Looking at the current 2016 GOP candidates’ field over the past several months, disregarding the Trump factor, is Ted Cruz. One key statement during the presidential debate, “How about talking substantive issues that American’s are concerned about”. Cruz’s stance on limited government, tax reform, congressional accountability, and a safer America.

Cruz’s platform points of shrinking the government by any means necessary including agencies that are not need and unconstitutional. Hold congress accountable for Balanced Budget requiring a majority vote for legislation that have expensive price tags that cause national debt increases. Instituting internal controls that monitor federal spending and cut the fat and fraud.

Tax reform making the tax code understandable to all American’s and closing loop holes and change import goods tariffs. Introduction of a flat tax, and ending political targeting.

A safer America. Upholding the Constitution and recently Cruz’s stance on national security and 2nd Amendment rights.
Cruz has a proven track record of taking on the DC machine. I would not rule out the scenario of seeing a Trump/Cruz or Cruz/Trump ticket taking on Clinton in 2016.

The main issues that I am most concerned with that I have not seen anything of substance from any of the GOP front runners are social security reform, the economy, deficit reduction and comprehensive foreign policy. At is point it seems they are all dancing around these issues in high level generalizations.

Cruz ?

Princeton study/roommate: "I would pick a name out of the phone book over Cruz as president."
Boehner fromer speaker: Asked what he thought of Cruz, showed his middle finger.
Denied a senate (repub) procedural vote: McCain, I've never seen that ever, in all of my years here.

Geo. W. Bush, after working as hard as anybody (almost all by himself) to get W elected, sent Cruz to the Siberia of the FTC.

Even many repubs hate, yes...hate the guy and many on the right say would make the worse possible nominee.

Easy to put out the your typical rhetorical 'high level' generalities. How to balance the budget ? How to make govt. more responsible ?

Since when have the repubs ever actually while in office...pursued limited govt. or fiscal responsibility ?

Social Security is not in need of reform. [It] is owed $2.5-$3 trillion (various sources) by a congress that 'stole' the surplus.

There have been 60 vote majorities in the senate for laws, that...never became law. How do simple majorities change anything ?

Cruz's tax 'reform' includes tax cuts. Who do you tax...the 51% of all taxpayers that are making no more than $30,000/yr ?

Constitutionality ? How about wholesale electronic surveillance of American citizens that hasn't prevented anything ? Doing away with the fed ? Finally closing GITMO ? Sending in drones (or people for all we know) to kill American citizens without due process ?

As for the OP as I've written a couple of times, if I vote repub...John Kasich.

Easy to put out your typical rhetorical 'high level' generalities. How to balance the budget? How to make govt. more responsible?
Retort
We all have one vote and one voice. The OP did ask for merits. Not my typical generalities, but from the Cruz’s Five Freedoms platform. The point I was trying to make is it would help the American voter to see substance rather smoke and mirrors from each candidate so voters can have the specific information.

Since when have the repubs ever actually while in office...pursued limited govt. or fiscal responsibility?
Retort
This does not happen with either party Democrat or Republican, but again Cruz platform Five Freedoms.
The truth is Congressional over sight is broken. This is not going to change in the near future do to the current Supreme Court

Social Security is not in need of reform. [It] is owed $2.5-$3 trillion (various sources) by a congress that 'stole' the surplus.

Retort

Who is currently paying that back as well as ACA? I don’t think it is Congress or ever will be. It is taxpayers.

There have been 60 vote majorities in the senate for laws, that...never became law. How do simple majorities change anything?

Retort
That is a matter of abuse of executive power currently. How does change come about if you do nothing?

Cruz's tax 'reform' includes tax cuts. Who do you tax...the 51% of all taxpayers that are making no more than $30,000/yr.?

Retort
I don’t agree with all of Cruz’s tax reform. It does not matter as I am taxed either way.

Clinton or Sanders.

Glad you followed the OP's questioning...

There's that but besides all the delusional nonsense he got the correct use for the word "whom", 2 out of 3 times.

JVoV -> RE: Enough Trump. Who on the right do/would/might you support for President (who's running)? (12/6/2015 9:31:45 PM)

I honestly can't imagine a scenario that could play out to make me vote Republican.

