I've read his book (all his books actually).

I'm not a fan because of his hyperbole...I'm a fan because....he does what he says he'll do.

NYC spent 13 million (and 5 years) NOT getting the ice rink done.
Once given the contract...he got it done in 4 months...and for less than 2 million.

He's building a Post Office in DC. He got the contract WHILE he was debasing D.C.....even AS he was debasing D.C. (i.e....Obama).

(Sumpin tells me...he got the gig because....he had a proven record).

He's already under budget...and 3 months ahead of schedule.

(I'm having a hard time finding a problem with the guy).

You're a businessman Lookie, would you do business with someone deeply in debt with a history of multiple bankruptcies? Would you lend money to someone who didn't pay you back last time?

Yes...I am..and...there's a very old saying....one I learned when I was 11 or so (I'm slightly older than 11 at this juncture):

"If you owe the bank 5 grand....and you can't pay.....you're in trouble. If you owe the bank 500 grand and you can't pay....they're in trouble".

(Now I'll give you some real world examples :) )

(And the answer to your question is...."depends on his assets").

When I was 21....a while ago...been in business for 3 years or so at the time....profitable from day one but....only "just so"....I went to the bank to borrow money for a truck. I'd been profitable (6 grand or so) for 3 years....increasingly so....6 grand in the latest year....still living at my Dad's....paying no rent (thanks Dad).

I'd been renting a truck for 2 years (for a specific function). 2 hours to go get the truck....two hours to bring it back....2 men to get it and deliver it back each day.....2 more hours to clean it up so I didn't get charged for same.

The truck was 6 grand.

I'd own it.

It would be mine......no clean up (some...normal)...I'd drive it out every morning...already...ready for the day. No going to get it.

12 - 16 man hours EVERY day NOT being spent covering someone ELSE"s margin. (12 - 16 man hours also....NOT producing a paying product...but paying still).

Multiply that by an average of 3 days a week....40 weeks a year....50K a year....NOT being spent on someone else's margin.

Granted...I'd have maintenance and related charges.

Bank said ...."Jon...you made 6 grand last year...the TRUCK is 6 grand!!!!....you can't AFFORD this truck and I'd be an irresponsible bank manager if I loaned you the money".

I said..."I want to pay it off over 3 years....it's a GUARANTEED money saver".

Bank said..."at 6 grand profit (forget the 50K I was wasting "borrowing" the same vehicle), you can't afford this vehicle and....if you buy it...you're being fiscally irresponsible".


So....I left that bank....went to another....borrowed the 6 grand....had the note paid off in 5 months....went back and showed the (old bank manager) the note and the payoff....and she looked me straight in the face and told me..."you were INCREDIBLY irresponsible".

She was out of a job 24 months later because she was a complete moron.

So....(you say) Trump owes 250 million. (I'd bet it's closer to a billion or more).

He's worth at the low end....2 - 4 billion...let's call it 2.

That's 1/8th his assets.

MOST homeowners owe (we're just gonna pick numbers here) 175 grand on a 200 grand home.....that's a 38% equity basis....Trump....on the low end has 88% equity.

I'd say he's doing fine and....as to bankers (or anyone else who hasn't ever run a business).....they don't know shit and...he's doing just fine.

(And by the way....every one of those lenders who claim they weren't paid "in full"....all had myriad backstops....trust me...they were well covered).

It's a WHOOOOLE different game at that level....truly....everyone who had skin in the game....was well protected.

(Trust me).

By the way...at the time I sat there waiting for my meeting....the same bank manager (1981) was meeting with a Real Estate developer who was upside down by a half million. 1981 was a HORRIBLE time for real estate.

I overheard every word.....she gave him ANOTHER 250K to get him out of trouble ("If you owe the bank 5 grand....and you can't pay.....you're in trouble. If you owe the bank 500K and you can't pay....they're in trouble".)....then I was up....and....for 6 grand....turned down.

I asked her (having heard every word of the previous) "why did you give him ANOTHER 250 grand when he's upside down....and you won't give me 6 grand to grow???"

