Greta75 -> Dry food (3/31/2016 4:27:37 AM)

I was just thinking.

I have 8 cats. I have them all since their ears are more tiny than their heads. I milk bottle fed them and help them pee and poo. Was their surrogate mom.

Most of them are between 18 to 20 yrs old now.

That's absolutely crazy. Still strong and healthy, and going strong. So with 8 as experiment, I don't think it's much of a coincidence. Just feed them the right food.

Their only diet, and the only thing I feed them is dry food and water. They don't get snacks. They don't get anything else. Only 2 things. Dry food and water. I am particular in the brand of dry food I feed, I have changed through the years, but I always read the ingredients to make sure it's not off parts and doesn't have harmful things like corn in it. I also believe in things like feeding fish to domestic cat is unnaturally bad for them, and many have allergies to it, so I refrain any food that has fish in it.

I have friends who's cats die at 7 yrs old. All my cats, from different places, different mothers, have the same health condition. Never gotten sick in their lives. I don't even get them vaccinated, because they are apartment only cats. I never allow them out. So no diseases to worry about.

And currently, I think they are living wwaayyy too long!

It makes me wonder why can't they invent a dry food like cat food, that has all the necessary nutrition and we can all live on that and not get sick and live a long life as well! Much better than paying through your nose for health care later. And dry food is sooo convenient to pop and eat anytime anywhere.

Yea but it's a choice and an option to good health.

Eating healthy usually sucks anyway.

Ew.

I'm sure they can create such a thing, but supply and demand. No one (not a significant group, at the very least) is going to demand it.

BondageersT -> RE: Dry food (3/31/2016 9:00:09 AM)

dear greta . IAMS IS THE BEST FOR CATS.

all the neighbourhood pussies invade my place for IAMS.

my own puss fights them off day and night..

It will sell in Asia as long as they guarantee perfect health and long life.

Asians will be suckers for these stuffs. They love health food.

Iams is not great though when I read the ingredients. I do not feed my cat that.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Dry food (3/31/2016 9:14:08 AM)

I am the god of all cats. You are an American man pretending he is a women from a far away land
Only one of my first lot of three cats live to over the age of 20 – 23 actually.

if all you feed a cat is dry food it will die before 10, more often than not.

TheRomanticDomme -> RE: Dry food (3/31/2016 9:14:54 AM)

It's not dry, but complete nutrition without food/cooking does exist https://www.soylent.com

Interesting, it's basically like soy milk with added vitamins.

There is controversy if soy protein is truly good or bad.

Some say soy is cancer causing.

Absolutely false. It's reading the ingredients and choosing dry food with the right ingredients.
And would you like to share with everybody how you conclude I am an American man? I am even happy to share our PM chat logs for people to see your insane logic.

BondageersT -> RE: Dry food (3/31/2016 9:30:52 AM)

ARE YOU DRUNK AND ON DRUGS . THIS IS BETTER THAN TV. HAHAHA

TheRomanticDomme -> RE: Dry food (3/31/2016 9:54:01 AM)

~FR~

I for one avoid soy products that aren't soy sauce or the occasional bit of tempeh. I also try and avoid anything that's a processed food, because in the end we have no idea how the processing affects us. But some people don't care and for others getting adequate nutrition and calories trumps the issue of potential long term dangers. I think it's a cool product anyways and a very interesting idea when it comes to feeding the world. Perhaps dry crunchy snacks will be next!

Feeding a cat or dog nothing but dry pet food is the health equivalent of a human eating nothing EVER except Cheerios. Are Cheerios bulked up with all the required vitamins and minerals and protein? Yes. Will a human be heathy and thrive on a diet of nothing else? Fuck no, obviously.

I feed mine food. Meat, including organ meat, bone meal, small amount of puréed vegetables, a few vitamin supplements. Real fucking food. Not processed crap, any more than I'd feed myself on processed crap.

It's not more expensive in the long run. Costs more at the grocery store and in cooking time, less in vet bills. And it makes them happy and feel good, who I think is the point of having them.

My mother has been breeding champion Persians for over 40 years and a 20 year life span for indoors is not uncommon. I think her oldest right now is also around 20. I think she has 12 right now and one that is due to give birth mid April IIRC. It's not 'just' a cat obsession though.. she sells her cats (the kittens are almost always sold before they are even born and .. she's got a waiting list to boot) for way more money than you would expect someone to pay for a cat.

Pet owners.. we are a strange sort of human. ::grins::

Nope. The Chef in me is screaming.. RED, RED, RED! Hey, if you want to eat Trail Mix for the rest of your life, have at it. I've got chicken for dinner and avocado's on the cheap right now. Chicken tacos spring to mind and the kids will LOVE me even more if I make 'em.

TheRomanticDomme -> RE: Dry food (3/31/2016 11:39:18 AM)

Now I want tacos....

DocStrange -> RE: Dry food (3/31/2016 3:38:42 PM)

I will say that what you are asking for may be logical. But logic does not make money. Great tasting food that is horribly unhealthy for us makes money. And the world is driven by money.

For those who remember the 70's there was a movie called Soylent Green with Charlton Heston. The main source of food for the country was more or less what you asking for. But you might be shocked by where they get the Soylent Green from :)
