crumpets -> Are you finding it newly almost IMPOSSIBLE to post to the message boards? (12/14/2015 12:36:35 PM)

Are you finding it newly almost IMPOSSIBLE to log into collarspace to read your mail and to post to Collarchat recently?

Are you, perchance, using Tor to protect your privacy?
I am, and that's almost certainly why "I" see the newly implemented (and very buggy) Captcha challenge.

It wouldn't be so bad if the Collarspace/Collarchat team had implemented it correctly, but they didn't even TEST it, since the bugs show up IMMEDIATELY!

Here is what I had to wade through, just to post this message!

1. First, I simply point my browser to the Collarspace URL but I immediately get hit with an indecipherable Captcha:
[image]http://cdn.collarspace.com/attachments/121415/CDD8F3B8-D369-4763-BE11-902B6A2E63B14.jpg[/image]

2. Then, I try to log in, and I get hit with another indecipherable Captcha!
[image]http://cdn.collarspace.com/attachments/121415/CDD8F3B8-D369-4763-BE11-902B6A2E63B15.jpg[/image]

3. Then, I click on the "Message Board" button, and I get hit with yet another indecipherable Captcha:
[image]http://cdn.collarspace.com/attachments/121415/CDD8F3B8-D369-4763-BE11-902B6A2E63B12.jpg[/image]

4. Then, I try to REPLY to a collarchat post, and I get hit with yet ANOTHER indecipherable Captcha!
[image]http://cdn.collarspace.com/attachments/121415/CDD8F3B8-D369-4763-BE11-902B6A2E63B11.jpg[/image]

Even then, the reply fails!
  • There is no warning
  • There is no error
  • But, time and time again, the reply fails.

The only way I know of to make the reply stick is to do a trick, which I won't mention, because they might shut it down, which involves a few steps, and then, and only then, does the reply stick!

    Jeeesus.
  • They don't care one whit about YOUR privacy (as witnessed by the fact they don't implement SSL encryption https).
  • Yet, they newly made just logging in and posting absolutely miserable for those few who know ANYTHING about privacy!

NOTE: If you're not explicitly protecting your privacy, like I am, two things will happen:
  • 1. You probably are not seeing this idiotically repeated constant and incessant set of indecipherable captcha challenges, and,
  • 2. Everyone anywhere close to you can see *everything* you type (including your login and password and content of your mails).

PS: A few months to about a year ago, they had a similar bug, where you had to log in time and time and time and time and time again, just to use Collarchat and Collarspace. This new bug is even worse because not only do you have to constantly log in again, but, you have to answer these indecipherable Captcha challenges, in addition. So, clearly they never once TESTED this new implementation!

EDIT: And, it doesn't end there. Constantly, almost every step you make, you're hit again and again and again with this indecipherable Captcha challenge. Over and over and over again. For a couple of minutes, you're thankfully done with the captcha challenge; but then it rises anew! It's on some sort of timer or something. Clearly it was never tested not even once.

Here are your only two options: Choose one and only one:
  • privacy but you get his with this constant incessant badly implemented captcha request dozens of times in any one session
  • no privacy whatsoever (everyone anywhere near you, including your neighbors, can see your login and password) but you're blissfully unaware of this newly implemented coding scheme

Maybe it has something to do with the wave of socks that we've been dealing with. After all, one was threatening to "fill the boards with thousands of new posts and users over the holidays," or some such drivel.

I have been having trouble posting here as well, I expect they are 'enhancing' something.

Until more of you regulars thread I will not do so, save that xmas list of mine…checks his profile…ah..i wrote that a long time ago and forgot to include a she vet adorned in bespoke corsetry and her hobbies include looking after me and feeding me cake

Dear Ms Santa as I have been so good flutters eyelashes, I require the following:

