Many accounts with the same opening - 3/22/2016 5:30:33 PM

Status: offline 		I've noticed recently that an amazing number of accounts that I've come across normally have the sentence "A friend told me about this site so I figured I'd check it out" somewhere in their opening paragraph. I apologize to those who have that in their profile but I was just curious if this sounds like something connected to fake profiles. Besides that one sentence, each profile seems personally crafted and many even say they've already found somebody, but I legit looked at 9 profiles in a row that all had that same line.

As far as your post, I don't know if there's any correlation between having the same statements on profiles and being fake. The longer you're here, the easier it will be to spot most of them. On a free sexually-based website, you tend to get all kinds, and not all of them good.

Status: offline 		Oh, I wasn't judging honestly. I don't think it's something silly to put in a profile, I was just surprised when I saw so many profiles back-to-back-to-back with that same line. Probably just a coincidence. Thanks again!

Status: offline 		I can't tell you if it's a coincidence, trend, or any other thing. However, even when I see the "a friend recommended this site" thing in Introductions, my first thought tends to be that they aren't much of a friend.

Don't get me wrong. I know a number of folks have met people from this site and formed long term relationships. Still, let's face it. The site has a terrible reputation in the real time kink community. The next time you're at your local munch, ask the fellow attendees just how many of them are still active here. You'll find the number to be very low. On the other hand, you'll find at least ninety percent of them will have a Fet account.

Status: offline 		I admit I can't speak for the entire U.S.A. or the rest of the world, but Fetlife is considered in the Philadelphia area to be the major social network for kink and CollarMe/CollarSpace has been relegated to the list of dead or dying sites along with Alt and a few others.

Status: offline 		I might be missing something on how to use the Fetlife site but I don't see it as very useful as a dating site, a place to meet someone to develop a relationship with. I think it is a great site for folks already in the life to network but it's has limited use, to me at least, as a place more like POF or OKcupid for someone looking for a relationship. I can find "kinksters near me", but I can't search by sex, age, or what they're looking for. At least this site has the potential to be useful to me and I've found a lot of potential partners here.

Sadly what you say about Fetlife is true.

Fetlife is all a bit too Facebook for my liking. A great place for niche interests or linking up with people you already know. If I want Facebook, I can use Facebook. If I want to meet people locally, I can leave the house and actually do it. If I want somewhere to meet people who are already my friends, it is fine, but it is full of fairly closed groups where strangers are often distinctly unwelcome.

Whatever the future, at least CM/CS still offers a place to have your views challenged by people you otherwise wouldn't meet. That's always what I valued about the internet to start off with. I prefer that to using social networking as a more convenient way to stay in touch with people close to you - the people you should be offering real human contact to by getting up off your arse and calling them, visiting or going out together.

I'm still sorry that Informed Consent disappeared in the UK - the stated reason being the supposed relevance of Facebook and Fetlife to what people wanted. Okay it's a bit of a love-hate relationship, but for all its issues a site like CS, which still offers a place where everyone can meet and exchange views seems something worth having.

While its primary role is social networking and not dating, there are many groups within its structure designed to help you find local people who want to meet, date, play what have you. I find it to be a pleasant UI/UX and by removing the ability to search by gender/age/preferences I've found my self in conversations with people that normally wouldn't have made a blip on my radar.

So, just like a kinky version of Facebook really. Social networking first, with dating being a feature if you want it to be but not a priority. It's the main reason I use the site.
