MrRodgers -> Go easy on the egg nog, or punch or.....? (12/25/2015 5:43:24 AM)

HERE During these holidays more than others, I think of those that are no longer with us.

This tally of alcohol-induced fatalities excludes deaths from drunk driving, other accidents, and homicides committed under the influence of alcohol. If those numbers were included the annual toll of deaths directly or indirectly caused by alcohol would be closer to 90,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

I've always believed personally, that humans could use something, or...abuse something. Ever notice that coffee, carbonated soda and beer (alcohol bev.) were ALL designed to make you...want another one ? Think about that.

Merry Christmas and let's make the next one...a happy new year.

I concur, whole-heartedly. Having grown up with parents that were raging alcoholics (sort of ... I got shuffled around, a lot), I had a ring-side seat at the three-ring circus that is alcohol abuse.

An interesting note: the day of the year with the most DUI/DWI arrests? Thanksgiving.

Yea, I've been asked...so where's the love. I say, I LOVE pussy and I really love sex. I've got plenty love...plenty love.

That maybe directly resulting from the usual extra long weekend even though Friday after (black ?) is for some, just another excuse to get drunk, as if they need one. I am with you bro. My father, uncle and both brothers were/are raging alcoholics. Father finally did quit and his fucking cigars too at 72, got in 9 good years smoke free on water.

I am lucky, buy 6 Coronas and drink 4. (no lime) It's more a great beverage to me. Hard stuff...not at all. I have had 12 in the fridge for two weeks. I offer them to guests, safe in the knowledge they prefer their Blight. (bud light)

Have you ever noticed that there are only two brands of beer that come in a clear bottle?

Neither of you gets a cigar.

The answer is: "inattentiveness".

You go to mom and dad's house. You have a beer, a glass of wine. No big deal.

Then, you go to the outlaws' house. Another beer. Another glass of wine. You still might be okay depending upon weight/time.

Then, you meet up with your friends/contemporaries. A couple more beers or even mixed drinks.

With the DUI/DWI numbers so freakin' low and the non-attention to tolerance, you're over the limit and may not even know it.

Real0ne -> RE: Go easy on the egg nog, or punch or.....? (12/25/2015 9:46:44 AM)

its a combination of things. we all eat too much which makes you drowsy, then mix that with alcohol and high doses of tryptophan on top of that makes you even more drowsy all combined is like taking sleeping pills and then trying to drive, iz allzs I'm sayin.

Clear (and green) bottles don't protect the beer from UV light, leading to a higher risk of "skunky" beer. Brown bottles, however, block UV light, which is why most glass beer bottles are brown. So, in essences, yes, they did have something to hide, and it was their beer, from UV light.

Well in a ddition to the fact that I was joking.....

?? Your link clearly states that it was in fact that...'scientists discovered that Ultra Violet rays from the sun break down the alpha acids in hops which then react with the sulfur present in beer to form a chemical that is almost identical to the chemical that skunks use to spray predators. Those damn UV rays.'

Brown before the war green before and after the war and then brown again. Now there's protection. Beer purity was very important...couldn't trust the water which is why the Mayflower had to pull over and make a beer run. And also why 'beer saved the world.'

from your link:

Why the green beer bottle then? Green beer bottles offer very little protectionfrom the sunlight. Though, slightly more than a clear bottle, it does not help protect from UV as much as one might want.

normal people would interpret the italicized parts and especially the last part as meaning the uv light still can ruin the product and therefore its roughly accurate to say "green bottles don't protect the beer from uv light."

"perhaps you should get an adult to explain it to you?"

But obviously it did protect the beer some, and 'more than the clear bottle' just not as much as brown which were rationed due to war. So obviously then, you are not one of those adults.

Notice the green allows only a little more than brown on the spectrum protecting beer up to 400 nm where 370-390 nm is the most damaging range. Beck's, Heineken, St. Pauli's Girl, and Stella are all among the highest selling imports in the US with green bottles. HERE

Corona is now the highest selling import in the US with...a clear bottle. So what the fuck ? HERE

In my view and for my palate, Corona is...the best fucking beer made...NO lime.

call it a gradation in terms of how we view the word protection. you appear to want to it to mean slow down the harmful effects. I want it to mean, prevent them (which is more or less the definition).

I get that the green bottle offers some protection, but if it doesn't protect it to the point of actually preventing the skunkiness that is the effect of uv light on the product (which I take to mean was desideri's point), the further protection of a green bottle over a clear bottle notwithstanding, then its roughly correct to say "it doesn't protect it."

to that point:

quote:

actually, your "little more" is arbitrary, but more importantly, the chart in the link you shared supports my case. notice that the brown bottle, if your chart is actually speaking to the issue, blocks the harmful light completely at what you are saying is the most harmful range. that is, it protects the product the way I am understanding the word protect. it doesn't slow the evolution to skunkiness down, it prevents it from happening.

we as people have a choice of interpreting things in such a way that gives others the benefit of the doubt, and we do well as people to actually look for those ways (and that's not to say I always succeed at that)---as opposed to looking for "reasons" or opportunities to insult.

for the most part, the genesis of my post was Thompson's berating and belittling practically everyone he replies to.

I am an adult so I will explain it to you and any other dumbass who refuses to read anything that does not agree with their preconcieved notions of reality.

"glass suppliers are able to apply clear, UV protected coats to glass that help keep beer fresh no matter what kind of bottle it is in."
