As a guy (sue me) I read chics profiles....seeking "The One"....and I find (chics) who can't spell....have NO concept of grammar....and I just GRIT my teeth and think...."could I live with this chic?" No. Never. Not EVER.

Carol (my wife) happens to be great at proof reading. But honestly, her grammer and spelling skills are not really all that useful nor are they what impress me about her. I find us choosing to use speech rather than written communication in about 99% of all situations. In that remaining 1%, if she spelled "butter" incorrectly on the shopping list and it became "batter", I like to believe my super-genius IQ and overarching common sense will still snatch butter from the jaws of batter.

FR

Strangers' editorial issues generally don't perturb me.

Three reasons:

-- I gave at the office.

-- A terrible typist myself, I don't assume that mistakes necessarily indicate idiocy.

-- Chemo brain has taught me how fragile one's grip on fine points can be.

Spellcheckers are crap (and occasionally useless), but I'll take those over grammar checkers any day. [:'(]

I would hope that the OP and DesFIP were complaining about people who don't put even the most minimal effort into writing a profile that they hope might get them laid, rather than having a go at dyslexics? Complaints about wilful ignorance and laziness seem a bit more acceptable than attacking people who have issues with pattern recognition, after all.

I believe you misread me. I'm one of those who contradicted the op.

My bad. I beg your pardon.

debydeb -> RE: People who can't spell.... (6/19/2016 9:38:01 AM)

some people will take the shortcut in writing things...so it is not bad grammar its lazyness ..or else they just cant spell

As long as I can understand a text, I don't care about spelling and grammar errors, and I don't judge people on them. The ladies who write errors can very well have brilliant human and BDSM qualities.

Moreover, don't forget that for many participants (like me), English is not their mother tongue.

Excellent point....look for other beneficial qualities.

I like that.

I've always felt that one of the primary fundamentals of this lifestyle is to be 'non-judgmental'.

BDSM lifestyle members know first hand that judgments placed upon them
by NON BDSM people
can result in harmful experiences regarding our lifestyle.

To be accepting of alternate lifestyles
is one of the first steps
in developing your knowledge of BDSM.

It's too bad that you've not learned this.

Good luck to you.

I've always lacked that quality.

I discovered years ago...if you can fake sincerity....you pretty much have it nailed.

There's no way to announce that an inability to spell means a person is of low intelligence.

I've always considered an inability to spell being an indication of an inability to handle detail.

Then you lack the concept to understand that not everyone's brain works the same as yours. My son, for instance, is highly intelligent, and can find the finest detail in most things. He now holds qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, something to do with building computers, and is a specialist Welder, however, he has learning difficulties that mean that originally mainstream school wanted to write him off as someone that would never cope with ordinary school.

I myself suffer with ME/CFS, and chronic migraines. Together they create something called brain fog. I'm also an insomniac, and I've had all sorts of tests done. These included general IQ/cognitive tests to see how my brain was coping with everything. It's found that I'm exceptionally highly functioning because I've suffered with pain for most of my life, I fight hard to just get on with it, and I've generally been very fit. Even in my most sleep deprived states, and with a chronic migraine I can still score out at 148-152. However, imagine that your brain is like a huge library, you know where all your information is stored because you put it all there, well for me, sometimes it's like going in there and some git has rearranged all my stored information. It's not in its correct place anymore. Even worse, sometimes when I go to retrieve information someone switches the lights out on me too. So not only is it all in the wrong place, but I wouldn't be able to find it anyway. It may last minutes, it may last hours, but I'm sure you've had a moment where you couldn't remember someone's name, couldn't remember the title to a song/film? Now image it's words. I've been a breeder of horses, shown at top level, been a Judge myself, and a free lance artist. My whole life has been about attention to detail.

You think that spelling is just down to a lack of detail? How wonderfully dismissive.

I wanted to use 6 but...felt it was excessive.

Actually, methinks the so-called "ellipsis" is the mark (or set of marks) that indicate a missing set of letters or words; so, technically, there is only a single ellipsis (and not five ellipses).

Now, whether or not that single ellipsis contains five "periods" or five "full stops" (aka "dots"), is a matter of Pondian English style, as is where or whether to place a space or spaces before or after the ellipsis; but I digress...

PS: There are always huge discussions in the English Usenet newsgroups that I frequent daily, regarding the space BEFORE the ellipsis

  • what thedeityspeaks was referring to was the amount of instances that cervix used an ellipsis.

a proper ellipsis has three period marks.

however there's a not uncommon tendency to use them other than for an omission of words, that is, as an alternative to commas of a sort, or the constant having to create new full/proper sentences.

Don't you consider dyslexia? or do you believe dyslexics can't handle detail?
Dyslexics spend far too much time trying to sell their soul to Santa.

    FR -

It has always seemed to me that a person's shortcomings in spelling and/or grammar is more a sign of bad communication skills rather than native intelligence.
I consider intelligence to be a combination of what you know along with the ability to communicate that knowledge to other people.

I have known quite a few people who are very bright and well-read, but also do not possess the skills to share their accumulated knowledge with other people.
Unfortunately, this group includes many of the classroom teachers in my life, particularly in math and sciences.

Much more appealing to me than the proper use of grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc., is the creative use of language. Even a person who seems incapable of using literary tools correctly will win me over if he/she can compensate with a unique approach to writing. L-F Celine was a master of ellipses, Proust of commas, Gertrude Stein of grammar. I’d much rather read the diaries of an illiterate schizo than of a politician.
