SilverKytten -> CS Chat Fallback (5/23/2016 2:43:21 PM)

Hello, everyone!

Chat seems to be having connection problems more than often, recently, so I set up a Discord server for us to fall to when it's down.

I've tried to make it as inclusive as possible, in regards to what CS already has in place; colour-coded tags that match those on the site, along with a few tags for sexual preferences, personality, and roleplay status.

You can check it out, here.

So much I could say on this one.

You would have to define who cares and why...its purpose escapes me...and I always run; maths, and in the direction of the cookie tin

I still log in with java, on this site, for I am polite and believe all should behold my utter awe. IRC. or was it mirc, I forgot how to work a long time ago

Every time someone whines about the chatrooms on here I go and check by signing in to several chosen at random.
So far, unless the site itself is down, I have never had a problem with it.

Connection problems??
I would be looking at your ISP, whether you're running wireless/wifi for the problem.
Many people use wireless with their phones/tablets and that is the majority of the problem - not the site itself.

ETA: A fall-back system is not required or wanted.
Even more so when it is not controlled by the owners of the site.

Hey, if you think it's unnecessary, that's great. Don't use it.

I made this for chat regulars: You know, the people who are on the chat and get annoyed that it goes down so often?

I don't care if you feel it's not wanted or needed; I do. That's why I made it. Something nice, for the community.

And, just so you know, the owners don't control the chat. There are a handful of server OPs, but none of them have any relevance to anything other than the chat. Not to mention, even they have absolutely no control over any chatrooms, other than what they decide to create. Everything else is a free-for-all, dependant on whatever random person decides they want to make a room about. This is basically the same, just on a more reliable platform.

Since multiple people are indicating they are having problems, maybe it is a site issue. I don't think anyone on here can deny that the site hasn't had its issues. There are dozens of threads about how it no longer functions on the same level as it used too.

As far as a fall-back system not being wanted, I don't see how you can speak for all of the other users on this site regarding what they want or don't want. if I were a chatroom regular then yes, I would be interested in checking out an option that let me continue to chat with the same people, in a format that I was already familiar with.

I would have said thousands of other users, but who knows how many of the thousands of active users on here are socks. God knows there are enough visible every day. At least someone who comes across as legitimate is participating, in a positive way.

The fact that there are quite a few people that are complaining about the site not functioning would seem to indicate that there is an issue with the site.

However, if there are also people who are on the site pretty much 24/7 and don't have these problems when using the site at the same time, that would indicate very strongly that the issue isn't with the site itself but the means/method of reaching it.

Yes, there are functions that aren't working or not working properly.
If it is universal, then it's very likely the site itself.
But when there are people complaining that they can't get to the site functions, then that almost certainly isn't the site having problems but the way they are connecting to it or the individual setup on their machine.

I'm not even on the same continent as the server and I can count on one hand the number of times the site hasn't worked in the past year and none at all in 2016 (so far).
So if *I* am able to get to it and use it virtually 24/7 and don't have the problem, then it's not the site.
Those that are suffering connection problems need to look closer to home and stop blaming the problems on the site.

Much like when crumpets was bitterly complaining about not being able to use the site because he was getting verification issues at every stage of everything he did.
The problem is the way he is accessing the site with a certain browser and the convoluted way that particular browser worked.
Yes, there is/was a problem with the way they interacted with the cloud software.
But it only affected a certain few people using it in a very specific way.
For most people, it was working perfectly (given the known issues).

Ergo: to make the claim "...having connection problems more than often..." is false with respect to the site itself.
The fault is more than likely to be with a certain ISP or the local activity if using wireless/wifi.

SilverKytten -> RE: CS Chat Fallback (6/2/2016 11:04:49 AM)

Some issues are because of personal internet connections:
However, when 30-50 people go offline for a length of time, at the exact same time, that's fair evidence that it's a site issue.
When the entire chat server goes down, and absolutely nobody can reach it, three times in a week, that's fair evidence that it's a site issue.

I'm logged into the chat 24/7, have an A.MA.ZING. internet connection, and still am disconnected fairly often; sometimes for hours or days at a time, while still being able to access the site itself, other IRC channels, and any other internet service I feel like.

The site is poorly run, for whatever reason, and the chat seems to have been deteriorating rapidly, over the last 4-5 months.

Just a quick 'bump'

The server community is growing fairly quickly (At least, quicker than I was expecting), though is less active than it could be. Most users appear to be from FetLife, so far.

The link has 'despawned,' so to speak - Probably because of the recent change in how links are handled.

Here's a new one.
