When a feature of character that we should all be taking for granted, namely bestowing dignity and respect on all human beings irrespective of race, creed and color, gets applauded as heroic, then we know the world is in dire need of a major moral realignment.

I agree.

Till that happens, however, I'm grateful for any glimmers--however tardy, however modest--of light in a shadowed world.

You'll have to provide me citations on the multiple layers of vetting. I haven't seen it discussed anywhere.

Dunno if you trust the white house site, but here is a handy dandy little infographic that it explains what happens to refugees.
Before they come into the country.

Actually being accepted as a bonafide refugee is like winning the lottery.. I dont think most people have any concept of just how difficult the process is & how lengthy it is.. all thru that process they are stuck in a refugee camp, only at Step 9 do they set foot on US soil..

The end of Step 1- "Only applicants who are strong candidates for resettlement move forward (less than 1% of global refugee population).
9 Steps in total & they can be disqualified before they reach Step 9..

Refugees undergo more rigorous screening than anyone else we allow into the United States."

Buncha shit. They are living somewhere. They have been for all that time so it obviously was not life threatening.

And if they are refugees, why isn't the impetus to empower them and repatriate them to their homeland ? I thought refugee status was a temporary thing. Just ask Israel about the Ethiopian Jews. The bottom line was "No, you ain't staying".

And these refugee camps, how about some answers on that ?

Where are they ?

Are the refugees locked in like prisoners ?

Do they get free medical care ?

Who pays for all this ?

T^T

Gee, dude, how long has the war in Iraq been going? its not like one week there is a war and its over the next week & you go back home.. Is there even anything left to go back to? Have you never seen pictures of refugee camps? they are usually just tents.. Its squalor.. how would you like to live in a place like that for 2 or 3 years or longer while you go thru the refugee process?

Did you also forget that there was a poster here who went thru the start of the war in Syria, he was lucky & was relocated to a country like Norway or someplace like that (I havent seen him post for a while now)...

"There are now 60 million refugees worldwide and the average time spent as a refugee is 17 years."

If there isn't anything to go back to, how can they be vetted?
