This is what the Macedonian President Ivanov actually said:
" Look at these passports and papers. They are all forged or stolen. We have already seized 9,000 of them. Some so-called refugees are travelling through the whole of Europe with false identities, and Greece is simply stamping their papers so that they continue on their journey.

We have to assume that many of these people who were travelling with forged papers want to enter the EU via the refugee route as radical fighters."

The assumption is that allegedly forged papers = jihadi. The tone of the interview suggests that the Macedonians would be mollified if the EU threw some cash their way.

So we left with a rather dubious self-serving claim to buttress up a demand for cash. Nothing to see here, move on.

Given the political and social realities of Syria and most other conflict areas (Anything near the IS) in the Near East, anyone with legal papers is of the small number of favored insiders who Aren't likely refugees, but comfortable tourists arriving at main airports? The 'wrong' Muslims, Christians and despised minor religions are lucky to get out with some concealed money enough to Buy fake papers, and their lives. Those in rebel areas have no access to legal passports, nor would the Syrian govt. allow either their possession or use by 'insurgents' and 'rebels', who want out instead of supporting the regime. Libya to Sudan and south, maybe worse?
Given the actual demographics of the refugees (Largely children and families) the mythical young adult male Jihadist mass influx is a creation of Right Wing US and European paranoia. Keep making the experience of the escaping young really terrible, and again, the Western Powers will create mass radicalization where it didn't exist before. Same as with Guantanamo Bay, enthusiastic weaponized drone use and the CIA secret prisons.

The demographic figures you are alluding to are bullshit. These are people that are registered in camps in Egypt, Jordan , Lebanon, Turkey etc. True that those refugees are mostly families etc.

But the actual people walking/boating to europe are overwelmingly young males.

From the UN committee on Refugees:
figures for refugees and migrants who have tried to enter Europe by crossing the Mediterranean Sea. There have been more than 400,000 such “sea arrivals” in 2015, and 51 percent are Syrian. The rest have come mainly from nine other countries. Most of these refugees and migrants have been men — 72 percent — but these are not figures on Syrian refugees or even solely the 200,000-some Syrians who have been willing to take some type of boat to reach Europe by sea.

While the numbers are out of date - the eventual numbers were over 1.1 million, the demographics are not.

Macedonia hasn't really been a power since Alexander. I wonder how they know they are jihadists. I don't know if the movie Casablanca has been translated to Macedonian, has it?

They have an intelligence budget we don't have or what?

That's entirely to be expected, surely? The fittest and strongest pioneer the new situation; the rest of the family follow. Isn't that how the West was Won, etc? Etc?

Myself, if I felt that my family needed urgently to get out of the UK, and assuming that there was at least a little time, I'd pretty much insist on going first in order to set up a safe place for the rest of my family to get to later. I'd shrink in horror at the thought of my wife, children - and even worse, my aged parents - taking that first godawful trip with me.

I might be a lefty, but I do have *some* good old traditional values that I * know* you'll support, Phydeaux.
