Well, if you look at it from a purely biological perspective, pregnancy is a risk, until not too long ago women regularly died while giving birth, it makes sense that they would want a partner who gives the offspring the best genes possible for survival, as females naturally tend to have a strong instinct to protect their offspring, secure contraception is again a fairly recent thing.

I honestly don't know why I tick like I do, but hey, if I am not attracted to somebody, it just isn't going to happen, I can admire bodies that are perfectly gorgeous, if they open their mouths and their attitude stinks or they are plainly stupid, or we just don't click, it's not going to happen, even if I would spend years on a lonely island...

I think they touched on the subject in the art of war. That book is still a guiding factor in most military operations today and we have entire companies dedicated to PSYOPS. Not sure if they are as effective as they were then however....

Could not agree more.

It's not a thing about being unable to recognize that a person is physically attractive. It's that whatever it is they have to have to be sexually attractive. It varies among demisexuals but whatever it is, it has to be there.

Money? Lol

No. LOL.

Just for info. Never been a prodomme and fin kink isn't one of my things. I'm actually very much against people who attempt to buy my affections. It immediately tells me they know nothing about me as a human.

How to explain?

When I emotionally bond, I can't tell you exactly *what* it is that gets me to emotionally bond. Sometimes, it can be the simplest thing. Can't predict it, either. It's not like I can say, "if you talk to me about architecture, I'll be interested in you," because that's not how it goes. I might enjoy talking about architecture with the person but the sexual spark of attraction doesn't necessarily happen.

LP, you are so going to get a laugh out of this...

Dog behaviourist (super straight guy, we know him a bit, vanilla to the core) and we worked with Harvey, Harvey decided to show his dick, I went "isn't it like affection in a boy, all my male dogs did that when I came in" - dog behaviourist "Different situation, he's a pup, you aren't coming in, he's having the lipstick out, it's actually a sign of showing off, trying to intimidate, kind of like assholes on the internet who do that to women, only in a dog it's more innocent and just instinct..."

Turned out his wife and daughter got "those" pics sent while being on websites that were very very vanilla.

I really have no idea where that dig waving comes from or what guys are trying to achieve with it, I hope that the gay guys who pretend to be women enjoy the pics though

Wasn't accusing you of fin or pro activities, fin or pro's are demisexual because they require money to be attracted... I thought it was funny..

No offense taken, I assure you.

However, can promise that females on the forums have to correct those things when it's not the case. Sometimes, some very horrid things can be said to women on either side of the slash when not cleared up.

Meant you no offense, either.

If you were one I doubt you'd be spending this much time in these forums...

Oddly enough, I've seen spending time on the forums (not just throwing out random ads) work quite well.

Lol I guess we shall see...

Interesting terminology. This is the first I have heard the term. Good to learn new things :) I understand the concept but not really sure that Demi fits the bill of what you are trying to describe. Mutli-sexual? but that just does not ring well like demi-sexual. Quasi? My vote is for a better name LOL. FYI - I am not the language police

From Wiki:
Demi is a prefix meaning "half", loaned from French; for example, demi frere which means "half brother" or demi soeur which means "half sister". Demi-glace is made by simmering and reducing by half a mixture of half brown stock and half espagnole sauce.
Demi also has Latin roots as a feminine given name, originally a nickname form of Demetria, the feminine form of the masculine name Demetrius, which is itself the Latin and English spelling of Greek name Demetrios.

From Urban Dictionary:
Demi
A cool person. Someone popular for their personality and interests.
"Did you see him? He's so Demi!"

From Merriam Webster:
Full Definition of demi-
1
: half <demisemiquaver>
2
: one that partly belongs to (a specified type or class) <demigod>

Edited to add the link for all the terms to describe sexual orientation - I never knew there were so many!!!!:

Well that explains A LOT!

DesFIP -> RE: Demisexual (12/20/2015 3:13:37 PM)

Demi is better than multi. Because I'm not multi attracted, meaning attracted to multiple people. And actually it's probably a lot less than half the time that something sparks it.

Deca maybe, meaning a tenth of the time?

LadyPact -> RE: Demisexual (12/20/2015 3:42:17 PM)

While demi does mean half, I think the reason that they don't use something like deca is because demisexuals exist in a range, falling in different places on the scale between asexual and what some folks would call 'normal' levels of sexual attraction. One person might be in the tenth percentile, while another person might be in the sixtieth. It would be more accurate if there were a way to say 'on the range between' but if they've come up with that, I haven't quite seen it.

DocStrange -> RE: Demisexual (12/20/2015 6:28:11 PM)

I've got it!
pseudo-quasi-semi-sexual [8D]

longwayhome -> RE: Demisexual (12/21/2015 3:52:45 AM)

Don't know about whether more women than men are "demisexual", because, as usual women and men describe themselves differently. The concept seems fairly useful, although as with most things it probably sucks as a label.

Just as with the OP, I suspect that I am quite strongly demisexual, in that my partners have without exception been people who I was not conscious of being physically attracted to when I first met them. That however changed enormously in the course of getting to know them, and our relationships developed to become very strongly sexual.

I do however think that people I don't know are good-looking, but there is never any genuine attraction without getting to know them. As a consequence I have never done anything particularly sexual with someone I don't know or don't see as a friend. Not sure how that tallies with all the "spreading your seed" stuff, maybe I'm just making sure my seed is safe (bloody safe as it happens in terms of reproduction).

In the case of celebrities, I am physically/sexually attracted to people in the public eye sometimes, but it tends to be because I am impressed by them for some reason, not how they look. For that reason models tend to do nothing for me because they just seem like disembodied images.

Before this all gets too high minded, I should note that sexualised images do turn me on if I can create context, but random explicit pictures do not. I guess that probably describes most people. The point is I can't claim only to be attracted to people I connect with cerebrally.

This has always caused problems for some people because I never have been particularly interested in "dating", only in developing friendships, which of course have no guarantee of even the consideration of any kind of relationship. I love going out and meeting people but the word "date" leaves me cold. I therefore end up "not looking", whether I am single or not because for many, taking time to develop a friendship, with no conditions, is the very definition of time wasting. For me though, getting to know someone is never a waste of time.
