MrRodgers -> Finally, a repub (pres.) solution to our penal system (10/19/2015 9:58:24 AM)

Now I am sure that at least a few times in life, one catches themselves thinking..."why didn't I think of that ?"

Well former R-Gov. Jan Mickelson of Arkansas does have a unique idea. On his Mickelson in the Morning, leading Iowa radio program, he suggested in a conversation with Pres. candidate Mike Huckabee, that criminals be sold into slavery.

Now Huckabee, who was a Baptist pastor before entering politics, is no doubt familiar with the Exodus 22:3 passage to which Mickelson referred: “Anyone who steals must certainly make restitution, but if they have nothing, they must be sold to pay for their theft.”

Oh and immigration too: "This isn’t the first time Mickelson has endorsed reinstating slavery in the United States. In August, Mickelson argued that undocumented immigrants should “become property of the state,” who should “extort or exploit or indenture [their] labor.” After a caller pointed out that what he was describing is slavery, Mickelson responded, “Well, what’s wrong with slavery?”

Jails are a 'progressive pagan invention' ? There are those that will tell you Christianity is a pagan religion and not without some evidence. How about all of those investor-class inventions called for-profit prisons ?

Now this is some real forward thinking and just the ticket to get the repub nomination.

except for mickelson isn't really talking about slavery in the simplistic way the leftist author presents it.

(this from the same source of people who believe dylann roof was a right wing terrorist and that George W. bush wasn't president on sept 11)

both mickelson's question of “wouldn’t that be a better choice?”, and Huckabee's response of “well, it really would be” follow mickelson's statement of “We indenture them and they have to spend their time not sitting on their stump in a jail cell, they’re supposed to be working off the debt.”

"indenture" doesn't mean "selling criminals into slavery." its clear from the context, despite the reference to exodus, they are referring to a written agreement/contract, in this case enforced by law, where the criminal is beholden to the victim for compensation. very much like, I imagine, the garnishment of wages for certain crimes/penalties.

its laughable that anyone would think otherwise, or that Huckabee is advocating real slavery.

that said, does anyone actually think its a bad idea for criminals to have to pay back their victims?

and as for "for profit" prisons---is there something written in stone that says the government has to be the sole proprietor of prisons? on the whole, who does things better, the government or the private sector?

I cannot speak to prisons being a "pagan invention" but no, Christianity is not a pagan religion---that's an absolute contradiction of terms.

to the point, while there have been, and still are, pagan accoutrements/influences in the practice of Christianity, the whole of the faith is founded on the deity of Christ, and that remains, despite all else, its essence.

Yes he is comrade:
"undocumented immigrants should “become property of the state,” who should “extort or exploit or indenture [their] labor.”
How is that not slavery?

Perhaps you can show us the law that allows a garnishment of someones pay who served their time? Perhaps you can show us when someone was punished for failure to make restitution? Have you ever read the constitution?[8|]

its laughable that anyone would think otherwise, or that Huckabee is advocating real slavery.

undocumented immigrants should “become property of the state,” who should “extort or exploit or indenture [their] labor.”
"what's wrong with slavery"

What is laughable comrade is your inability to read.

on the whole, who does things better, the government or the private sector?

There are not a lot of private sector nasa. There are not a lot of private sector fire departments. There are not a lot of private sector air traffic control systems. There are not a lot of private sector utilities. Just what is it that the private sector can do better than the government?
