i think its less an Americanism in this instance and more of Thompson's perverted harassment of greta, his general malevolence, and his inability to understand "we" in a more abstract sense.

he is about the last person me, or many of my fellow americans would want to be lumped in with.

I believe in the constitution and have worn a green suit, carried a rifle and taken hostile fire in it's preservation. You and your ilk wish to establish a "christian caliphate" in my country. That is what I oppose.

From what I've read, Muslims do serve in the US Military, and the Navy specifically. Not only do they serve, but some have been/are decorated and honored. I've no idea what or if accommodations are made for their dietary requirements. I imagine it would be handled the same as however Kosher requirements are for Jewish soldiers.

I've heard our military is a 'kinder, gentler' military catering to a weaker and whinier bunch of soldiers - but I'm relatively certain that is not at all related to religious affiliations.

As with all sterotypes you can always find someone who fits it.
I assumed she meant her nations navy, why else would she say we and not you?
Twice I met Japanese tourists, they had cameras hanging off them, at least two each, does that mean that all Japanese tourists do that, of course not.
I have met lazy stupid blacks, does that mean all blacks are stupid and lazy? Of course not.
I have met white racists, does that mean all white southerners are racists?

Thompson, I've done halal food catering creating a whole damn halal kitchen outdoors from scratch, and I am familiar with the entire process of setting up a separate halal kitchen from the regular kitchen. There are even prayers involved with all the damn culteries and crockeries. Many companies requires this for their halal employees.

In Food courts in Singapore, there are even halal washing points for dishes, and non-halal washing points. The halal and non-halal culteries and crockeries cannot touch each other at all cost, or it's contaminated and cannot be used by Muslims. And if a Muslim finds out their plates or cultery ends up accidentally getting mix up with non-halal ones. Believe me, they will start being sick and puking out all their food. And get really angry, as if we fed them poison.

I assume that the military will accommodate as many religious requirements as possible without reducing combat efficiency...At least that has been my experience.

Mine as well.

ETA: So as not to imply I served in the military. My experience stems from growing up on military bases and living among military families.

Your link means shit, when I have real life experience with setting up a halal kitchen employing muslims who are experts in doing it. You know we have our sharia courts here, and these halal kitchens experts needs to get certification from our sharia courts to be officially recognized as the authority in making sure the halal kitchen is super halal.

Soldiers secretly being fed halal meat
The Ministry of Defence admits it does not label food as halal or kosher in its UK or overseas bases, with only soldiers who request these meals told what they are eating
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/defence/10895029/Soldiers-not-told-they-are-eating-halal-meat.html

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2012/03/15/halal_meat_creating_controversy_in_quebec.
MONTREAL—Following in the footsteps of France, some Quebecers are starting to worry that halal meat is increasingly being sold to consumers without their knowledge.
Framing the issue once again within the divisive debate over how far Quebecers must go to accommodate religious minorities, the Parti Québécois on Wednesday complained that people should know if the meat they’re buying has been slaughtered according to Islamic ritual.
Quebec is “losing control” over this issue, the PQ’s agriculture critic told reporters.
“Religious slaughter is legal, but it must remain the exception,” André Simard said. “However, it has become the rule.”
Simard, in a statement, added, “This type of slaughter collides head on with Quebecers’ values.”
The politician denounced the fact that the province’s food inspection agency had no information on the volume of halal and kosher production, the amount consumed, imported and exported.
Halal meat comes from animals that have been killed according to Islamic norms. The animal is bled by cutting its throat, accompanied by an Islamic prayer.
Abdelhamid Aouchiche, owner of the Montreal’s Boucherie Tassili, a halal butcher, was furious with the PQ for creating a “polemic” on halal meat.

