submgreenbay -> Restrict inbox to only replies? (11/27/2015 4:11:15 PM)

Is there a way to restrict their inbox to only accept replies (from people they have already made contact with)?

Seems like a highly desirable option for many?

How exactly would someone make initial contact then?

I think it's a cash thing.

It would be initiated by the other person (profile owner). Thusly no undesired messages. Doesn't look like its exactly possible... I was checking out the mail controls earlier

And exactly how would that person initiate contact when their message was not a reply but an initial message? Initial contact messages would be rejected, so there would be no messages for people to be able to reply to.

Never mind it will never happen here. I was thinking a white list sort of thing. But you are right if everyone set their inbox that way it wouldn't work.

@submgreenbay

If you put your profile on "hide", through the Collarspace side, there will be only two ways for you to get mail. One is from friends you've already exchanged letters with initiating new letters by continuing to reply to old letters from you. The other way is by sending you mail through a post you've made in the message boards. Under your name and Barney Rubble avatar, under Posts, Joined, and Status is Hide, Profile, and PM. If someone clicks on PM they will be able to send you mail.

Thanks for the info. Figured there had to be a way.

Or just delete messages from people you don't know or if you don't like the first few lines of their message.

There's a third way to send mail to people with hidden profiles. Start an email to someone else then manually change the name in the "To" box to your intended recipient.

Yes this can be done. Simply hide your profile. Then only people whom you have sent an email can reply. But for them to reply to you, an email from you must be present in the their inbox (ie so they can hit the reply button)

Nope. Using the method I described above, you can send email to hidden accounts even if you have never corresponded before.

That's not exactly correct. Watch.

This is useful information, for sending mail to a hidden profile (although, in general, I'd avoid that for the reason that the profile was hidden in the first place).

1. If you already have mail from that hidden profile, you just reply to it.
2. If you click on the collarchat avatar or moniker for the hidden profile, it will allow you to send mail to that hidden profile.
3. If you reply to any other profile, you can change the name to that of the hidden profile.

All tricks are to be kept in the back pocket, for when they're needed, just like tools, so I appreciate the information the op requested, and received.

NOTE: Of course, if it were me, I'd just put a filter on the incoming mails, and be done with it, but that wouldn't allow only replies from people who have previously contacted the OP.