She said (and I'm paraphrasing...it's been a few years)..."Jon.....he'll know when the shit hits the fan when the sound it makes hits the fan blades and makes a horrific noise....whirring towards him.....YOU'LL know it when it splats on your neck and wonder...."what's that smell????".

And THAT , ladies and germs....is when I understood everything there is to understand about banking.

Come on, DC. You're telling me that it isn't refreshing to see a politician (and, yes, Trump is a politician) that will likely follow through? At the very least, you have to give a pol that does that some props, even if you don't agree with his positions.

The benefit of Trump: He'll do what he says.
The downside of that: He says some batshit stuff.

Because, leftist media has been showing this clip of Trump talking about his second wife Maple, that sometimes he doesn't want her to work, because he gets pissed off when he comes home and where is the dinner?

This may make him sound chauvinist.

But throughout his actions, the women he lasted longest with are career minded women.

So he does say alot of incendiary things, but going by gender, I always thought you know where a man's true position is by his actions and not by his words.

I see no reason to give props to anyone who says "batshit stuff" or--God help us--tries to do it.

And I find the fact that an electorate is panting to support "batshit stuff" incredibly scary.

We've all seen before where that leads.

Status: offline 		To judge Trump by his actions means that first, you have to give him the power to implement those and other actions. That has been tried a number of times and usually ends up with the four horseman coming over the hill and a whole lot of misery left in their wake. Surely it is better to listen to the words and put a meaning to them before doing anything so stupid as looking for the detonator to an explosion and voting him into the most powerful job in the country ?

Status: offline 		My family's motto was "may we be judged by our actions" and that goes back to the Norman Conquest I believe...............and I have to tell you that over the centuries, we were the biggest thieves, rogues, liars, turncoats, pirates, mercenaries and general bad bastards that were ever hung or unhung, so there is no way in the world I would leave any of them in charge of the local sewage works, let alone a country like the U.S...............No disrespect meant to the U.S. , OR the sewage works

Status: offline 		The so-called system that so many wish to praise Trump for using to his advantage is a system designed by Trump and his ilk. The people didn't go to govt. ask to to provide for such business/debt and legal regime that allows such financial flexibilities. These laws were purchased using our plutocracy and are used by the very same people.

The fact is if he had invested his inheritance into the S & P 500, he would be richer today and without any of the bankruptcies many of which were other smaller companies that were liquidated for less than loans outstanding. Once such property or business bankruptcy and the loan loses caused, did contribute heavily to force Fleet to merge with Boston bank. So Trump has been through many more bankruptcies than just his casinos. Trump U will likely be yet another.

Furthermore, many small contractors were screwed throughout Trump's whole business career which has been driven by greed and ego whereas other billionaire politicians to cite just two examples, Bloomberg and Perot were successful one a 12 year mayer of NY and never went bankrupt. Trump's egocentric personality, avarice and greed for me, disqualifies him for holding any govt. office.

Perhaps you are not familiar with the Trump 'University' debacle and the questionable buiness practices employed there.

It turns out the so-called university is little more than an elaborate high pressure Real Estate scam targetting those with little or no business experience, expertise or resources - retirees, people on welfare or low incomes and the like. You can read all about it here:

It's worth noting that Trump fought desperately to prevent the details of his business practices becoming public knowledge. When it became obvious that his legal manouvres to prevent publication would fail, he launched an unprecedented vicious public character assassination of the presiding judge including racially vilifying him for his alleged Mexican origins. Once you have read about Trump's business practices you don't need to be a Nobel Prize winner to figure out why Trump fought their publication so aggressively.

So if you are the type of person who likes billionaire predators who prey on the weak and unfortunate, who scams pensioners and uses high pressure sales techniques to fleece those with little or no financial sophistication, then Trump is certainly your type of guy. However if you have anything approaching normal human ethics, you will be repulsed by the vicious and avaricious con man Trump is revealed to be by his own practices and behaviour.