“It’s not becoming the norm in Quebec,” said Aouchiche, also the founder of an association that certifies butchers and meat packers as halal — something the government doesn’t do.
“What (the PQ) is doing is simply creating discrimination,” he said. “They are following France, and what’s happening in France? Racism.”
Halal meat has become a major issue in the French presidential election. A recent public television documentary there raised questions when it claimed all meat in the region of Paris is halal. The extreme right party quickly took up the cause.
The controversy in Quebec has been mounting as media reports unearthed instances where halal meat has become the norm.
In one case, halal meat is served to all children at a daycare even though only a minority are Muslim in order to save from having to buy two types of meat. And it’s been reported that meat packers have sold unlabelled halal meat or poultry to the general public.
It can save producers money to simply make all their meat halal even if only some of it is labelled as such and marketed to Muslims.
Olymel, a major Canadian poultry and pork company based in Saint-Hyachinthe, has had its poultry plant in Saint-Damase, Que., certified halal. The chickens are desensitized with an electric shock and then “mechanically” bled, said spokesperson Richard Vigneault. Save for the religious prayer, the process is the same in the company’s other plants, he said.
Olymel sells the fresh chicken to distributors, some of which label the meat as halal, some of which do not, Vigneault explained.

My personal feeling is that religious requirements are the responsibility of the person practicing a religion, and no one else. I doubt that joining the Navy is a religious requirement, so if you need to eat halal, and the Navy can't accommodate, then take responsibility for your own religious obligations and don't join the Navy.

When I was in the military, I was still a practicing Catholic (for part of the time). The church had (and I believe still has) a set of dispensations (excuses) for not being able to live up to their rules.

I could, if I chose to, eat meat on Friday. If the situation necessitated it, I could miss Sunday Mass. My faith didn't ask the military to adjust to me, it told me to serve as they saw fit, without guilt or shame and then, "come back into the fold", when I discharged.

Perhaps you could direct me to the part that requires "sand washing" , seperate eating utensels and plates, or where crockery cannot touch etc?
I read the whole 37 page and found that it pretty much parallels u.s. proceedures for organic vs. standard fare or kosher vs. standard fare.

Lucylastic,

This, taken from your post: "“This type of slaughter collides head on with Quebecers’ values.” Is this what the main concern is? I know some, but ultimately little of how meat is prepared to be in keeping with religious requirements. Is the deception more a concern about how humanely or in this case, inhumanely the animals are being raised and slaughtered?

Have to admit that I phoned it in Winsome... I didnt have time to go into it with my usual research when I posted this morning.
I know that the "animal abuse" people were complaining years ago when I lived in the UK. About the method of killing. and being cruel and inferior to the "legal" slaughter. Inhumane, pandering to religious dietary needs.. etc, and "the vegans" also revile it.
I honestly dont know much about quebecers "values" as I dont live there.

The wiki on islamic dietary laws (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_dietary_laws) and its issues shows that its been around since the 70s as a legitimate "concern" And I am surprised at JUST how much halal is a big business.
Australia has had halal certification since 74
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halal_certification_in_Australia

personally Imm a terrible person, I love pork,( BACONNNNNNNN) I like meat, and probably will never be vegan.
But, I had more problems with a "friend" calling me a selfish bitch because I didnt eat fish on friday. Told me I was disrespecting her by eating a burger in front of her and she had to stick to fish.
people are weird.

I have witnessed the whole ritual cleansing. It involves holy sand! And special prayers. And you are crazy if you think halal utensils can be mixed with non-halal ones. It cost a bomb to employ this Muis personnel to come back and ritually cleanse all these things that require ritual cleansing, something like $3k each time this person comes and perform it. They are gonna keep it separate to save money!

All production lines, crockery, kitchen utensils and equipments, cooking place, chillers, freezers, cold rooms, etc must be ritually cleansed by Muis appointed personnel if they had been previously used for the preparation of pork and pork-related items.

In this document

In my country, where pork is staple, and pork lard is even present in vegetarian dishes and desserts. We chinese put pork in everything! Even even in sweet "vegetarian" desserts. Like even if it's labelled pumpkin paste, or yam paste, a dessert. The oil used in it, is pork lard. IF it says chicken noodles, the oil used in it is still pork lard. Can never trust a chinese kitchen to be pork free, as pork is the staple of all our flavours. Even fish soups got pork cracklings dump in it. Muslims never trust a chinese kitchen to keep things pork free, their utensils and crockeries, and they rightly should. Pork is our culture. If I have Muslim guests in my home, I have to give them disposable plates and culteries, because it's impossible for them to use my home utensils and crockeries without inviting that MUIS personnel to come ritually cleanse it. And MUIS is our sharia courts governing the Muslims in Singapore.
