kdsub -> This proves it... I'm a nice guy (4/16/2016 11:24:23 AM)

I am vindicated and can tell you that the reason my grammar is so bad is because of my desire to be likable.

The proof HERE

Butch

"Less agreeable people were more sensitive to grammos, while more conscientious and less open people were sensitive to typos."

Other science news: Extensive research in Alaska reveals that bears defecate in woods.

(Come to think of it, I've only just now realised that isn't always true. Polar bears don't shit in woods.)

WickedsDesire -> RE: This proves it... I'm a nice guy (4/17/2016 8:12:37 AM)

people often try and correct my grammetrons. This can go number of ways with me. My grammer is my grammer, as i always say to the voices in my head. I am not helped with having CFS as i can be prone to the odd bit of word jumble and word salad and poor cordination. Ah where was I.

1. I scud them into next week with a too by fore
2. I will certainly write them a paragraph utilising incorrectly;: to too two bare bear they their there they're and thwo (leave that in uncorrected my illness) trough/through throw threw in a good made up word/play on words
3. I will put them over my knees thrash them, ravish them alternate continuum and sell them on muffinbay for cake money.
4. I may also challenge them to battle of wits with science malarkey and ludo, and if they are a looker, naked twister.

I once dated someone who used the user name pedantic - wonder whatever happened to her - she dried humped my leg till she orgasmed as I was ill with my lurgy a long long time - see even ill I can please the women folk - but i was going to hose her off, or is it of. I have offten wondered. Actually she was a really nice women.

I would hardly call a sample size of just 83 people out of almost 7.4 billion people on this mudball anything conclusive or even tangible to present as evidence of vindication.

But meh... whatever floats your boat.

Lucylastic -> RE: This proves it... I'm a nice guy (4/17/2016 9:32:12 AM)

And just how many typos, grammar errors and shitty spellings were in that article?
were they there to prove a point?
no..just a a very poor attempt to excuse bad English.
None of us are perfect
yeah I agree with FD, lol and definitely with Wicked.
specially

Kind of cute, actually. Not saying I disagree that I would have liked to see a study with more participants but still interesting.

It's been crossing my mind for a while, at least on forums such as here and Fet, that we're seeing fewer people make comments regarding misspellings, typos, and grammos. (New term for me.) We've gotten so used to people who access sites by phone aps that we see less criticism in these areas when it comes to posts. Probably not as much for emails because the general attitude seems to be that more care should go into writing a personal email. What do you think?

littleclip -> RE: This proves it... I'm a nice guy (4/17/2016 11:44:52 AM)

yes i agree with the link im not the best typist i have hunt and peck for typists and my spelling is not the best but my intentions are genuine and real
and yes i do thing personal e mail should be better attended to even i have a spell check on my computer so its not that hard to do.

I know that I try to make allowances for english as a second/third language.
I have also used text speech, and chatroom bdsm lingo for nearly 20 years, but I also type in slang and other "bad" english often. so I gloss over most of it.
Also auto correct can be hilarious or annoying, but its more accepted now certainly.
Sometimes I write seriously, sometimes Im anything but, I miss apostrophes ALL the time, sometimes I type carefully( usually at my desk), other times my tablet keyboard gives me the heebie jeebies.

Mind you I had to restrain my self from a post the other day talking about intelligence and using the word pennacle for pincacle. (dammit I knew I wasnt going to be able to keep myself from mentioning it.) Im sooo far from perfect:)
(grammos is a new one for me too)
In all my emails I try to be spotless in my English....except with friends, I type to them as I would say it vocally.

It did remind me of Sarah Palin, with her word scrambles.
The article that is.:)

I just watched this on you tube, young guy reads tweets found on the internet and makes fun of the terms people used.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1B3rAnSqvk0
Hes not politically correct and has a wide collection of swear words to share, but I just spent 30 minutes laughing my ass off. He has some fun stuff on walmart people too.

This is one of the tweets he made fun of.[image]http://www.lucylasticslair.com/colllar/arthritis.jpg[/image]

I wonder if part of the attitude shift might stem from the ubiquity of auto-correct, making us realize that dumb errors don't always betoken dumb minds.

I must admit that my attitude has undergone a sea change since getting a tablet. Here, at least I can read it and edit. But on fet, all I can do is apologize for auto correct.

DocStrange -> RE: This proves it... I'm a nice guy (4/17/2016 3:02:47 PM)

My grammar is terrible. I am an engineer. I do really good with numbers, terrible with the written word LOL.

At work it is funny. All the new kids out of college tend to be the grammar snobs. That goes away quickly when they realize we deal with people across the globe. When you have 7 people starting up a new production line speaking 7 different languages, the snobbery quickly disappears as long as the point gets across. It can be rather humorous to see grown men/women acting out sign language and gestures for the simplest of things like a wrench :)

Why mime it when certain things like a wrench can be called up using Google Images?

Edited to change mystical to mystic.

The internet is truly a wonderful things. Internet with Google even better. In some countries though you may not have access to the internet either due to the company blocking it or the government. Hence sign language as my Mandarin is rather poor.

Greta75 -> RE: This proves it... I'm a nice guy (4/17/2016 8:20:26 PM)

My government blocks chick tracts.

I don't know why. I think that website is funny.

But I've never cared about people's English perfection as long as it's comprehensible.

Coming from a country where we butchered the English language to short cut everything. As we find proper English too long winded.
