Hey guys, I normally stick to YA, high fantasy and some horror for reading. My English professors have told me that I'm too narrow in what I read, so I'm wondering if there are any good erotica bdsm books I could read, besides the sucky 50 shades. I also like dark stuff, if there are any good books that blend dark erotica, suspense and horror, that would be good too.
I see another post about this too... opps lol

I can recommend 'Bad Behavior', a collection of short stories by Mary Gaitskill. Not all of them are BDSM related, but enough of them are - including 'Secretary', which was the original source for the film of the same name. I think the written story is better than the film. If you try her, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I see you are a male submissive, so I'll offer one of my own (disclaimer!) - it's now on Amazon kindle in the free program if you are part of that, or 99c if not.

It's a combination sensual bondage/sex with vampire angle (femdom in it also has a ..er... blood lust) and professional athletes (ehh..hockey, my own fetish). I wrote it more than a decade ago before the paranormal BDSM smut became a successful niche on amazon. I had to chuckle when one of the best selling fetish adult type books with a hockey angle had to do with a shapeshifting bear hockey player and a bbw. Gotta love that!

One book that stands out as a good literary work is Exit to Eden written by Anne Rice (Vampire novels) under the name of Anne Rampling. It is erotic and covers a lot of BDSM activity from the main male characters views. Worth a read.

Oh good lord. Anne Rice's writing skills are only marginally better than John Norman's. I've tried to read her books several times and they never get any less atrocious.

Young Adult? Yikes. I think selected longer anime is moving further?
There's a world of quality Science Fiction (Far less among SciFi!), written for most any reader, over the last 75 years. Actual Literature at times. John Norman or higher sexual content is rare. Silverberg is a good place to start.
I like the movies I run in my own head when reading the many useful BDSM books like Screw the Roses, Send me the Thorns, Easton and Hardy's The New Bottoming Book, etc. Few packaged kinks parallel mine well, the sadism often unsurvivable, the characters cardboard, and generally a lack of emotional connection to say nothing of intimacy. Too much Glory Hole kink? I'll take mine in a relationship, thanks.

My guess is that when your professors suggested you branch out in your choice of reading materials that BDSM erotic was not what they had in mind exactly.

I just wish I knew how to read ...

If memory serves, Ann Rice of "Interview With the Vampire" fame did either a book or a series of books (much like the vampire series) on Sleeping Beauty that was/were erotic(ish).

Since I can't read, at all, I don't read much erotica. If you'd like to know about some books that will change your life, try To Kill a Mockingbird, The Holy Bible (I prefer the Douay-Rheimes), Alcoholics Anonymous, The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, The Cat in the Hat, The Art of War, and any Agatha Christie.

There's a start.

Michael

Expanding your horizons is not the same as mixing everything you already love into a melting pot. That's combining, not expanding.

Did these professors of yours, knowing your preferences, give you any advice on a genre which they believed might interest you?

What is the aim and purpose of your literally education? Why are you taking English classes and what do you hope to gain from your attendance?

If you want to increase your vocabulary, read Russian classics. If you want to increase your overall knowledge base, read from the History section. If you read to keep your brain active, the mystery's and books which require thought such as philosophy might be of appeal.

Really, it's hard to say what will capture 'your' particular interests but hopefully you'll understand the 'homework', first, and what sections of literature are actually going to be expansive rather than compressive.

If more than one English professor has told you that you are too narrow in what you read; I'm thinking you are probably missing the point of their critique.

As for good BDSM erotica, I've never been interested in it. I was too busy living it, to read about it, so I can't be much help there. I did have the pleasure of sitting across the kitchen table from Dossie Easton and Janet Hardy. Dossie was so amazing a person, if her books are half as awesome as she is; I would recommend starting with them. Seriously.

I think Laura Antoniou is a good writer. I enjoyed her Market Place series and my slave loves her latest mystery murder set at BDSM convention. Unlike Rice & Norman, most everyone that reads Antoniou's material likes it, only their degree fandom varies.

I agree. I've read her Marketplace series a couple of times and it's head and shoulders above that Ann Rice 'Beauty' crap. I've heard a lot of people also like Jacqueline Carey's 'Kushiel's Legacy' trilogy, but I haven't read it myself.

I met Laura and she is a charming old school leather-heart. Her sincerity and passion for leather is reflected in her writings. Her last book is a Rainbow award winner and well worth the read. http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4599244

Hi,
How about 'The Story of Emma' by Sean O'Kane. Not sf but a good read. His Arena series have a sprt of sci-fi element or there's the Stephen Douglas 'Slaveworld' books.
