There's a (very) old saw in the news business: "If it bleeds, it leads." Horrible, but true.

More to your whole point: For quite some time, now, the news has been transforming into entertainment.

Sometime in the late 80s or early 90s, some boneheaded network news exec decided that their news division was an un-exploited cash cow and the game was afoot.

It's a damned shame that journalism has become what it is, but there's a couple of different factors involved. There's a good article about it here (Notice the article is almost 20 years old).

Unfortunately, mainstream media is totally engrossed in this practice, now and even the "old reliable" outlets have joined the fray. I've heard some outrageously insane crap that HAD to be aired to get ratings on NPR. NPR, for goodness' sake!

... and so it goes.

Roone Arledge is the guy you're thinking of, when as executive of ABC sports, he became executive of news, the whole shebang now under the umbrella of ABC's 'entertainment' division.

At the time, that knocked me off my chair, too. What a world. But now it's 'normal.' All about the business, and that's advertising, and video clips of people screaming in agony does the job better in attracting audience, so they estimate. End of story.

Don't say that we, as 'the populace,' are entirely with out blame. Just turn that crap off!

Oh, and NPR ...

Fuckwits united (FU) would be a more appropriate moniker. And not because they are "too liberal," but that they just won't STFU and play music sometimes, like they used to. Bitch about Rush, then turn into a talk radio station.

Just a gradation of rock that includes 2 inch rock and crusher run dust to key... good for applying to and grading driveways. Once applied and compacted it tends to stay in place rather then move under your tires as clean rock often does.

The driveway is 2 miles of desert blowsand over riverbed cleche...The best I can hope for is to take the tops off of the washboard.
Any idea how much two miles of 2 inch minus would cost???My guess is somewhat more than the diesel to run the tractor over it once every couple of weeks for the rest of my life.
