Lucylastic -> Mississipi man tries to bomb a Walmart. (11/3/2015 5:15:43 AM)

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) — A man who's known for flying a 4-foot-long Mississippi state flag on his car has been accused of bombing a Wal-Mart because the chain stopped selling the flag, the police chief said Monday.

The explosive made a loud bang but did no damage when it was thrown early Sunday into the 24-hour Wal-Mart in Tupelo, Police Chief Bart Aguirre said Monday. He said bomb technicians reported that the package held enough explosive to damage the store if it had been assembled differently.

Marshall E. Leonard of Tupelo, a northeast Mississippi city of 34,500, was jailed on a charge of detonating an explosive, and police were searching his car and home, Aguirre said.

Wal-Mart is among retailers that stopped selling merchandise bearing reproductions of the Confederate battle flag — which makes up the upper left section of the Mississippi state flag — after the June 17 killing of nine black worshippers at a church in Charleston, South Carolina.

Some Mississippi cities and institutions also have stopped flying the state flag.

"He's a strong supporter of keeping that flag flying. ... This is his way of bringing attention to that," Aguirre said.

Leonard did not yet have an attorney who could comment Monday, Aguirre said. His bond hearing probably will be held Tuesday, and the judge will appoint an attorney if Leonard, who lives alone and has no job, cannot afford one, the police chief said.

Aguirre says Leonard allegedly lit a newspaper-wrapped package and threw it into the store around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

"An employee was sitting the vestibule taking a break. He told the employee to run — that he was going to blow the place up. He throws this package into the front entrance of Wal-Mart. He flees and the employee flees," Aguirre said.

He said Leonard's silver Mazda is bedecked with stickers of the Mississippi state flag and the Confederate battle flag, and it sports a big state flag on a flexible pole. Leonard was arrested about 2 a.m. for running a red light near the Wal-Mart, Aguirre said.

Now if he had access to a firearm, mowed down a dozen people and the same in injuries; he would have gotten national attention to his viewpoints....

That's why criminals and terrorists use guns rather than grenade like packages. An they attack people, not empty entrances of buildings.

If the guy wants a Mississippi State flag, they are not hard to come by. I'm sure there are right wing and pro-hateful groups that have quite a few in stock pile!

How did he afford all those stickers and flags if he has no job?

State/federal programs of one kind or another, would be my guess. Likewise, has no job at current. Maybe he had jobs in the recent past.

He better hope he gets a good public defender that actually cares about the system. From the trend that I see, most public defenders are in short supply. Many have only a couple of minutes to spend with their client (most of that taken in paper work). Many simply tell their client to plead guilty rather than go to trial. And many courts charge the accused of court costs, even if they win! Because doing such is suppose to be ....AGAINST the US CONSTITUTION! I have no idea why the practice is allowed to continue....

What guns were the Muslim's using on 9/11?

What gun was McVeigh using the day he brought down the federal building in Oklahoma?

What gun was Bill Ayers using when he attacked the Pentagon?

What guns were Charles Manson's 'family' using when they slaughtered Sharon Tate and others?

mnottertail -> RE: Mississipi man tries to bomb a Walmart. (11/3/2015 10:57:04 AM)

What gun was bush using when he lied about intel?
What gun was st. wrinkelmeat using when he robbed the american citizenry?

What does any of your "true conservative" rant have to do with:

Bombing a WalMart?
Criminals/terrorists using guns?

I was adding to your list of criminals and terrorists, however, you have a large glaring error.

What guns were the Muslim's using on 9/11?

You mean what guns were the Saudis using on 9/11. Muslims are beside the point there.

DaNewAgeViking -> RE: Mississipi man tries to bomb a Walmart. (11/3/2015 1:05:13 PM)

Getting back on topic, this character is definitely a few cans shy of a six-pack. Blowing up a Walmart over a flag is just plain nuts. Thankfully this crank wasn't all that competent, or this could have been a tragedy. My guess is he'll be a house guest of Homeland Security for a long time to come. Good riddance!

Actually...it's not. It was not their Saudi citizenship that made them fly into their targets.

It is the state flag you, don't have to be part of a hate group to fly your states flag.

You are absolutly right. He is a fruitcake. Fortuantly an incompetent fruitcake. It has nothing to do with bombs vs guns, and it has nothing to do with part of the MS flag having part of the Battle Flag of Northern VA.
No this isn't an all gun site, but if a pro 2nd amendment person post something about any crime that doesn't envolve a firearm they are accused of trying to distract from gun violence. I thought the same rules applied to everyone.
