Seems the Dems support federal funding of sanctuary cities and Reps don't in the Senate.

1. I think defunding is a political move to force cities to follow federal law.
2. No matter which side you are on, is it right to allow criminals free access and movement to our cities/areas and thus our country even when they commit murder, rape and other such violent crime solely based upon their status of entry into the US without proper authorization?

ken im not entirely sure your question is a right one? im not aware that sanctuary cities are releasing violent offenders before ICE can pick them up, but I could be wrong on that.

one interesting aside though---as I was reading the post, and ive thought about this before---how whacked it seems for citizens/businesses/corporations/whoever to send their dollars to Washington and then Washington, after keeping oodles, sends some back.

my point being I think, in a smaller government world, the ability to "defund" a city shouldn't even be possible.

bounty44 -> RE: Defunding ‘Sanctuary Cities’ (10/20/2015 4:54:34 PM)

also, last I heard, "kate's law" was a part of this bill, so that went down also...

A person in San Francisco was murdered by an illegal under exactly those circumstances just about 3 months ago.

yes, the kate's law fellow---but was he a violent offender?

I think so, and it seems that ice wanted him on drug trafficing charges, so it was was a felony. He stole the gun from a law enforcement officer.

He had 4 drug felony convictions, and 3 more felony convictions but none of the articles I found told what the other 3 were for.

What is your plan comrade? What exactly would you cut?

KenDckey -> RE: Defunding ‘Sanctuary Cities’ (10/21/2015 11:27:46 AM)

By defunding, I think it would involve not releasing any funds from the federal government until they complied with federal mandates. That would include possibly grants, educational funding, infrastructure funding, etc.

mnottertail -> RE: Defunding ‘Sanctuary Cities’ (10/21/2015 11:33:48 AM)

Wow, so the nutsuckers ARE federalists, big government Nazi regime types that want to flush not only states-rights down the tube, but dictate in the individual cities as well. We are nutsuckers from the government, and we're here to help.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, been caught again!!!!

Not a good idea to do, KenKcky. The door can swing both ways. How about with a Democratic Congress issuing a bill forcing states and cities to place tighter firearm restrictions or lose federal dollars. Its cheap politics at its best. And it should....NEVER...take place.

While your thinking on that, let me ask you another one....

Is this nation Draconian in its pursuit of the law? Or a nation of laws, that concern with finding the best way to be free?

Yes, they broke a law and hoped a border. They have lived every day (if not every hour) in fear of being caught and deported. Most of them once crossing the border have not done anything illegal (except to find something to eat when they were hungry). Many have lived in this nation. They have paid taxes owed. They have tried to raise their family the best way they know how. Some can not speak English and afraid to learn because that might allow someone to 'find out'.

So while keeping this fear active, you would have this nation behave in a draconian set of measures to hurt all the rest of the people in that city/state who are here legally? Sorry, we can't help those poor veterans, because a group of assholes live in a fantasy that is NOT AMERICAN! We should be a nation that forgives. Because conservatives and Republicans constantly tell me this is a CHRISTIAN NATION. If it is such, isn't forgiveness a pretty important concept from the Holy Bible?

You want to go after people, for trying to help others in need? That they are not doing this for some profitable or political reason, but because its the right thing to do! You and others often state your against a tyrannical government taking over in the nation. Well, your adding that concept to flourish even more! Isn't it pretty tyrannical to go after the one group of people whom have the fewest protections and say in the nation?

If the states can ignore Federal law, and the Cities can ignore Federal law, then the people can ignore Federal law.

And they do it all the time. But it is unclear what federal law they are violating (I maintain they are not, as do most government officials and about 99% of the judiciary).

ReMakeYou -> RE: Defunding ‘Sanctuary Cities’ (10/22/2015 7:21:15 AM)

Please explain how both of these can be true:

"If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns"

"If you criminalize border crossings, that will protect us from criminals attempting to cross the border"

mnottertail -> RE: Defunding ‘Sanctuary Cities’ (10/22/2015 8:21:29 AM)

Hopefully that was a fast reply. I have not stated those were true.

And even without the threat to withold funds if such a law was passed you would call for the imprisonment of those officials who refused to comply.

mnottertail -> RE: Defunding ‘Sanctuary Cities’ (10/22/2015 8:28:26 AM)

Ja, thats right, because it is the LAW.

Yeah. Whoops. No idea how that first post got pointed at you.

As usual, you are full of boundless ignorance.

Since it hasn't happen, there is no need for me to state either way. Yet we are confronted by people from your political party that think jailing Americans who have not broken any actual laws (whose punishment would not be prison time), would serve prison sentences. Just because you do not like something because it goes against your politics is....NOT.....justification to imprison someone. If you allow it under your 'administration', then the Democrats can allow it under theirs.

Kind of like those Clinton Emails. She used the same protocols and systems as the previous administration's Secretary of State, Colin Powell. If what she did was wrong, please explain....in detail....why Republicans are not grilling that guy for a few years? Imagine if Clinton deleted 22 million emails; would Republicans have a cow? Yes, yes they would! Yet, it happened under the former George W. Bush administration. Were are all the investigations?

Now, if you allow this silly and foolish process to move forward, then later, you are allowing Democrats to do the same thing. You will not have any grounds to stand upon.

There is a difference between justice and revenge. You can not seem to understand what it is. Using revenge to 'get even' with others in political matches is a slippy slope to a tyrannical government taking hold. What's next, BamaD? Do we just accuse members of the opposing political party of wrong doing by manufacturing damning 'evidence'?

Oh forgot, your political party did that too just recently....

Ja, thats right, because it is the LAW.

So officials who protect illegals should be prosecuted because it is the law.
