The whole American (and western) political diaspora is supposed to be dumbed down and with the bar so lowered since 2000 and maybe even 1980...this becomes the new normal.

In 1965, the average American newspaper used a lexicon of around 400,000 words. By 2000, that had fallen to as low as 225,000 words in some areas. Today, many papers use a lexicon of as few as 150,000 words in an effort to avoid alienating less educated readers.

My journalism prof.... while she lamented the "dumbing down of the US in an effort to better control the electorate." While I agree what's coming out of high school today doesn't compare favorably to what came out 25 years ago, I'm not QUITE cynical enough to believe that's the reason.

She also pointed out that what constitutes "news" has devolved to include more gossip and less international news, as well as a complaint that whole of the 5th estate is now ruled by ratings and sound bytes rather than integrity and investigation. THOSE points I can't argue with!

It's true, Trump speaks in a strange way. The way he phrase things.

But at the same time. Anybody public speaking should make his messages as simple and easily understandable as possible. They would reach out to more people.

Making it refine and complicated just only cater to the more educated bunch of people. Doesn't make sense. You need votes from everyone.

Like for example WickedDesire, if you ran for President and speak like you write! I think half the world won't understand you! Hehe don't know if you got a thick brogue as well which make it worst.

I have not read the thread, but I stopped by to say this :

The OP posts things that are near nonsense. Worded wrong or whatever. I almost want to say flippant.

If anyone should understand those who misspeak, it should be him. But the old double standard always applies doesn't it ?

Your linguistic limitations are well documented.
