so far this year more transsexuals have been attacked and murdered than in in other year this should be headline news as it shows us what is wrong with our society but it is relegated to a footnote in news feeds. I have met many and am friends with several how is the medical condition a reason to attack and kill them. it is appalling to me. with homosexual advances the transgenderd are being ignored.

According to Mother Jones, 21 transgender people have been the victims of fatal violence so far this year. 22 veterans commit suicide every day. While it's sad that anyone loses their life to violence, it's not a more important issue than those who volunteer to protect our freedoms.

I was told that freedom is the twin sister of Santa Clause. The only difference is that people stop believing in Santa and continue to believe in freedom. I prefer Santa..

Ehhhhhhhhhh Why do we have to consistently compare trans folks to veterans? I don't understand why those two things should be in competition. BOTH things are an indication of what a terrible state we are in socially. I'd argue both could speak for a need of acceptance when it comes to mental health. Veterans should have access to help. "Trans panic" shouldn't be able to pass as an excuse for MURDER. Both are awful. I agree OP, this could use some more news coverage. The only reason I've heard about it at all is because I belong to several feminist groups on facebook.

It's not that I'm specifically comparing Transgendered to veterans. It's more because the numbers of 21 in a year vs 22 in a day struck a symmetry for me. As I said, anyone losing their life to violence is a terrible thing. I just found it ironic to say that the 21 murders should be headline news, when the 22 a day doesn't get covered.

not to mention the vets that die waiting for treatment at the va I had to wait 3 months for my first appointment and the va wont take Tricare either.

The suicides of veterans don't get covered because it's simply a case of fatigue. Members of the previous administration continue to be in complete denial about the utter clusterfuck they created with the "War on Terror." The current administration seems to have given up on any attempt even on damage control since one party has been indulging in an 8 year long temper tantrum because their guy didn't get into the White House. Further, the VA can't rob Peter to pay Paul anymore due to a combination of mismanagement and the aforementioned clusterfuck. LGBT causes make better headlines because they aren't daily occurrences. Besides Freema Agyeman and Laverne Cox are far more pleasant to look at than a combat veteran for even the average vanilla person.

yes i agree with felineranger the weary veterans mired in a corrupt system is not as interesting as the refuges or what trump said today it is sad but so very true we as a society need to look and see whats in front of us everyday much like domestic abuse that is non violent just saying
