jlf1961 -> Department of Immigration stops terrorist plot agains disneyworld??? (12/23/2015 1:36:56 PM)

A Muslim family of 11, most of whom were children, were denied permission to board a US bound flight for no reason. The final destination of the family:

Disney World.

Source

Not only were the family given no reason, but the British government was also not given a reason when they inquired as to the reasons for the family not allowed to board the plane.

Funny thing, well maybe not so funny, is that in recent months, even prior to the attack in Paris, of the people denied permission to board US bound flights at the gate, most have been Muslim.

I wonder which religious/ethnic group might be next?

I know it's the Daily Mail, but there may have been some reason, rather than no reason at all.
    quote:

Facebook page linked to Taliban and Al Qaeda was registered to same address as British Muslim father whose Disneyland trip was blocked by Homeland Security

Whether there's any truth to the FB page story, or if the FB page is actually linked to him, there was some sort of reason.

What I did find hilarious, though, is this little snippet from your article:
    quote:

U.S. officials on Wednesday strongly denied that the Mahmood family was targeted based on their religion. But the case prompted America’s largest Muslim advocacy organization to call for an investigation into whether Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s call for a “total and complete” ban on Muslims entering the United States was being “implemented informally” by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Why the fuck would the DHS implement programs or plans for someone who is running for President, especially before that candidate is even the nominated candidate?!?

PeonForHer -> RE: Department of Immigration stops terrorist plot agains disneyworld??? (12/23/2015 2:05:37 PM)

It's a damned embarrassment, apart from anything else. Our PM, David Cameron, has been asked to intervene by the family's MP.

You've got to wonder at the 'profiling policy', as well: do terrorists normally travel in large family units - including young children - and visit Disneyworld as part of their overall tour of the target country? Oh well. I'm sure somebody, somewhere, knew what he/she was doing with this matter.

Ah. Some enlightenment. The article says:

"The account, which includes information suggesting it may have been published as a joke, was in the name of Hamza Hussain - a first name shared by Mr Mahmood's 18-year-old son. It reportedly lists the job titles 'supervisor at Taliban and leader at al-Qaeda'."

US Border Control is not widely regarded for its sense of humour. Even people like me, who has never travelled to the USA, know this.

There is no rhyme or reason to the no fly list.
When it was first instituted, SENATOR Ted Kennedy found himself on it.
I understand that there are those on the Right that would clap and cheer but he was a fuckin SENATOR.

Peon...................one of the questions the U.S. Immigration Dept used to ask us when I was a seaman, was, " Ïs there any madness in your family ?" and when you are dragged out of bed in the early hours of the morning to answer dumb questions such as this, the obvious answer was "yeah, my sister married a yank" ........................that usually stopped one going ashore in America for that voyage.

Another of these memorable questions was "Are you here to overthrow the constitution or government of the United States ".........................this to a skinny, pimply little galley boy who was still half asleep.

They really haven't changed much, have they ?

PeonForHer -> RE: Department of Immigration stops terrorist plot agains disneyworld??? (12/23/2015 3:43:01 PM)

No. They really, *really* don't do humour. Least of all irony or sarcasm. I've been told this many, many times, and I just wouldn't chance the slightest bit of it with them. I've been told it's like dealing with robots: anything other than *utterly straight* just switches them from their standard ice-cold to absolute zero.

I found it humoruous, but wrong, and an example of how screwed up the list already was.

As a local, I know that our theme park's have been alerted to a potential serious threat recently. They've all responded by adding metal detectors at main entry points.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: Department of Immigration stops terrorist plot agains disneyworld??? (12/23/2015 3:52:00 PM)

And the quarantine department was just as funny....................for years they wouldn't admit there was a place called 'China' .................There was Formosa or Taiwan as it became, but no China.
One trip, we had some rabbits in the freezer that came from China but the inspector told us that they didn't because there was no such place.................The argument went back and forth in a freezing cold store room until the chef came up with the idea of taking them out of the marked box and putting them in an unmarked garbag and tell the inspector they really came from Greenland. He ticked his little piece of paper then and went away happy as a pig in shit, leaving the whole galley crew looking at each other, scratching their heads and reaching for a beer !!!

OK. Another piece of the puzzle, then.

To be honest, the Xmas season has often put me just a little on edge. I've always thought it must be an obvious time for Islamic terrorist activity and have been slightly surprised that something nasty hasn't happened here in the UK, anyway, so far.

MariaB -> RE: Department of Immigration stops terrorist plot agains disneyworld??? (12/24/2015 2:37:27 AM)

Instilling fear is something that's often used for political advantage and in Trumps case, stirring up hysteria is an opportunity that fell right in his podgy lap.

Its happening in the Uk, France and Germany too but for some reason, our right wing trash tabloids and our rhetorical speeches from the Cameron government have mainly fallen on deaf ears. Perhaps that's because Europeans are generally more suspicious of other agendas and underhand goings on!

... (snipped)

It's also something at which terrorists are very successful when leaders of their target governments are lazy, feckless wastes of human flesh that spend more time on "Well, Christians did bad shit, too ..." than recognizing a threat.

One of the very basic tenets of the foundation of this country is the preamble of the constitution. I'll do this from memory (just to the part that's relevant):

quote:

We The People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense ...

Our current failure-in-chief has come nowhere near to living up to these ideals.

Well the British Government has made a real concerted effort to tell us we are all in grave danger. Whilst Cameron urges his minions to keep calm and carry on, he's reminded us on numerous occasions that we are on 'Red Alert' and we've never been in such danger [8|].
The right wing press who are desperate for a Syrian immigration story are magnifying every snippet of news they can find with a Muslim sounding name to but to be frank, we are all starting to get a bit bored with it now.

People only shout about what the Christians did when it becomes relevant to a topic and of course, there are lots of topics going on about the evils of Islam right now so Christianity is bound to get a mention, regardless of what political forum we use. That doesn't mean Europeans spend all day long weighing up the evils of different religions but many of us do have passing thoughts on a daily basis about what the fuck our governments are up to.

We are merely a more suspicious lot but that's come from the lies that get unfurled every time we invade a middle eastern country.

I have my own particular anxiety about Christmas shopping in the West End and terrorism - a trauma from the IRA Harrods bomb in 1983. Not entirely rational - I'm fully aware.

When I applied for a US visa one of the questions they insisted I answer seriously was this:
'Are you or have you ever been associated with or an agent of Nazi Germany?'
which was rather difficult for me to take seriously as I was born a couple of decades after the demise of Nazi Germany in 1945. When I pointed this out to the official, I was saddened to discover that he was unable to see the funny side of this ..... Did I really look a mere 50 or so years older than my age I wondered.......

So it would appear that Peon is correct - these people really don't do humour.

Oh me too Peon; there's nothing wrong with being vigilant. I was approaching Tavistock in 2005 when the bus bomb went off.

London was as busy as ever this December though; is that because we are just plain daft? or is it because we refuse to let fear rule our lives?

I agree...he should have been on the "No Drive" list... The Kennedy who should NOT have been flying was John Jr.

That was a job offer

Operation Paperclip (1949–1990) was the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) program in which over 1,500 German scientists, engineers, and technicians, from Nazi Germany and other foreign countries were brought to the United States for employment in the aftermath of World War II.[1]

see you missed an opportunity to join the big club