    * A Muffin made of muffinium
    * A pair of golden slippers
    * A castle, with turrets and those lovely beds adorned with 4 posters, if you catch my drift and I am sure that you do.
    * A moat filled with lava and magma and ravenous crocodile & peckish piranhas; best to be safe – the crocs are wrapped in tinfoil, be no continuity errors here
    * A pair of funky ankle socks
    * A Map of the planet urth
    * 14.3 quintillion joules of energy
    * An extension socket
    * The Cullinan diamond
    * A Steinway piano
    * All the chocolate selection boxes in the world, minus any blasphemous piece of chocolate that has the word orange in it – please note orange is clearly a fruit
    * A toaster made of lead
(so i can beat some sense into you with it)

You are using TOR are you not. I am not so I have no problems, nor am I using VPN. No-one cares I am on a fetish site - albeit all those stereotypes seem to get all the bad press..which is probably why I have remained here, and there. :0 see I do good...well at least I try too.

I miss one of my olde user names SchroedingersSock - I was never a sock(profile picture the same and it made me smile- it was a reflection of liars and cheats and atrocities of stereotypes who inhabit all these sites in vast numbers...should we not get rid of all of those haughty naughty one there numbers are millions, and depserate attention whores v the odd sock or pissed of socky person (yes well even that one is trying my patience – he refuses to cite credible)

I completely understand if that's the case.
I also understand if it's the case that the IT team here is a volunteer team (maybe they're just kids?).

However, I doubt that the new implementation is to reduce the socks, because it can't do that because all it can do is hinder ROBOTS!
    Captcha can't hinder (human) socks.

For example, if "I' wanted to be a sock, implementing Captcha on the Tor Exit Nodes wouldn't stop me one bit because I'd simply log in as a human (after many challenges, just like I'm doing now). I'd be able to post as any sock I'd want to post as, so, if that's the reason, it can't work.

Besides, as someone else noted elsewhere, I could simply log in using VPN, and that would enable me to post as a sock too!

The ONLY reason for Captcha is to stop robots.

I have nothing against stopping robots (although, I question if robots are really bothering to log into Collarspace and post things since robots need to make money too).

The problem is that the implementation is flawed (as noted in the OP).
It was never tested. Not even once.

Again, I can understand if the IT staff is volunteering their services (because they don't have a lot of time nor expertise).
If they want, they can contact me and I can show them what the problem is (but they can easily test it themselves).

IMHO, the real solution is to negate the need for us to use Tor and VPN in the first place.
That would be as easy as implementing SSL encryption (which is the "s" in https).

tj444 -> RE: Are you finding it newly almost IMPOSSIBLE to post to the message boards? (12/14/2015 2:36:50 PM)

    YES!

So many public wifis block websites like this so the only way around them is to use TOR and this stupid system makes it almost impossible to access this site now when previously it was easy peasy.. the harder it is to access, the less posters there will be..

NookieNotes -> RE: Are you finding it newly almost IMPOSSIBLE to post to the message boards? (12/14/2015 2:37:04 PM)

Or, maybe, just maybe, it would frustrate the hell out of those HUMAN socks, like it's doing to you. And we all know that you love your socks.

    *shrugs*

Who knows? I know that I don't worry about this, because on this site, there is nothing I don't want anyone to know, anyway.

littleclip -> RE: Are you finding it newly almost IMPOSSIBLE to post to the message boards? (12/14/2015 4:13:05 PM)

I have no difficulty posting I have home wi fi I don't try in public ones as the site is considered porn by many of the card processors that make the rules for the sites to follow if they want to be allowed to process credit cards. the mods have been working to remove many of the socks but it helps if us users report the annoying socks so admin can do something about them

WickedsDesire -> RE: Are you finding it newly almost IMPOSSIBLE to post to the message boards? (12/14/2015 5:32:56 PM)

NookieNotes for every sock on here I can name openly 100 fake profiles and more if i add in attention whores and their kindred and a billion married folks but at least you realish I guess..i have spkethuntoi thee re which parmaters ye belong too...and you sit in judgement of the odd sock...fines thee forty muffins

Now tell unto i why i keep seeing awaiting approval? are they awaiting cake, to bring abount end time (no the)

Computer twit here trying to add information.

I don't think it's you and I don't think it is because you happen to be using TOR. I think just about everyone has noticed differences in the site speed over (at least) the last month or so. Whatever they are playing around with has caused some issues for just about everyone at any given time. Sometimes down completely and others, posts will time out waiting on collarspace to accept the entry. Kirata's got a thing recently that his posts will show up with random italics or in bold font.

