My Dad just called to check on us. (It's what parents do, no matter how old you get.) He's only a few hours north of here and he said they didn't get a single flake. I'm kind of glad to hear it so I know he won't be shoveling snow.

On the other hand, my brother got hit just as hard as we did. He lives in the DC area.

I do apologize once more for my faulty calculations.

The storm I had arranged was supposed to drop a total of 3 feet of snow across every where north of a line based on the red river, with repeats every 4 days for the next 30 years, with an accompanying global temp drop of 10 degrees annually.

How else am I gonna make a profit on my investments in the winter sports industry.

And then you folks go and complain, you folks bitch about it being too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter.

At least I have given up on trying to have comets hit the planet on an annual basis.

Not rubbing it in, believe me, but I thought I would share the Smithsonian vid clip with one of their pandas playing in the snow...
It wont help but it might make you smile

And tonight's news said there's a chance for another coastal storm coming in Thursday. Fingers crossed it stays out to sea.

FR

Reports say that Jonas is on its way over the Atlantic to us here in the UK. However, in the process, the winds will drop and the air will warm up. Result: gales and rain. So no change to our current weather, basically.

I was reading an article yesterday about how dangerous it can be to shovel snow. Seriously: it causes heart attacks in large numbers.

It's pretty much a given that someone will die of a heart attack shoveling snow when the first storm hits.

And that someone will die in a traffic accident because he/she won't slow down in the bad weather.

Here's one: http://health.clevelandclinic.org/2015/02/snow-shoveling-a-real-risk-for-heart-attack/

Excerpt:

"Doctors advise against shoveling if you are older, have heart disease or think you might. “Shoveling snow is hard work,” says Cleveland Clinic cardiovascular surgeon A. Marc Gillinov, MD, co-author of the hit book Heart 411. “People who have coronary artery disease should not perform strenuous shoveling of snow. It can trigger a heart attack.”

The cold temperatures also increase the risk for heart attack because the arteries constrict and this increases blood pressure."

... Shovelling snow is unusually hard work, especially on the upper body, for people who are generally sedentary. To be done only with a lot of caution.

Somebody died from turning on her car to stay warm while not realizing the exhaust pipe was packed full of snow. Carbon monoxide poisoning.

*Shudder*. Actually, I can imagine that being a very easy oversight to make.

There was a story out there this morning about a woman and her child dying in the car, while the husband cleared the car of snow..took about three minutes, tragic:(

DesFIP -> RE: Winter Storm Jonas (1/28/2016 11:49:07 AM)

Years ago, we hit a pothole on the beginning of a three hour drive home. It cracked the tailpipe and allowed CO fumes into the car. My ex was a smoker and kept opening his window. Without that we all would have died. The kids and I slept for hours after getting home and we all had the worst headaches the next day. It wasn't until the next day that we realized what the problem was.

Since then, I'm really anal about getting the exhaust system checked after any kind of damage.
