quote:
ORIGINAL: betataster I would have thought it's pronounced the same as Dom but I heard a video greeting where the Domme pronounced it with two syllables. There is no accent acute on the "e" and so pronouncing the word as if there were, is an affectation. This word would also have to get spelled with an extra "e" at the end (Dommée), which it isn't. ET and stef are referring to the feeble attempt of a few to further Frenchify this feminized version of the nickname for Dominant, which results in sounding like "dummy" instead. [&o] Can you imagine female submissives referring to themselves as "sub-bay" (subbée) in order to Frenchify-feminize an affectation for themselves? HINT: They don't like being called "subbie" as it is. Some male subs don't mind it, though. The term "Domina" is the female form of "Dominus" in Latin, and therefore means Mistress as an honorific. . . but it is also the title for the head of a nunnery. You will run across Domina used more often in the context of a Sensual Domina or an Erotic Domina, which may or may not include sensual/sexual sadism. (It doesn't with me, and I think of myself a Sensuous Domina, since sensuous combines the meaning of both sensual and erotic.) DreamLady
