Select Committee on Benghazi, leveled a very serious charge against Hillary Clinton in an October 7 letter. Gowdy asserted that Hillary Clinton disclosed the name of CIA source in an email sent from her private server. Gowdy wrote that the information was “some of the most protected information in our intelligence community, the release of which could jeopardize not only national security but human lives.”

The Washington Examiner covered the story with this headline: “Clinton burns CIA Libya contact.”
This does not appear to be true.
A letter from Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the committee, reveals that the CIA reviewed the email in question and found that the information in question was not classified.
cummingsletter
Cummings said that Gowdy’s accusation was “irresponsible” and suggested he owes “an immediate apology” to Hillary Clinton.
In response, Gowdy acknowledged the CIA’s view but said that “the name of the alleged source was redacted from the material cleared for public release by someone in the Executive Branch.” Cummings explained that the name was redacted “not for classification reasons, but to protect the individual’s privacy and avoid bringing additional undue attention to this person.”
The dustup comes on the heels of a number of embarrassing revelations from the Benghazi committee. Republican Major Leader Kevin McCarthy bragged that the committee had successfully driven down Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers. Another Republican Congressman, Mark Hanna, said the committee was “designed to go after” Clinton.
Clinton is scheduled to testify in front of the committee this week.
