*The attorney general of New York, which reaps billions from gambling — casinos, off-track betting, the state lottery — moved to extinguish (competition from) fantasy football because it is gambling.

*Florida police raided a mahjong game played by four women aged between 87 and 95 because they allegedly were playing the game for money.

*A Michigan woman was fingerprinted, had her mug shot taken and was jailed until released on bond because she was late in renewing the $10 license for her dog.

*New Jersey police arrested a 72-year-old retired teacher, chained his hands and feet to a bench and charged him with illegally carrying a firearm — a 300-year-old flintlock pistol (with no powder, flint or ball) he purchased from an antique dealer.

*Since federal food police dictated changes in school lunch programs, food tossed in the trash is up 56 percent, salt shakers are being smuggled into schools, and there are black markets in potato chips.

*The Internal Revenue Service persecutes (civil not criminal) conservative advocacy groups but does not prosecute IRS employees who are tax cheats: An audit revealed that over the past decade, the IRS fired only 400 of the 1,580 employees who deliberately violated tax laws, rather than the 100 percent required by law.

There's more and while some of it is a stretch, I liked these the most. Bye 2015.

Mahjong is a gateway game, leading to even more addictive games, like Hearts or Spades. In my area, it's been said that the underground Pinochle "club" that is ruining lives, and destroying families. The struggle is real.

What's truly surprising is that the Feds have taken some of the least enjoyed food, and made it worse. Thank God they are there to help ensure our kids are getting good nutrition.

Status: offline 		I heard that many years ago they arrested a few old geezers in Florida for playing pinochle for a penny a point. the game is generally played to 500 points, so the maximum amount of money in a 500-0 game would be five bucks.

But it is not the amount that counts, it is the letter of the law. remember ?

I would really like to find a poker game but don't have the money to spare. Jacks or better, buck ante and maybe a five buck limit. Maybe a two buck limit, depends.

But the door is closed.

And at the trial, which there would be with the pinocle game, my question to the arresting officer(s) would be "What evidence do you have that they were not actually gambling but using the coins as poker chips in a fake game because they just didn't own a poker chip set ?

What's more, I would go pro se, or at least fire my lawyer for the closing arguments and mention jury nullification.

Status: offline 		Well all of the unadulterated bullshit over gambling has even infected the military. No gambling on pool, so no 9 ball. You guess it, we gambled on 8 ball. Then on board ship, no poker. Yep, we gambled $/point on Spades.

I am and have been running for president of the US for the Bingo party and our/my policy is to make sure gambling on bingo, never becomes...regulated gambling. You see those $10-$15 coveralls are very important to our revenues and just think of all of the coffee shops and churches that depend on Bingo.

I'm pretty sure you're right, though, imo, every politician should oppose it as is. It needs tighter regulation to protect property rights of the innocent.

Status: offline 		I read there was a time in Miami when the cops just rounded up everyone and if they had more than $200 on them, confiscated it calling it drug money.

how many filed to get their money back and how much did it COST to get their mney back. If you had $200 and it cost $200 to file the suit or "appeal" or to "ask permiossion" to get YOUR money back, and they keep that fee, why bother ?

I have been to Florida and I thought it was a nice place to visit, but after meeting some people and watching their TV down there decided that it was not somewhere I ever want to live. Ad last time I was at a friend's place in Longwood, which is a really nice area. But still, just watching the local news turned me off.

Well unfortunately, this is one of those bipartisan affairs that needs to be reformed. Will wrote of a couple (mom& pop business) who had their bank account frozen because of a steady stream of deposits that were just under $10,000. (money laundering ?)

That arouse suspicion according to the govt, which seems unusual because they need not have been reported. Took years for them to get the govt. off their back. Meanwhile, their business folded. They were lucky being near retirement anyway but what if they had been younger ?

It's all getting out of hand and the courts need to be more circumspect in their sanctions.

When I was in school, lunch was cheap and tasty. They even sold ice cream deserts for cheap that were just like off the ice cream truck.

BTW congress for 2016 will be off 6-7 weeks prior to the election and 7-8 weeks during. That's about 4 mos. off between June and Dec. just because it is an election year. Tough job, getting what $175,000, $185,000 plus bennies, a year, for part time work.

Yes, the ice cream sammiches were the rage (and for good reason). My school lunches. however, were cheap and tasted like it. But, I was blessed with a stay-at-home mom that cooked 5-7 nights a week, and her creations were amazing, so my opinion may be somewhat skewed. lol
