The monster and hero or heroine is a classic plot theme, but taking a classic tale such as a Jane Austin, Edgar Allan Poe, or Lewis Carroll and twisting the universe and monster is it the rebirth of the Jabbarwoky or defaming a true classic. As a bit of mashed up reading Dawn Metcalf brought us the Twixt novels playing on the dark dwellings of Poe. Gene Showalter went through the looking glass with zombies, and the popular trend is anything with zombies giving aid to Elizabeth Bennet being the ultimate zombie killer courting romance in the English country side. Is it a crime against classic literature or do you love an alternate universe and a new monster for the strong leading character to overcome?
