LadyPact -> Did anyone else get this? (12/25/2015 3:14:37 PM)

I know. Everyone will think that I'm foolish for posting this.

Has anyone else recently received one of those 'someone else tried to access your PayPal account' form letters? I know it's that time of year and all but I thought it a bit odd.

yes LP, I got one and I found it rather strange, because I don't HAVE a paypal account. I also get similar letters/e-mails from various banks that I don't have accounts with either.

I got one saying something similar. Had a ton load of spelling mistakes lol

Ah. Good, good. Better to know, yes?

Glad to know I can blow it off as something silly. [:)]

I nearly screwed up with one though. It was from the superranuation department of ASIO and I didn't bother to read the first bit, thought the second part ( ASIO) was a hoax and was about to delete it when for some reason I had second thoughts, because the government department I used to work for was a department of ASIO. Anyway, I contacted them via a different e-mail address and they told me that changes had been made and yes, it was from them and they sent me a form to fill in, which I duly did. Lo and behold I got an early Christmas gift of $3800 and I am still wondering why ? I'm not going to ask them though. They may figure out they have made a mistake *smile*.

Well, I'm certainly not going to say that I would mind anyone showering me with an extra $3800.00. If the government would like to send me an extra bit, I'm rather sure there are some charities in the area that could make use of a little extra scratch. It wouldn't bleed my heart if Uncle Sam wanted to send me a check.

Yer, I've had a few 'confirming my purchase' as well. Purchases I hadn't made. I just check my PayPal and if the transaction isn't in there I disregard the email. I assume the links in the email are phishing scams, so I always go to PayPal through my own means.

You should forward the scam email to "[email protected]".

Ive got them, over the years, a few times, most get sent directly to my spam folder, but you can test the link they sometimes put in to go to"their' page, its never what it shouldbe. ie https://www.paypal.com.
if the link reads without the https its worthless. also it usually has extra words or a 2 letter code instead of com...ie .ru, or ia or any other combination

I don't think you are foolish. In fact I am happy you posted this. I haven't gotten one but I did recently start using paypal and it's nice to know ahead of time, what to look for. Thanks for the headsup [:)]

Basically never follow a link in a mail you are sent, open a new browser window and log in through the official site, the links they are sending tend to look like the official page, but obviously aren't, the scammers get your PW this way. PP has everything on the official page

LadyPact -> RE: Did anyone else get this? (12/27/2015 7:01:56 AM)

It's funny because that pay pal account is one that I haven't used in years. That's why I thought it was odd from the beginning.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the helpful tips.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Did anyone else get this? (12/27/2015 7:55:39 AM)

What tends to happen is that somebody's email or PP was breached (usually because they used the same PW they used on another site or logged in via an unsecure connection, airport, cafe, etc) and that is how the scammers get your email from their contact details

I've personally got my paypal account hacked before, and I found out through receiving emails of a whole list of expenditures I never made, also all expenditure were made in Malaysia, which I was not there during that period, this idiot even use my paypal account buy movie tickets to watch movies.

Fortunately, my credit card company was super cool and just refunded me everything without question.

I made a police report, sent my police report to paypal, and paypal refunded the bank.

I was surprise how easy it was to get refunded. I'm still a big fan of paypal, I use it to pay everything. I've made purchases in ebay and amazon where I never got my goods. And paypal, always just refunds me when I complain.

MrRodgers -> RE: Did anyone else get this? (12/31/2015 12:42:33 AM)

I don't have Paypal as I don't trust it and it seems...for good reason.

But I like the email and snail mail I get that says "Here is the information you requested." Not very original by now but it got to a point where these efforts suggested I spent my days doing nothing but...requesting information. When found in my mail box, I cringe at all of those trees cut down, just to make them.
