Read Triumph of Politics by David Stockman for the budget disaster and huge military spending that was St. Wrinklemeat.

the thing is, the left and the right could not very likely even come up with criteria with which to judge, much less compare.

I believe we have demonstrated the accuracy of your statement.

Furthermore, as for our ME intelligence, what Carter did or didn't do had nothing whatever to do with what was an Oct. 1983 attack on our marines in Beirut

You don't understand that thanks to Carter the troops there had no way of knowing what Hamas was up to? Don't you unerstand that such knowlege was essential to preventing the disaster?

Don't you understand that reagans "spending binge" was the direct result of Carter, will the enthusiastic help of a Democratic dominated Congress gutting the military?

Funny, when oil prices go up under a Republican president it is the Presidents fault. When it happens under a Democrat he is the victim of circumstances.

First you revise history, now you 'create' it. Carter had been out of office for damn near 3 years. What was Reagan doing during those 3 years if as you say...it was so bad ?

The bombing was traced to Hezbollah, a militant and political group that originated in Lebanon in 1982. 'Originated' also after Carter had left office. Iranian and Syrian involvement was also suspected.

The Marines were criticized for having lax security at the barracks. The commander of the barracks, Col. Timothy J. Geraghty, said in congressional hearings investigating the attacks that the compound was hard to defend because it was on flat ground and vehicles drove by it daily to access the airport. Incompetence again.

As for defense spending, read my post and this: of 5/6/86 HERE In fact, Carter's advance technology improvements and build up, was far more important than anything Reagan did.

Most of the time, when oil prices as in all commodities, go up, it is simply the speculators. When oil prices go up, usually when something specific occurs as in an oil embargo, otherwise known as a restraint of supply, I write the specific reasons the speculators make the price go up, all of which occurs via their futures contracts.

Ford experienced inflation after taking over for tricky Dick, mostly as a result of the first oil embargo and I said as much.

Not even a nice try.

Once you have distroyed the contacts on the ground it takes far more than three years to rebuild it. Do you even understand even the most basic facits of the kind contacts it takes? After Carter declared that we were too good to use those contacts it would take more than three years to get them to consider working with us again, let alone doing it.
