Smelling purple.

Smelling purple.

I was watching a fab programme a while ago by Robert Winston - the celeb paediatrician. He was saying that the senses of young babies were fused together: for instance, colours could *literally* be loud or quiet to them - such that certain colours could hurt their ears because they were literally too noisy for them ... and possibly even smell bad. Really weird.

Not germane to the subject of this thread, perhaps ... but, then, nobody, including the OP, really gives a toss about that anyway. [:)]

It's about moronic sock puppets seeing how much they can get away with before TPTB actually give a shit and do something about them.

I wouldn't mind if they ever 'got away with' anything new, intelligent or even interesting. But they don't ever do any of the above. They're always, without exception, brainless, boring bastards with cretinous prejudices that they fondly imagine are things that none of us has thought of before, or are too timid and stuffed up to talk about.

I worked with a chef once who saw smells as colours, so if he liked the colours he produced, he knew things would smell and taste good. Kinda weird, but the rest of us in the kitchen learned to get along with it.

I have a friend with that same condition. It's called synesthesia. In her case, she sees sounds as colors. When I first met her, I asked if she had taken a hit or two of acid LOL!

I teach a boy with autism spectrum disorder who reacts badly to loud noises - total sensory overload. I showed the class an optical illusion involving pink and black shapes on the large whiteboard in the classroom and he totally freaked, telling me the board was 'too noisy'.

We had a discussion about it afterwards and he tells me he 'hears' colours as sounds, even music sometimes. Totally fascinating!

To me , days , months and seasons have colors. Wired huh.

I don't find that strange at all, certain colour combinations are seriously painful for my eyes, even single colours, very vivid pinks, oranges or greens, and it actually hurts something, the pain is similar to hearing certain high frequencies, maybe the nerves that are stimulated are connected?

littleclip -> RE: What is this strange forum all about? (11/13/2015 6:01:11 AM)

many smells for me evoke a color or fit a season some of this is the social conditioning but I still smell molasses and see autum

Lucylastic -> RE: What is this strange forum all about? (11/13/2015 6:03:03 AM)

yep me the same, Ive smelt purple, im the same about some colour combinations too. its not continuous or often but it has happened.

DesFIP -> RE: What is this strange forum all about? (11/13/2015 12:03:10 PM)

I find it fascinating, that we were all born with synesthesia and the rest of us outgrew it.

My oldest was extremely sensitive to environment as a newborn. She overstimulated easily. I had decorated her room with all the stuff designed to stimulate an infant and had to rip everything down, put in a 25W bulb and let her spend a couple of months in this all white dim space until her nervous system further developed.

womenthoubelong -> RE: What is this strange forum all about? (11/13/2015 12:30:31 PM)

20 years ago there was a TV program about people who constantly heard music in relation to colors. It was similar to people who have constant tinnitus.

mnottertail -> RE: What is this strange forum all about? (11/13/2015 12:32:05 PM)

but tinnitis is monochrome.

The brain is far more complex than yet known. Even the sub conscious is still mysterious because it cannot be be seem in electro chemical interactions within the brain. We live in three dimensions yet to date eleven dimensions have been discovered to date. Maybe parts of the brain operate in some of those dimensions
