CrappyDom -> S&M/BDSM play parties and the police (7/18/2006 9:38:47 PM)

Many states have large and quite public BDSM playspaces as well as groups that host parties.  I am curious about problems with law enforcement if any that have been prosecuted along the lines of prostitution or other sex crimes.  I am NOT interested in issues involving prodoms but with legitimate BDSM groups having parties in homes and or playspaces.

I am spoiled being in California where we have cities that shut down entire streets so we can have an S&M party with thousands of people but I realize other states might not be as free or gloriously liberal.

NOTE: I am specifically looking for clubs/spaces that allow intercourse and or oral sex.

I have not heard of any problems like that with local play clubs.  One of the local clubs also doubles as a goth club for younger folks.  This one serves liquor, which is not done at the other play clubs.

However, I also do not believe they will ever shut down a street in SW FL for a public play party.

Look up Attleborough (a.k.a. Paddleborough), Massachusetts. There was a police raid there some years back on a BDSM play party where the organizers were accused of running a house of prostitution.

Amayos, I lived up in that area when that happened.
It turned out to be just Police harrassment.
Let the Cops get their own beer!

Yup, and unfortunately it really shook up and shook down the scene there.  Howver, in the years since they seem to have rebounded with continued street fests and at least 2 public parties a month in the Boston area.

It also happened in Baltimore around 99 when a local peron took up a banner to freeze up a lot of the kink/sex fun in the area.  Luckily in the years since then, things have come back to pretty active life.

All of the groups I've been to their parties have had good and positive established relationships with the police.  NCSF offers courses and people to come to local areas to discuss these exact issues and how to work with the police, know the laws and try and make sure things are good so you won't get shut down.  Unfortunately, it doesn't take much to upset a lot of good work and good will.

Amayos, I see you live in Manchester. I lived in Hampton mostly for ten years and in Strafford.
Ever been to any parties in Newbury, Mass?

I've never known of such events in that location. Then again, I usually avoid parties like they are the plague.

There was a case in Cherry Hill NJ, we had a discussion of it here:
http://www.collarchat.com/m_9871/mpage_1/key_cherry%2Chill/tm.htm

But it was a private play party/dungeon.

CrappyDom -> RE: S&M/BDSM play parties and the police (7/19/2006 4:26:49 AM)

So far the most recent case was paddleborough in 2000, the Cherryhill case stems from a 1998 indightment following a drowning of a child at the party...so two cases so far.  Not exactly a crackdown...

sub4hire -> RE: S&M/BDSM play parties and the police (7/19/2006 7:53:42 AM)

Then look at Club X here in San Diego just a couple of year's ago.

We had a party busted in Lake Arrowhead about a year, year and a half ago for a ritual killing.  There was a breath play demo that was to take place.

Essentially any party that allows penetration and takes money for you to get in the door...even on a donation basis can be hit for prostitution.  It just depends on how well you work with the local authorities.  You can't just walk into a city anywhere and open up shop without doing your research.

CrappyDom -> RE: S&M/BDSM play parties and the police (7/19/2006 9:31:50 AM)

Again, the club X raid was based on the fact they sold tickets to the general public so that it was no longer a private event AND that raid happened before 2000 I think.

So, out of fifty states, god knows how many parties and play spaces, we have a miniscule amount of raids and most of those half a decade ago.

Statistically, this isn't a risk AND I think that because most of those raids ended up with all charges dropped, I think most LEA have lost most if not all interest in this.

We have an exotic erotic ball here in quiet Sacramento that is held at the state fair and I have seen full penetration there, lots and lots of oral sex, and they even have spanking booths and human petting zoos.

sub4hire -> RE: S&M/BDSM play parties and the police (7/19/2006 10:15:05 AM)

Then I urge you to look into the Palatial Mansion here just about 2-3 week's ago.  In Orange County.  No it wasn't busted.  Yet the owner closed up shop in quite the hurry.  Right after several other's closed up shop in the same hurry.
There are rumor's and such about drugs...etc going on.  Although, when you delve a bit deeper into it you'll find out it is going on today.
Club X was not prior to 2000.  I cannot tell you exactly when it was.  However..this is 2006 and I know it wasn't quite that long ago.
I believe it was 2001.  Though again I am not sure of specifics.
If you do a seach you will find a great many more, current raids.

sub4hire -> RE: S&M/BDSM play parties and the police (7/19/2006 10:19:00 AM)

Just typing in the word raid on the NCSF page.

http://www.ncsfreedom.org/Incident_response_2002.htmClubs
In 2002, there were several police raids against alternative sexual expression clubs, including a raid that resulted in the closure of Behind the Scenes, an SM club in Philadelphia, PA. In July, a raid against Club Zinc, a swing club in Atlanta, GA, resulted in the arrest of patrons who consulted with NCSF. Another lifestyle club in Connecticut was raided and closed in June because they were improperly located in a residential neighborhood. In Phoenix, AZ, NCSF worked with several swing clubs that continue to be threatened with closure because of overly-restrictive zoning laws.

*knocks on wood* ....Luckily, we've not had that problem here so far; however, our space has been open for less than a year. We have protocol in place to follow in case the police show up. We also have 'panic buttons' & cameras in the parking lot installed to give advance warning in the Gallery. Though anything can happen, I feel our director has done everything within his power to give us a sense of security there.
Hopefully, we'll never encounter anything like that.

Panic buttons sound like an excellent idea.  Not sure about camera's I think that could be considered an invasion of privacy.
I've been doing research for 10 years on how to open a dungeon and not get busted....good idea

enthralled -> RE: S&M/BDSM play parties and the police (7/19/2006 10:58:54 AM)

The cameras are outside in the parking lot, rules are no nudity in the parking lot, no scening or open display of toys .... there is a monitor at the front desk with different views from the cameras. It not only aids in seeing whos pulling into the parking space, but adds a safety element for those who may be leaving late at night and getting into thier cars alone or those outside smoking as well ... makes me feel much safer. I live in the middle of the Bible Belt.
I don't know if anyone could open a Public Club here without the Holy Rollers picketing.
We do have a LOT of "Gentlemen's Clubs" here though, strip clubs that are patronized by the locals and Golfers.
You know why Baptists don't like fucking?
It may lead to dancing!

LOL .... about like the Grand opening of Hustler Hollywood here .. of which I believe took place the same weekend and about a block away from where the Southern Baptists Convention was taking place???

Riiiiiight... and no District Attorney ever grandstands for re-election on a morality platform either.. certainly not in the Bible Belt.... nothing at all to worry about.[8|]

It really doesn't matter how many cases you provide for Crappy Dom, none of them count....his mind is firmly made up, and has no room for inconvenient facts...

If he didn't get busted, then  penetration in pay clubs must  be perfectly OK everywhere, and by rationalizing away all evidence to the contrary, he has proven his point....

Those who did get busted, or are worried about getting busted where they live, just aren't as statistically special as he  is, and are just prudes besides.

One more time..if money changes hands (whether you call it 'dues', or 'donations', or an 'escort rental'), and penetration occurs, that is plenty good enough for a prostitution charge..... which is one possible reason why some pay clubs have chosen to prohibit penetration.

God save them from being saved from themselves by Crappy Dom's Crusade to eradicate precautions over outmoded laws....[8|]
