Clearly, there was nothing sexual going on here. But this just makes me believe even more that the concept of helplessness, bondage, fear, danger etc. are some how hardwired into me as being "very exciting." Before Batman with Adam West (I think I was around 7 to 9 years old), I was watching cartoons and gravitated toward those with a hero in peril who would get captured, etc.

I fell into a Youtube hole today and things started coming back to me. I remembered "Underdog" but wasn't sure why or how, I just have an image of a dog in a superhero suit tied up. When I heard the theme song I felt quite odd. Very surreal. I wasn't about to dig through to find any Underdog tied up, but I found this one where he and his girlfriend dog get sucked into a vacuum, then the villain filled the tank up with water slowly. That comes right out of my current fantasies, geez.

I couldn't figure something out tho as I watched this cartoon - this dog was like a dope, talking super slow (really annoying) and in RHYMES. I was like - what would I see appealing about this "hero" -- then when he got his "super power ring" on, he got muscles and looked handsome and was all powerful. Ah, there you go.

Underdog in a tank - cartoon from the 60s:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CG2DsNUpus

Now I am trying to figure out what was the show with the british kid that got put into a bird cage (HR Puff n stuff?). There was also Land of the Lost, I think they got tied up. (Edit, found it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WGDofcXTzE it's at about 18:00 and it really sheds some light on my...err..side)

My age around this time was about 2 - 3 years old.

Nature or nurture? You tell me.

The ultimate damsel in distress cartoon was Dudley Do-Right. Snidely Whiplas was constantly tying up Nell to the train tracks with Dudley always coming hap haphazardly to the rescue.

Make you wonder if any kids fantasied about being tied up and being rescued. And this this carry over into their adult life?

I don't know, it's an interesting premise. But then for a bit I thought - well, all cartoons had some suspense, good guys and bad guys, etc. Upon further reflection though -- no, there's care bears, and those kinds of things, I never watched that. I watched cartoons that had some level of intrigue, possible capture (of a male character), that kind of thing. There was absolutely NOTHING sexual going on. I just found it really compelling. I loved it.

As I grew up, I still remember the things I wanted to watch, and they all featured captured spies, guys tied up, etc. Hell, I even remember the Brady Bunch episode where they got tied up, and later on, the Happy Days episode when Fonzie got tied up. It got into my wiring that guys tied up was exciting and fun to watch. This was when I still thought boys had cooties anyway.

Even going down the road as I matured, as a young teen, now kind of interested in boys, I did not think of chasing them or kissing them, I thought about tying them up. Cops and robbers. No playing boring old "house" at my place. And there were no inappropriate things going on during this, it was all just kids playing. I never even played "doctor" with the boy next door. But I did tie him up. Again, not romantically or sexually, just games.

I carried in into my older teen years, I did start to tie up guys in a more flirtacious way, but the farthest we'd get is kissing. I was not promiscuous and was raised conservatively. I was tying up guys and making out and moving into foreplay (after age 18) and stuff with some petting and doing TONS of non sexual bondage with guys my age years before I even experienced my first orgasm.

I've observed this before and looked for similar stories in others; I feel like my interest in bondage (more specifically, men in bondage, heroes in bondage, men being overpowered, men being made unconscious, men being put into tanks of water) grew inside me parallel to my interest in sexual intimacy. And I can still keep both separate. Without problem.

I also distinctly remember in my 20s when I had a pretty good grip on my sexuality, I was much more interested and desiring bondage boytoy type partners than sexual partners. I could give myself an orgasm after all, but I could not give myself hairpulling, that precious wince, the straining against bonds that I was addicted to. One guy one asked me if I was "trading bondage for sex" or something like that. I never provided sex to a man I was not consenting to have sex with in exchange for bondage, but there were certainly times that I had to make it VERY clear to guys as we were getting to know each other that bondage and roleplaying was my thing, and just because I wanted to tie them up and make them do various things to push my buttons, it did NOT mean I wanted to have sex or give them a blow job.

To this day, I think my most rewarding BDSM encounters are devoid of sexual intercourse (PIV) because that kind of intimacy is just on a different wavelength. I have NO interest in reaching orgasm just because tying up a guy is getting me all wound up, but I get incredibly wet. On the other side of the spectrum, if a guy gets me very wet via traditional foreplay and making out, then I get wet and WANT an orgasm. They are different parts of my brain.

I started to mix them more as I got older and that's ok too, but when I look back, I think I like focusing on one thing rather than the other, or doing them in sequential order, vs mixing it all together.

I loved all the comics, especially with female heros, and yes, for me mixing BDSM with sex never really worked, it's more one or the other, almost like mixing it kinda makes it more watered down.

Just a personal preference.

I think it is an interesting dichotomy. Did people want to be the heroine or the damsel in distress? I am sure there is a mix but I would be curious if it was more 50/50 or more 80/20 split? Something we will probably never know.

For me, my sexuality really did not happen until I was about 19. And it was another 5 years after that before I got involved into any BDSM. So I do not think cartoons fashioned/influenced my BDSM desires.

I always wanted to have Superman's powers. Though I thought it would be cool to be rescued by Batman. So for me it depended on the super hero on whether I wanted to be the hero or the rescuee. I think Green Lantern though was my favorite hero. I was always fascinated by space and Green Lantern could fly through space. I also liked that Green Lantern was a normal person until he used his ring to transform. He could lead his normal everyday life until his powers were needed. Sorta of like being submissive behind closed doors. A person walking down the street would never know I was into BDSM.

