American astronomers say they have strong evidence that there is a ninth planet in our Solar System orbiting far beyond even the dwarf world Pluto.
The team, from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), has no direct observations to confirm its presence just yet.
Rather, the scientists make the claim based on the way other far-flung objects are seen to move.
But if proven, the putative planet would have 10 times the mass of Earth.

As far as I'm concerned, Pluto will always be a planet.

Ergo, there are 9 planets in our solar system regardless of the discovery of a 10th.

Scorpios will not be left without a ruling planet, without having to share Mars with Aries. Hell to the NO.

Maybe Scorpio's ruling planet has always been this hidden giant and it's only now coming out of the shadows. That would fit!

Yeah, some of us (myself excepted, of course) be devious like dat.

We need another feminine-named planet. I nominate the Queen of Hades Proserpina - the Greek Goddess Persephone - who was Pluto's wife.

Btw, her alter ego the other half of the year was that of Kore, Goddess of the Spring.

We have enough freaking planets named for greek/roman gods (okay granted, they probably discovered them) but at this point, it is time for another mythos to be heard from.

How about Dagda?

Or the green man?

The Greek/Roman centric solar system must end!

And as for dwarf psuedo planet wannabes, Pluto fits its namesake, a two bit wuss that had to use blackmail to get a girl. No wonder he reigns in the underworld. He probably fucks his three headed dog cause Persephone wont let the ballless wonder near her.

Regardless of nomenclature of so called tenth planet, and regardless of its alleged mass, if it's beyond pluto, it will be way too cold for any type of human habitation unless it's close to another star like our sun which would warm it up. And what atoms comprise its atmosphere?

Uh, if it is a rocky planet, it might be good for a winter's sports venue?

I read a bit of a weird book recently called "Firefall". It prompted me to have a look at some of the theories regarding any still undiscovered planets. From memory I think my verdict was 'unlikely', but it would be cool though. The book was a Sci-Fi about contact with a huge extraterrestrial space ship or life form (still unclear what exactly it was lol) that was using the fictional undiscovered planet to gestate (for lack of a better word)... Did I mention the book was weird lol? The story also played around with possible effects of extreme electromagnetism on the human brain, which prompted me to do a search for 'Grey Syndrome', a term used interestingly in the book. I wont spoil anything if anyone wanted to read it for themselves. I'd recommend it if you like pseudo-technical Sci-Fi /Horror.
And vampires! @_@

I did at the end of my thread @dreamlady add in Dwarf world the brazen cheeky beggers-article scribblers; Tis a geological wonder, and more noble of a status of gnome. Tenth I agree. overlooking Ceres - which put Pluto status in jeopardy - and all otherDwarf Planets. Actually its the same astronomer (in part).

Existence of a companion star, Red Dwarf, brown dwarf, giant Jupiter has been in and out of fashion the last 0-200 years. I have read many fiction(ish) books on such matters, excluding Zecharia Sitchin, @cell...no doubt his followers said told you so irrespective of the time frame for the end times..albeit the earth has been here 4.5 billion years so there have been no end times, so to speak...The great dying being the closest Permian–Triassic extinction even, or the hypothetical Theia

that aside the moon still puzzles me and I have always viewed moon-earth as A double Planet system

Well, many have postulated that the asteroid belt [debris] between Mars and Jupiter is evidence of a shattered planet from ancient of days, perhaps having been hit by a comet-asteroid.
The name of Vulcan,* the Blacksmith God of Fire and Venus's consort, had been proposed for this once extant planetary orb.

I have to say, you are a fascinating man, in an eccentric sort of way.<= (your Chardonnay)

* Edit - A more modern deity name-recycling than that of 19th-century French mathematician Le Verrier's hypothetical planet Vulcan, which had been theorized as orbiting nearest to the Sun due to Mercury's orbital peculiarities, and then subsequently disproven.

Not likely. The next nearest star is Alpha Centauri 4 light years away compared to our sun 9 light-minutes away. if I recall correctly that computes to 26 trillion miles vs. 93 million miles.

If true, maybe that is where we will find the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot, Amelia Earhart, and Jesus.
