For me, it depends on the context. Often, I may do it out of a creative itch - to test out new configurations, to follow a new tutorial or to play with new rope. Then on other occasions, it will be a means to an end when Master is interested.

OP hah sorry I was on my phone, didnt have the full time or capability to expand. Spellslave actually gave it up
It very much depends on context. I love rope, Im no expert, but Ive used self bondage to practise knots on myself, Im not a sub or maso but you dont have to be:) but I enjoy rope very much yes I have bottomed for a rope. As I am a fan of bondage with the right person. so it can work many ways, as long as you can get out on your own, why should it matter:)

Either can be. It depends on the person involved if this is sufficiently satisfying or not.

to me it is done to satisfy an urge to be constrained. it is done by self techniques in the absense of a Domme to perform the action.

many inovative methods have been developed to allow a person to be placed in self bondage for an extended time with an "automatic" way of being released after a set time. perhaps a key or cutting instrument is in a block of ice or an electronic release of a key or implement can be set up.

of course all this involves a lot of risk which just heightens the excitement.
