Phydeaux -> Soc-r Update (1/16/2016 11:44:24 PM)

I rarely pull out my dusty old trident, but in this case, here goes. I was a Navy SEAL officer in the 1980s, and this kind of operation (transiting small boats in foreign waters) was our bread and butter. Today, these boats both not only had radar, but multiple GPS devices, including chart plotters that place your boat's icon right on the chart. The claim by Iran that the USN boats "strayed into Iranian waters" is complete bull$‪#‎it.

For an open-water transit between nations, the course is studied and planned in advance by the leaders of the Riverine Squadron, with specific attention given to staying wide and clear of any hostile nation's claimed territorial waters. The boats are given a complete mechanical check before departure, and they have sufficient fuel to accomplish their mission plus extra. If, for some unexplainable and rare circumstance one boat broke down, the other would tow it, that's why two boats go on these trips and not one! It's called "self-rescue" and it's SOP.

This entire situation is in my area of expertise. I can state with complete confidence that both Iran and our own State Department are lying. The boats did not enter Iranian waters. They were overtaken in international waters by Iranian patrol boats that were so superior in both speed and firepower that it became a "hands up!" situation, with automatic cannons in the 40mm to 76mm range pointed at them point-blank. Surrender, hands up, or be blown out of the water. I assume that the Iranians had an English speaker on a loudspeaker to make the demand. This takedown was no accident or coincidence, it was a planned slap across America's face.

Just watch. The released sailors will be ordered not to say a word about the incident, and the Iranians will have taken every GPS device, chart-plotter etc off the boats, so that we will not be able to prove where our boats were taken.

The "strayed into Iranian waters" story being put out by Iran and our groveling and appeasing State Dept. is utter and complete BS from one end to the other.

MrRodgers -> RE: Soc-r Update (1/17/2016 7:03:06 AM)

WE need a state dept. declaration about Americans going to and getting out of Iran and with that, time to put our foot down as required and try convince them what's in the past should stay there if they want a new future.

If they do not change now, with Americans out of Iran, then the next admin. can and should re institute financial sanctions and tell the Iranians that our militaries will have to engage in the future if this behavior continues. It is unfortunate but that in fact it may be all that they really do understand as long as Iran is a ruthless theocracy.

Really? Were you there at the time? They were completely innocent and its the evil Iranians whom are at fault? A pair of spec op boats full of spec op guys just out for a boating trip to fish, right? With more firepower than a platoon of US soldiers. Were they hunting Kaiju?

Where is your evidence?

That is the problem you have here. Anyone can say anything when they dont have evidence. Unfortunately when making an argument and accusing someone of wrong doing; it becomes a major requirement.

You can say anything you want on how those boats were created. I can state one fact: They were made by the lowest common bidder.

BTW, your not a US NAVY SEAL. You might want to make that understood here. The article you linked, talks about an individual that is a US NAVY SEAL.

The State Department already has one. It is up to both nations to keep the past in the past and not use it as an excuse for future aggression. So long as Iran has oil, and the world needs oil; there will be problems.

The next administration can not do this. Not even with an executive order. This country made a treaty with Iran not to long ago. Going back on it for internal political reasons would call *ALL* our other treaties we have outstanding with *ALL* nations of the world to be called into question and doubt. You would so readily defeat our credibility or something so petty? Good thing your not a diplomat.

How would you feel if the Iranians had a navy deployed off our coastline with enough nuclear firepower to destroy the whom nation? Would you want our navy to keep them in check? That is what the Iranians are doing. You want to keep pushing tension buttons? Then we'll have the same problems with the nation as we have had for decades. We keep giving them reasons to distrust our intentions, and they'll secretly develop a nuclear weapon. Then, we'll have to deal with them in a whole new and unpleasant manner. You want that? That is what the chicken-hawks in the GOP want!

Most likely, those soldiers on those boats, if there intentions were not out 'hunting for Kaiju' would be to look at a location to see if it was in violation of a section of the treaty. To break a treaty and remain honest and credible, we need evidence. Not just flimsy but complete and full of wrong doing. Then, we hand the information to our diplomats whom handle things correctly. We do *NOT* give it to Senate Republicans. They have shown how 'diplomatic' they can be with regards to Iran (and Iran laughed at them).

To do otherwise now is to perpetuate belligerence and violence. Yes, the Shah was a SOB but believe it or not. I have personal knowledge that it was under the Shah that Iran fully developed into a late 20th century civilized country with a growing middle class.

DAMN SKIPPY!

Being the greatest terrorist regime the planet has ever seen means never having to say you're sorry.

Phydeaux -> RE: Soc-r Update (1/17/2016 10:26:11 PM)

Yeah - being *for* womens rights, gay rights, freedom of religion, democracy.. makes you a terrorist.

If you think the US is a terrorist state - go live somewhere else.

Nothing comrade...I just find it very funny that some shit eating dog claims to be a seal.

Yeah - being *for* womens rights,

Something like 150 years from the fouding until women could vote...you mark yourself a fool and a liar once again

gay rights,

Something only just achieved with the gay marriage laws after some 240 years ...you mark yourself a fool and a liar once again

freedom of religion,

With the calls for making muslims wear distinctive signage...you mark yourself a fool and a liar once again

democracy..

You have often reminded this board that this is a republlic and not a democracy...you once again mark yourself a fool and a liar.

makes you a terrorist.

Actually bombing soverign nations back into the stone age and waging wars of aggression make one a terrorist. You once again mark yourself a fool and a liar.

If you think the US is a terrorist state - go live somewhere else.

Fools and liars would repress those who would seek to exercise their constitutional right to object.
Thank you comrade for putting the bell on the cat... so to speak.

My guess is that he is having trouble believing Phydeaux's claim to be a SEAL during the 80s. I'd also venture a guess that he is far from alone in his skepticism.

He will be along shortly to play the victim... that nobody read the link.
Prefacing a story or an article is smart as a thread starter.
sadly...oopth.

I have no expertise but there is no doubt something stinks here... there is more to the story. But saying that does not mean there is a political bone to pick.

What is more amusing is that public school education you are so proud of, leaving you unable to note that the words are a cited quotation.

Phydeaux -> RE: Soc-r Update (1/18/2016 12:31:49 PM)

To the contrary. It merely succinctly makes the point that thompson doesn't bother to read posts, find something to fasten on something and let loose the rabid slobbering invective..

He looks like an idiot, and I am well satisfied with the results.

Do you recall my recent post with tj where here Michael Moore quote said you're poisoning the babies? And tj said they're not her words. .. blah blah blah

Bit inconsistent aren't you.
