in mountain view ca googels self driving car was pulled over and no driver to ticket. the car a prototype was doing 24 in a 35 the car is set at 25 mph to make the car more aprochable
the officer talked to the passé nger and reminded him of the impeding traffic law and as the car had not made a violation no ticket was issued.
this is going to be a great thing when it gets to everyone can relax on the way to and from a even and not worry about having a drink

Have you ever wondered why cops seem compelled to put thier nose where it is neither needed or wanted? If the car was impeeding traffic why did he not give a ticket? If the car was not impeeding traffic why did the clown stop the car and discuss the non issue?

Who is to say that if there was a driver, they wouldn't have been ticketed? You don't issue tickets to inanimate objects, you issue them to people. The person driving to be specific. As the passenger wasn't driving, they couldn't have been ticketed. There wasn't anyone to issue the ticket to.

This is one of those cases where the law has not yet caught up with the technology. When miniature cameras first appeared it was legal to stick them on your shoe and take pictures up strange women's skirts. The law prohibiting this didn't get passed for months afterward.

Or drone technology where suddenly new laws are being passed to prevent drones flying in commercial airspace or over stadiums. The debate about trying to take pictures of underaged females through their windows is still going on and how to protect the minors.

If Mountain View is where the driverless car prototype will be tested, I'd be surprised if they don't add laws to address this shortly.

Pretty sure google is the operator of the car whether they are in the driver seat or not. Looks to me the cop was just being nosey.

Google is a corporation, not in possession of a driver's license. I don't see who he could have issued a ticket to.

Although wouldn't it be weird to be in traffic court and have the case before yours involve a dozen high priced lawyers arguing that since nobody drove it, just a computer, they were above the law?

well traffic law does not clearly state who should be operating the vehicle.

The ceo would be the most logical first choice...next the entire board of directors...next all the stock holders.

Pretty sure judge ito would call for a "side bar"

dont be a smart ass and learn how to be one of those who speak correct enKlish. the operator can be seating on the drivers seat, he can also be controlling the vehicle from the passenger seat, OR in this case a remote controller. lets speak EnKlish. this is called Mechanic Boy, not Enklish

Next time I get stopped speeding at 98 mph in a 60 mph zone . . . I am jumping in the passenger seat and telling him it's a driverless car and there was an operating system error. Make the ticket out to Google

Omg...what a great idea. No shit...I mean it is more than dooable if you stand your ground and have your laptop out and furriously banging away on the keyboard while swearing just audibly. I am thinking something a bit above 50/50.

they would issue the ticket to whoever was in control of the car. There might have been a computer involved but there was a human running that computer.
