I may argue with most of your politics Phydeaux, but that is an immensely important article to read. I had absolutely no idea

Thanks mate. A side effect of three degrees, ADHD, and a lot of interests.

One thing I do want to emphasize:

Buried in the fine print of most teflon/no-stick pans is the disclaimer do not use on high heat. At temperatures of 400+ degrees - and stove top stoves can get to 500+ degrees - Teflon breaks down into some truly noxious compounds. And contrary to some, pfoa replacement products, while they are more biodegradable, they are also highly noxious.

Edited to give readers a link to Teflon Toxicosis: http://www.ewg.org/research/canaries-kitchen/teflon-offgas-studies

For the same reason - do not use plastics in a microwave. Do not subject plastics to boiling water. The incidence of cancer causing compounds increases 100x with the increase in temperature from room temp to boiling.

As a conservative, I am opposed to polluting the earth; I am opposed to tyranny, I am opposed to the government deprivation of freedom.

Oh this part is rich :

"DuPont reacted quickly, requesting a gag order to block Bilott from providing the information he had discovered in the Tennant case to the government. A federal court denied it. Bilott sent his entire case file to the E.P.A."

Request that the government block itself from getting information ? What planet do they think this is ?

T^T

.....a planet that if they don't quite yet own, one that they are continuing on their path toward purchase.

If you think Dupont is bad

Obama's appointee to the FDA from Monsanto ought to make you livid.

He's the guy who squished GMO testing;
he's the guy that squished GMO labelling;
He's the guy that confiscated independent research on the effects of roundup on bees

Look it up sometime.

In the 1970s; it was found that frying in a Teflon coated pan would leave 1-2 parts per million of CF4 (Carbon Tetraflouride) in the oil. My sophmore chemistry class in college duplicated the test after the article came out in American Laboratory.

DuPont re-formulated their Teflon coating for cookware but I tossed the Teflon cookware I had and have never bought another one. I don't want even traces of a very powerful organic solvent in my food.

Long live my cast iron!

I do not actually use cast iron sauce pans. But many other pans are.

Seems they made a movie about this. Can't remember when or who stared in it. Might be a similar case. Not sure. Unfortunately, litigation is about the only way to go. What I don't understand is why OSHA doesn't go after this type of organization as well using the general duty clause and PEL/UEL specific limits. EPA doesn't usually do jail time, but OSHA regulations allow for it under the Be a Manager Go to Jail clause. There are cases where being a manager goes all the way down to leadworker.

The "Be a Manager Go to Jail" is as far as I know technically a California label but the concept applies elsewhere

I am going to look for it but he also appointed an Information Czar to look into appropriate censorship where it might be required. I'll get back on that.

It's all over. On the board of directors of Memorial Sloan Kettering is a board member from Bristol-Meyers, the Co. that make 40 cents of every dollar of profit on chemotherapy.

There is actually a book on this that made the NY Times best seller list.. regulating the FDA, doctoring the FDA...can't remember the title.
