SavageFaerie -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 7:47:10 AM)

Living down in Texas 100+ is generally a typical summer. So you know what to expect. I try to stay out of it as much as possible.

Regarding Heat Waves. Back in 1980 Texas experienced a summer to end all. We had 80+ days of over 100 temps some days getting well over 110 with insane heat indexes. I lived in a house that had no A/C and just a couple of dry fans. I had to keep my little ones 6 months and 2 in a bathtub with one of the available fans on the water alot to keep them from suffering heat stroke.  Since then I have never handled heat as well.  The poorer people were dying by the handfuls because they had no resources to get fans or a/c, despite the community and officials literally giving them away.

So if you know of anyone especially those with children or elders, make sure they have at the very least a fan.  A few bucks out of your pocket could save a life. A random act of kindness is such a feel good thing.

Did you start this thread because you think that the ''heat'' might be responsible for getting to a few after reading the last few pages of your ''Blame Employers not Mexicans thread''? [8|]

It's been 85 - 90 with a cool breeze dipping in shortly before dusk - Nothing like the rest of the country.

It will be 106 today instead of 103. My head hurts and I was nauseous all night because the particulate matter in the air makes me sick when it stays this hot for days... I go onward and upward though, making my way to the gym shortly. I need to go back to Daddy's house by the ocean. It is sooo nice there

Arpig -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 8:07:20 AM)

High 30s here (not completely sure what that equates to in US degrees), so not really much of a heat wave.
At present it is 29, which is 84 your way, so its not bad at all [:)]. However, before I get to feeling all smug I will remind myself that in 4 months the situation will be reversed and many of you will still be on the beach while I am trying to shovel my way out of 3' of snow.

TheHouseOfHussey -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 8:09:08 AM)

I am jealous that you get to go to the ocean!!  I miss it since I used to go to Santa Cruz a lot. I don't get there much anymore since moving up to this hell pit, lol.

Enjoy the fresh, breezy, salty air!!  And take it easy on yourself at the gym.  We want you to keep breathing, you know [;)]

SpankMuhButt -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 8:37:34 AM)

its awful here too, Monday I had to make a trip into Manhatthan, luckily my dad felt bad for me and drove me there, then yesterday i did nothing but run around, everytime i got in my truck my steeringwheel was on fire, i would turn my aC on and by the time i got to my next destination it was just starting to cool off, by the time i came home last night, i was sooo fucking cranky everyone avoided me, i stood in the shower for half an hour, with cold water, i didnt answer my phone i didnt talk to anyone who lives here, i just wanted to be left alone lol. then they had the nerve to ask what we were eatting for dinner. i cant eat or cook for that matter in this heat, and my apt is nice and cool but the hell with that cooking, i ordered pizza lol

Alumbrado -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 10:47:39 AM)

Well, I was going to say everything was bearable here in the series of 100+ days we've had, when the power went out all over the neighborhood.

Now it's unbearable..

LOL!

perverseangelic -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 11:00:08 AM)

I thought I was getting used to hot weather, my 3rd summer in the California central valley. Of course, this year it's been record heat. Well above 100 just about every day last week. :( Normally we're really conservative about using the AC, but we've had it on almost all day for several days now, because its' impossible to function with it NOT on.

But then, we went to Nevada last week to visit my Owner's grandma, there it was well abovr 110, and stayed above 100 till after midnight. Ick.

pollux -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 12:56:40 PM)

You peeps need to move down to Florida, where it's cool.

popeye1250 -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 1:08:37 PM)

Here in Myrtle Beach, S.C. everyone it seems has central a/c and swimming pools with all the "new construction" here. Only a few "older" neighborhoods left.
I guess the people "down south" are used to the summer heat.
Funny though, I'll be wearing a t-shirt outside in December and they'll be wearing jackets!
Comming from New Hampshire I like the heat!

Controladora -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 2:10:13 PM)

Temp has lowered to high 80's in NYC today but its still humid.  Around 24,000 without power.

Controladora

SleeplessGypsy -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 3:25:35 PM)

Well.... It's fucking HOT! atleast 85 degrees... And i know thats not hot to a lot of you who swealter in 100+ weather, but for us here on the west coast near the Ocean, It's hotttt and muggy....

I work in a Restuarnat and when I opened up this morning the thermostat said 95 degrees... At 6:30 in the am FFS! It's not so much the heat, it's the humidity and the fact that when I'm overheated like that I always wind up getting a headache over my left eye..[sm=mad.gif]

LotusSong -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 4:06:09 PM)

I have the wonderful misfortune of having a thermometer readout in my vehicle.  While I was going down the  freeway on Saturday afternoon, it read 117.  Today it is 110.  Yup.  the heat is NOT my friend. I'm in hibernation until mid October.

popeye1250 -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 6:32:50 PM)

Lotus, 117 degrees!!!???
Now that  is *HOT!*
Do you stay in a lot? What do you do to keep cool?
You surely can't be out for long in heat like that!

caitlyn -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 6:48:39 PM)

Yeah, but it's a dry 117. [;)]

irishbynature -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 6:50:26 PM)

It's hot here.(mid 90's)...the humidity makes the pollution worse and tempers on the road flare more easiloy...including mine[;)]

popeye1250 -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 7:09:27 PM)

Caitlyn, LOL!
Irish, it was 95 here today too. The pool was nice but the water was too warm. A 50 pound bag of ice would make it better maybe.

Yes, I stay in alot.  I get as much things delivered to the house as I can.  Groceries nd  pet supplies, clothing.. the internet is a wonderful thing in that regard.  With my condition, I can just about seize  if I'm out in it too long.  I'm grateful I also have a husband that will run the necessary errands. I'm glad he finally saw the sence of  me getting a yard crew to take care of the outside.  The hottest I've ever experienced here is 122.

Majik -> RE: Is The Heat Wave Getting To You? (7/19/2006 7:50:29 PM)

As of today we have had 23 days of over 100. I've been in this area for 14 years and I have got to say this is one of the hottest summers I can remember. Weather man says we are in for a cool down by Saturday. We shall see.=]
