"Some Runners Angered After Biological Male Earns All-State Honors in Girl's Track"

quote:

Some people in Alaska aren't too happy after a person born biologically male but identifies as female competed against girls and won all-state honors in track and field. Nattaphon Wangyot, from Haines High School, is a senior and qualified to the state championship in the 100-meter dash. Wangyot was born male.

Some of Wangyot's competitors were not happy to have lost to a biological male, and expressed their frustration....

The mother of a runner who lost to Wangyot was pretty ticked that her daughter had to run against a biological male. Jennifer Van Pelt, whose daughter Allison ran in the 200m race, posted a status on Facebook outlining her anger, saying that she did not think it was okay:

What would you say if you found out that a male was running in a female event? If a male, who naturally because of body physics, runs faster and was allowed to compete with girls who are not built with those physics. What would you say if this male kept your child from placing on the podium because she isn't built with the structure of a boy? I just found out they let a transgender compete in state this weekend. I just found out this same transgender competed in one of Allis events. And because of their natural physics to run faster than the gender they identify with kept Alli off the podium because she missed it by one spot. How is that even fair?! It's not! This is America today. We can't offend people. Ridiculous.

This is an awkward situation for the school for sure. Men are faster runners than women, and DNA can't be changed. Some 30 states have set policies regarding transgender athletes' participation in sports, but it's hard to find a solution that can be both fair to all athletes and also make everyone happy.

Gee! Some people are not gracious losers, hey?

To my knowledge, T girls have been competing against women in various sports at all levels for several decades now. If T girls still possessed any innate physiological advantage, one would think that would have translated into one of those T girls becoming a world champion or #1 by now. As far as I know, this hasn't happened. So the claims of innate advantage do not appear to be supported by the facts.