And my last note. My favorite female hero was Wonder Woman :)

road runner :)..bests the helpless heroine any day of the week....nods to the original batman both were typecast after that and barely worked again...adam west on family guy - mayor west - a lot of people do not actually know that.

In my country, where the haggis roam freely, we had things called variety shows where the wenches (nice infliction) were always kitted out in suspenders and corset - type accoutrements. Is that why I like that so much or are they simply delicious like the muffin and the one above me ladyc

Ops question does not just apply to days of yore eg

magic postion

This episode of "Speed Buggy" was my f'ing favorite. It was and still is my all time favorite kids cartoon. (Besides Bugs Bunny) -

I remember getting up on Saturday morning and hoping that they were going to re-play this episode because I loved it so much.

Episode #15 ----> "The Hidden Valley of Amazonia"
December 15, 1973 65-15

While racing in the Himalaya 500, Speed Buggy and the gang come across the hidden valley of Amazonia where women rule and men are slaves.

They end up meeting Queen Sheba who uses a mind-ruling device to take control of Tinker and Mark's minds.

Debbie is made an Amazonian, but when she is made to do things their way she decides the ruling women are as oppressive as any male despots. She and Speed Buggy work to break Tinker, Mark and the native men from the mind ruler and try and turn it on the femnist fascists.

For me it was less cartoons and far more those seventies and earlier pulp magazine and book covers.
Fucking Frank Frazzetta and Boris Vallejo likely ruined me with their damsels in distress pictures

I don't know about nature or nurture but I do remember some strange things I stumbled across as a child which I found exciting...
Not sure if many people would have seen "The Maxx" but that small cartoon series was pretty interesting. Like LC and Kana, I also found some comics and pulp book covers which seemed to connect with things inside me which I wouldn't even to begin to understand or explore until decades later. Depictions of women in distress at the hands of a man mainly.

It's an interesting topic, trying to peer back through the mists of time into the mind of the child you once were, to consider things which may have influenced your development and what exactly was always there in the first place. It's kinda like how astronomers today try to look further and further in the hopes of understanding the early universe.

I think I saw a lot of the same cartoons and television shows and identified with the guys getting captured and put into bondage and peril. I even remember being a critic of technique, noticing when bondage would have been ineffective and rooting for a better job restraining the "victim." Some of these memories go as far back as any of my memories. Later, it got baked into my sexuality, but I too can keep the things separate.

Nature or nurture? Both, I think. How many people watched the same thing without being bewitched by the bondage and vulnerability? I have often wondered what makes the difference for those of us to whom this is compelling... probably a variety of factors.

1) Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers -
A dog was on a neck leash attached
to a mine cart which was going fast and the dog had to run
after it and jump in. If he didn't, or he tripped or something, he would've died in a very nasty way (being a Disney cartoon, of course he made it)

2) Some obscure cartoon (made by the company
Glaumont perhaps?) which showed a woman
not only sitting in a throne shackled by the
wrists to the armrests, but she also had a
collar locked on her neck teathered by a
short chain to the back rest just above
her head. This one was a subject of many
of my fantasies for years.

A couple non cartoon examples:

A live action drama which featured a woman
who was kidnapped by her biker ex and his
comrades chained to a tree with a "punk" collar
around her neck and a padlock both keeping the buckle
secured and attached to the chain. I remember her
saying "If you love me you will let me go." No amount of Google searching turned up anything like this. All I can remember about it was that I saw it in the 80s, and it
was part of some McGuyver or Miami Vice style show.

A man was fighting a street gang in some early to mid 80s movie in what appeared to be a locker room. The managed to get a chain around his neck and locked around a couple support poles while he was bent over a bit backwards over
a short wall. One of the gang members then hand gagged
him and said some typical 80s movie villian/gang line.

I remember the Brady Bunch episode where the family visited an old west ghost town, and it's sole inhabitant locked
them inside of the town jail and went away to do something. This got me real excited and
I have fantasies of a dom locking me in an old
abandoned jail cell or some other secure
structure to keep me safe and so I don't
wander as he or she goes off to hunt or
do some other business. Of course, the dom has all of the keys with him/her instead of leaving them behind like
in the BB episode.

I've always had fantasies of being the damsel in distress, or the princess locked in the tower, but
I am not sure if I want to be tied to railroad tracks. :)

I was around seven when I watched a cartoon where a mouse rolled a cat up in pastry. I've never seen it since but I can still see that cartoon in my minds eye. Shortly after I started rolling my friends up in the hall rug. I don't know why it triggered something in me but it did.

Sounds like Tom and Jerry, though I would think it would
be Jerry getting rolled up in the pastery?

Now that I think about it, it might have been a metal bar they
were holding his mouth, kind of like a bit gag

I remember the cartoon precious pup. I haven't seen it in a zillion years. I think they would give him a dog biscuit and he would go crazy going.... Mmmm....mmmmm....mmm... Hugging himself. Then he would drift up on a cloud. I'm going to have to look on YouTube for that!
I stand corrected... It was snuffles from quick draw McGraw something like that. Ha.

Could it be from the Tale of of Samuel Wiskers?
