ORIGINAL: mnottertail While I think that breaching protocols for secrecy like Petraeus did still warranted more punishment, there is no way to compare these apples and oranges. Snowden knowingly gave national secrets to the enemy. Just what enemy ? Russia ? China ? Are we at war with them ? So we wait for the attack and then start having security? I don't think you're getting this. I get Snowden's clut status. But there's also no denying what he did is dangerous. I fail to see how Russia or China in that we are not at war with them, would be interested in carrying out such attacks as the NSA's various programs are designed to prevent. And...still don't for that matter. The only danger that Snowden has created is to the top levels of the NSA and lets be honest here, nobody in the field was endangered and nobody at NSA will lose any sleep. This whole debate is to what extent is the govt. allowed to declare that the revelation of illegal searches on American citizens by our own govt. represents an actionable, commission of treason. It does to no extent. In fact, one could logically reverse the perverse logic that nobody should care about this if the have nothing to hide. The same could be said of the govt. What does the govt. care about the revelations...if they have nothing to hide. Of course not only did the govt. have much to hide their actions being illegal and unconsitutional and they knew it but the premise of both arguments is ridiculous. I mean how about everybody just shut up, the media, the press the Internet...everybody just shut up. I mean what does it matter...if you have nothing to say ? Is that coming next ?