So, whatever is going on, I don't think it's just you or just TOR users. I think it's site related.

General answer, not a specific one.

When you see [awaiting approval] on the boards, it means a person's posting privileges have been at least temporarily removed. Why the privileges have been removed are dependent upon the individual. It can be anything from ToS violations, to not following forum guidelines, or whatever the powers that be have determined that a members is doing a no-no.

A person under moderation can have their posts approved by a member of the staff after a certain time period. (Oside is a better reference for this particular part than I am.) Basically, it's a way to make sure the person has chosen to play nice and follow the rules.

It actually has everything to do with the fact that I'm using Tor Exit Nodes in order to provide the basic security that the web site lacks.

    Speed is one thing.
This is about the incessant badly implemented Captcha challenges, and the resulting bugs involved where the posts don't go through anyway (nobody tested the new implementation).

If you look at the above message, you'll see that Collarspace/Collarchat has (recently?) implemented a Cloudflare CDN, so, that may be what they're currently "playing around with" (e.g., cdn.collarchat.com).

Kirata's got a thing recently that his posts will show up with random italics or in bold font.

I grant you that there are plenty of bugs to pass around, when it comes to the collarspace & collarchat web portals.
For example, just to post this, I have to log in a half-dozen times, and even then it fails unless/until I perform a workaround trick.
    quote:

So, whatever is going on, I don't think it's just you or just TOR users. I think it's site related.

  • 1. I tested a login using VPN and Firefox - which worked (as expected) without any Captcha challenge.
  • 2. I tested a login using Firefox and my neighbor's WiFi AP (don't ask me how I know the SSID/password) - which also worked (as expected) without any Captcha challenge.
  • 3. I tested a login using Firefox with Tor Exit Nodes - and that failed - as expected - causing numerous indecipherable Captcha challenges.

So, it's pretty clear they (erroneously) implemented Captcha challenges specifically to prevent ROBOTS (that's all Captcha does) from logging in with the kind of anonymity that Tor Exit Nodes provide (and not the kind of security that VPN provides).

Since it's unquestionably a very bad idea to log into Collarspace/Collarchat without encryption, and since the Tor Exit Nodes are, in effect, hideously hindered by the newly buggy Cloudflare CDN implementation, the only viable solution is to beg off the CollarSpace/CollarChat web site altogether in favor of a better implemented web site (such as FL clearly is).

Some would say no harm done! :)

It was my understanding that the Awaiting Approval on the forum Table of Contents was implemented by the Mods, activated manually, when folks violated the TOS, but, that the [Awaiting Approval] in a collarchat post was merely a joke, implemented by manually typing in the words, as shown below:

    [Awaiting Approval]

    Is that not the case?
    quote:

    ORIGINAL: LadyPact
Basically, it's a way to make sure the person has chosen to play nice and follow the rules.

What they used to do, long ago anyway, is revoke the users' posting privilages on Collarchat, all the while preserving the privileges on CollarSpace (which used to be CollarMe at the time).

BTW, I looked at the code that Collarchat implements and clearly they're using Cloudflare CDNs & Google Captcha.

The buggy code may be these scripts, which are called by this web page:
  • "collarchat.com/cdn-cgi/l/chk_captcha"
  • "collarchat.com/cdn-cgi/scripts/cf.challenge.js"

I had never noticed whether they were using Cloudflare in the past though, but Cloudflare is clearly in the code:
  • data-orig-ref="www.cloudflare.com/5xx-error-landing?utm_source=error_footer"

Google's Captcha in also clearly called in the code.

  • crumpets -> RE: Are you finding it newly almost IMPOSSIBLE to post to the message boards? (12/15/2015 1:33:55 AM)

I just disproved my theory on the Awaiting Approval:

Notice in the screenshot below that one poster's "hide" is treated differently than another poster's "hide".

So, the Awaiting Approval on the post itself (as opposed to the thread) "is" something that the mods seem to have implemented.