DaNewAgeViking -> RE: Enough Trump. Who on the right do/would/might you support for President (who's running)? (12/7/2015 12:38:04 AM)

I concur with JVoV. No Republican is fit to be an American citizen, not to mention holding even the tiniest sliver of power. If any of the current crop of wack-os gets elected, it will be a disaster for this country.

I can, if Hillary gets the nomination, if Sanders gets the nomination [8D]

Enough Trump. Whom on the right do/would/might you support for President (who's running)?
Let's assume that the Trump thing dies down. Let's not assume everyone on the right supports the "Nazi."
So whom do/would/might you support for President? What are their merits?
Someone who's actually running, of course.

I'm not a Republican, so I can't vote in the primaries. I haven't been paying too much attention outside of here. It won't matter to me who's running until they nominate their candidate. At that point, I'll start looking.

I won't vote for Clinton or Sanders. I won't vote for Trump, either. If there were only two options (Clinton/Sanders or Trump), I'd likely boycott the election. I'm tired of voting "against" a candidate. I'm not going to vote unless I can actually vote "for" a candidate I actually support.

The only reason I'm registered as a Republican is so that I can vote in the primaries. I realize Trump is a wild card but how bad could he be ? We've had Obama for 2 terms. The only promise I think we can count on is finally getting the border situation fixed though I'd sure wonder how he's going to get Mexico to play for a wall. I'm not so sure how exactly he will get all these jobs back from China, Mexico ect. I am sure at some point, probably in a debate or a good interview he's going to get nailed down on having to give some specifics.

Looking at the current batch of GOP candidates, it would appear that the Republicans have already taken your advice.

Learn some history. Ideas that have been proven repeatedly, in our history and in other modern industrial nations.

And rejecting ideas that have been discredited for the past several decades.

As a valid discussion point referenced the Swanson endorsement that was dismissed by Cruz. The New York Times called Swanson a " a religious wombat that is an embarrassing infringe on American politics". The hot endorsement sought is the Iowa politicians at this point.

I wish the media would have taken this same tack back in 2008 with all the candidates, and that they'd continue to do so every election cycle.

quote:

There was that one time, back in the... oh, wait, nevermind. [:D]

Perhaps the "reform" could be Congress giving SS it's money back?

quote:

They make it easier for laws to pass the Senate. If it can't pass the Senate, it's not going to be able to become law anyway.

*****Important Sidebar: I do NOT support changing the filibuster rule, or reducing the 60 vote support for passage rule.

quote:

Cruz's tax 'reform' includes tax cuts. Who do you tax...the 51% of all taxpayers that are making no more than $30,000/yr ?

That all depends on where the tax cuts are applied, and what other reforms there are. Many GOP members have stated support for lowering all income taxes and ridding the tax laws of tax loopholes. If we closed the loopholes, we could reduce the income tax brackets without reducing revenues.

Personally, I'd like to see a 5-year plan where tax rates are lowered every year by the same amount until we get to that final bracket rate, but close all loopholes the first year. The "excess" revenues would go towards paying down the debt.

W and his Administration laid a big fat turd on us with the Patriot Act, and Obama and his Administration decided things weren't the way they wanted, so they got us some toilet paper to wipe some shit off, and then shit on us themselves. Slightly different shit, though.

He won't make it through to the nomination. I think he's a good guy, and he's done a pretty damn good job in Ohio. The Left will demonize him for his ties to Wall Street (while ignoring Hillary's). Not enough people will move beyond the scaremongering and he'll be dead in the water.

Here is someone from the Republican Side I might be incline to vote for:
[image]http://www.character-training.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/abraham-lincoln.jpg[/image]

Yes, we might have to dig him up from nowhere, America. Yes, we'd have to resurrect him (it was done once before, how tough could it be?). Then give him a pile of cash on the tune of a billion dollars (He has to make up for lost ground). He has four things running in his favor that no one else seeking the ticket has:

1 ) He has been a Commander in Chief! He was elected to two terms in office.
2 ) He fought against those Southern Traitors that wanted to ripe the nation in half.
3 ) He'll have a pretty kick ass detail for protection by the Secret Service (the one guy they CANT allow to be assassinated)
4 ) He would be grandfathered in under the the 22nd Amendment. His two terms came in before that amendment came into being!

Best part, the father of the Republican Party would give Mrs Clinton/Mr. Sanders a real race. Since back during his time, candidates REALLY had to show they could perform the job, not just bullshit it (i.e. current GOP clown car).
