ORIGINAL: Cinnamongirl67 Your problem is you think all whites came here privileged, and if you were a student who wasn't prejudice against only looking for your white sucks card, you would be aware many whites came here poor and were enslaved themselves. We rose to the occasion. Your turn! You can live in the past and be a royal crybaby. I give you that award. My family doesn't cry about the past, I suggest you stop using your excuse and move forward and do something other then cry about the past of the actions of SOME whites. And if I were as you say I wouldn't be a "non-traditional" student in my last year of college of a 4-year bachelors degree in business design at My age (48).. I help poor women and minorities keep their jobs by helping them to keep their cars running when they can't afford a regular mechanic, hell I even occasionally help the occasional poor white guy. so madam, Im part of the solution while u sit in fantasy land. So you can keep, sit and spin on your damned award. I don't live in the past, unlike you I know what the past is, and I don't ignore it. you chafe at the idea that I remind your race of how foolish, mean-spirited, and downright destructive it's been, because if you don't learn from your past mistakes you are doomed to repeat it. (I believe a white man said that at some point too.) You went to college to be a mechanic ? The race card doesn't work with me. If you went to college AT ALL you were more priveleged than me. Shit like that was never in our budget. And back then, grants and scholarships were only given out to very few, and to Blacks to "even it out" or whatever. And where would you be right now if you were still in Africa ? What do you think ? would you have built up that society so well you would be better off there than here by now ? And we owe you because we kept you away from that important task ? Tell me. Really, tell me. Tell me how you benefitted this country by building our roads and bridges. You did not. Tell me how you made life better here. Other people WILLINGLY signed themselves into slavery (indentured servitude) just to get here. Tell me how you benefitted us better than they. The main problem is that it was not voluntary and that is wrong. But who were the slave traders ? Who ? You don't even fucking even know. You don't even know who bought you from your brothers and sold you to our dumbass fucking hillbillies with farms who actually got fucked on the deal. I do my best not to be racist but I don't do the White guilt thing. I got nothing to be guilty about. My people weren't even here for this shit. Blame a race ? What do you have to say about what YOU did to Chicago and Detroit ? See what I mean ? You didn't do that. Well neither did I. T^T no,... I'm going to college so I can quit being a mechanic.... Or at least stop doing it full-time. Privilege my ass. I will be paying on student loans until I kick the bucket. Seriously? Take another look at going back if you want - its well worth it. You shouldn't have to do your best not to be racist, I shouldn't have to do that either. What you and I should be doing is working toward the goal of "no such thing as privilege " - no white privilege, Black privilege, or some funny looking shade of chartreuse privilege. No "glass ceiling" for anybody, anybody doing the same job should get the same pay. the content of your character and your skill set should be the determining factor for what job you get, not what color, sex or sexual orientation you are. That should be the whole point about talking about the past. The lessons learned should fuel a brighter future because we will all figure out that nobody should have privilege the OP feels he has. (Unless it's consensual....)
